But also, do try to find time to read our early posts if you can--they will explain where we are coming from and why this thread was started and why we feel it is inappropriate for anyone to try to stifle creativity by criticizing the off-beat plans some of the people here follow..All of us here understand that we need to be free to try out different ideas even if they dont abide by strict rules. (Q, how would they feel about plucking your eyebrows ?) ![]() As for re-inventing the wheel, dont bash the idea---you might come up with something that would be a great boon to all of mankind. ![]() My water is all gone now and I have had an additonal 20 ounces of coffee and decaf tea (Constant Comment). Feeling very good about this day of AWF and have no hunger what so ever. if I do feel pangs later, I will try another cup of this tea. I have a confession: on previous UPdays, I have allowed myself to "suck" on a little square of Lindt Dark Chocolate called Extreme Orange (with little dried bits of orange in it.) It is so yummy and you have no idea of my talent for making one of them last and last and last! But since last Friday when I accidently began my AWF, I have not even looked at a piece of Extreme Orange nor been tempted by thoughts of it. (Why dont we have a Smug Smiley Emoticon here?) |

Something Dr. J doesn't mention with regard to shakes is their value in keeping your protein up. On restricted calories, I fear not having enough protein (ProteinPower is my low carb woe) because it helps to spare muscle, and the shakes give me more than I could possible get with 400 cal. of food. I have two low carb ones that I use from Netrition--Worldwide Nutrition (already mixed) are 170 cal. a can with 35 g. of protein--and they're delicious. Syntrax Nectar (powder to be mixed) has just 90 cal. with 23g of protein. The Sytrax Nectar comes in all sorts of flavors, but I'm using a citrus blend which is nice since I don't eat fruit.
On a typical DD, I'll have a 100 cal. breakfast of egg white/cheese on bran cracker and use shakes for the rest of the day, usually getting at least 65g of protein for those 400 cal. |

i wanted to add to something that was mentioned earlier about people not ostrasizing (sp)others for their WOE. on another board that shall remain nameless, when I had posted how my potassium level went down while being on Fast 5, i was ripped to shreds by some girl. now i know it was my own fault because i wasn't consuming enough fruits and vegetables and i have improved on that but her reaction just floored me and i don't discuss my WOE anymore on that board for the most part. she had gone into the whole, eat 5-6 small meals a day, blah, blah, blah and well after finding Fast 5 i don't think that eating many meals throughout the day is for me. i like Fast-5, it's convenient and it works for me. so i'm glad that this thread is so supportive. thanks to all of you for being so positive and thanks to Maizen for starting this!

Maizen - we must've been posting at the same time, LOL.
i've been busy with work all week and have been sick since yesterday, sinus/cold/sore throat. water intake hasn't been the greatest so that's still a battle for me, however when i get sick like this my water intake does increase a bit so i'm working on it. am thinking of doing a water fast actually until tomorrow 5pm. have to have a CT scan done tomorrow and need to be NPO so a perfect time to attempt it! i'll make sure i don't stay away too long so i don't get behind, LOL. |

WHOA so much going on here on this board. But I can't keep up. I'm reading all the posts and want to reply, but , well, I'm dense about this quote thing. It's so great and thanks to all who are really adding their reflections and WOE that works for them. We definitely need to keep this a safe place with no criticisms!
I had a so-so UD, was hungry a few times and ate, but was satisfied very quickly. Still I managed to down a handful of potato chips (this, more than anything is my weakest link to the carb world) . I'm planning on DD tomorrow, and will try to WF. I really think that's the best. I am also a firm believer in the SIRT1 effect - and thanks Shunsweets for the info on the 30 hr window. Makes total sense. The one glitch in my plan for WF tomorrow is that lunch at work is being catered by one of my favorite places (Maizebabe, it's zingermans) . Still, the idea of the WF is somehow more appealing to me than eating amazing food. ![]() |

Wuzzy dear Tweaker,
I am so sorry you have been sick and hope you will soon feel better (they say that increased intake of liquids helps) And also greatly hoping the CT scan goes well so you can get back to us soon and in fine shape!Yes, although the water fast had been mentioned earlier, it was Caramel's several mentions of it that got me thinking about it and then actually doing it, and I love it, and cant thank her and the other WF'ers enough! . But since I cant do my morning coffee without half-and-half, I just claim to do a "AWF" ("Almost Water Fast") ![]() It works out great for me and to my astonishment, I just have no hunger or fatigue. And this ***WOE*** must cause endorphins to run amok in my body because I am in a great mood and have lots of energy. and others here have written wonderul posts about the spiritual benefits of water fasts, too.I am so sorry someone ran rough-shod over you at another thread. You dont deserve that--no one does! We dont allow such disrespect here and in fact that is the reason that a week ago I started hearing from people asking me to start a new thread where we could re-capture the relaxed and comfortable feelings we had started out with at the first of the month on the other thread,It is difficult enough to deal with weight and self-image issues without having to face lectures, corrections. and disapproval because you arent following someone elses's idea of what you "ought" to be doing. And no one should have to be subjected to passive-aggressive attacks by so-called experts as we sometimes have seen at other threads.. I have actually received PM's from people telling me they are very shy by nature and were glad to see a thread where they finally felt comfortable about asking questions or admitting to an off-beat plan or are floundering around still trying to find the right pathway. This is a great group and I hope we will be together until we are at goal and then can refer to our smaller selves as "Tweaklets" instead of Tweakers. ![]() PS: see asterisks above ***WOE*** It just occurred to me that if someone is on a liquid fast, it could NOT be rightfully called a "WOE...but I have to admit that describing what we do as a "WOD" looks a bit peculiar. (this Icon represents absolute total panic on my part, not hilarity)ZINGERMANS? Oh, wallaby you poor darling! A handful of chips is one thing but ZINGERMANS? (What a difficult challenge....visions of beloved corned beef and pastrami sandwiches are now dancing in my head... ) To be honest, I 'd have a very hard time sticking to any kind of DD if I were faced with a varied collection of Zingermans drooly deli-treats. Is this going to be a "generic order" of what they think everyone will like? Maybe some salads will be amongst all that Other Stuff (where is a scarey fire-breathing Monster Icon when we need it?) Look, go and do the best you can and try to make the wisest choices you can. And then if you fall off the wagon, dont beat yourself up over it or suffer any guilt, just pick up a good sensible DD the next day--and stay away form the scale--and you will be fine in just a day or two. ![]() And if a WF doesnt work out for you for awhile, not to worry. Wonderful as it is, it is not The Gold Standard for us and dont forget, the glory of these intermittent eating plans is that THERE IS ALWAYS A DO-OVER ! And that new start is never more than a few hours away! ![]() ![]() ![]() PS--my SIL's aunt Mollie was famous in AA for her cheesecakes and her rugalach and she made all that kind of thing for Zingermans. Sadly, she is no longer with us, but I know she is in heaven--anyone who can cook like that deserves to be sitting at the right hand side of The Throne! HI ladies!
Kind - good to see you over here. I bet you'll like this woe. I follow it and on my UD's I eat the Eat to Live way. You can eat whatever (within reason) on your UD. Eat when hungry, stop when satisfied. Your DD's will be very low cal, but it's only one day and after the first one or two you will find you aren't hungry. Shunsweets - congrats on the meditations. Thanks for the info about 30 hours for SIRT to kick in. That makes sense. I usually have coffee only the morning of my UD and I don't eat until noon, so that might be why I am not ravenous. I make sure I eat though! Wuzzy - that s.ucks about the other thread. You won't find that here. We are super supportive! Sorry you are feeling sick. Wallaby - I find it hard to have DD"s during work lunches. I am a teacher and every Friday is treats day in the staffroom. So I indulge every other Friday when it's an UD. But tomorrow is a PA Day and we are analysing data to try and help our at-risk students. This can be very boring, and they cater in a great lunch to make it a little more enjoyable. I could sit and sip water or tea, but since I am in maintenance I will enjoy and get back to JUDDD when I can. Good luck tomorrow! Maizenbluebabe - I am so curious - what is rugalach? Never heard of it. I have a staff lunch tomorrow, and back-to-back kiddie birthday parties Sat and Sun. So I am going to play it by ear. If I can follow alternate days I will. If not I will keep my calories low and re-start on Monday. I am in maintenance now - woo hoo, so I'm not too worried. Even if I gain a couple of pounds over the next few days I now know how to lose em quickly! |

Hahaha! I post posted a new topic when really I should have looked here. I do all three of these, except I do all my eating within a 1-2 hour window around 7-8pm on the days I'm not fasting. And I do an Up Day, then 2 Down Days, then another Up Day, before fasting for three days.

![]() EmandM--rugalach is almost impossible to describe but I will try. it is a Jewish cookie/ pastry that is crispy and melty-in-you-mouth and is filled with delicious things like walnuts, poppy seed, raisins, apricot or other preserves etc. Aunt Mollie made her pastry for Kosher so didnt use cream cheese but for a non-Kosher version, the cream cheese pastry is tooo yummy. She filled hers with raspberry preserves. So you roll the dough out and spread the filling on it and then roll it up. The pasty is cut into little strips and you get something akin to those little cinnamon crsps our moms used to make out of left-over pie crust but even better, And Aunt Mollie could put this stuff together in the twinkling of an eye--it was amazing. Gosh, I am drooling. wallaby, do NOT let anyone force-feed you any rugalach tomorrow ![]() Last edited by maizenbluebabe; 01-29-2009 at 06:26 PM.. |

![]() ![]() ummm, not to be at all critical, but I went to the other thread you mention starting and read it and frankly, I think it might be difficult to follow--if not impossible--at least for many of us as you describe it. And also might not be the most healthy way of eating/fasting, at least for some of us although you may have unusual health needs which this diet might address?. Just wondering if you've been on this plan for very long and what have been your results. Where did it come from? It would help us to understand and feel re-assured that it is safe if you have some kind of data to show that it will work and not be a health problem?. we welcome many varied kinds of plans here but I am sure you can understand why we might react a bit hesitantly until we know further details. Why dont we wait to see what kind of response you get at your own thread and get a few more insights into this plan from others out there in LCF land before we come to the conclusion that this is workable for us or that any of us are brave enough to try it. PS: hey, gang--please let me know what you think of the following? Do you think you could follow it? J Right below this paragraph is a copy of WeeIrishFolk's detailed description of her plan from the thread she started, I thought it wise to go and check it out before any of us consider it seriously. it is very complicated I am sure I could not follow it but want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to see it in all its "creative" glory.. I dont want to be discourageing, WeeIrishFolk, but all in all, your "program" really looks way too complex for most of us as we are all doing much more simple and straight-forward and easy to follow plans.. " Warrior Diet/Low Carb/Regular Water Fasts I prefer ketogenic diets, I loooove the Warrior Diet and while I don't love water fasting per se, it is really good for my body. I like water fasting but I can't work out while I do it, so I plan to water fast for three days, then eat for four days, having the first day be a higher calorie day, low carb of course, with the meal in the evening, then two low calorie days, again low carb and eaten in the evening, then have my fourth day like the first but with the meal being mostly fat. Then fasting again and repeating the cycle. Once I reach my goal weight I plan on still fasting three days a week, and then just eating in the evenings on the days I do eat, but making sure my calories are adequate enough to maintain my weight and eating more healthy carbs (fruits and veggies), adding in snacks if necessary. Just wanted to put that out there in case anyone else is doing this or is interested." Last edited by maizenbluebabe; 01-29-2009 at 08:36 PM.. |

I'm curious how this plan was developed. I know about water fasting but don't know anything about The Warrior Diet. I assume its Paleo/ketogenic? It sounds VERY ambitious and strikes me as extreme. I'm sort of a wuss when it comes to eating plans though. I PERSONALLY believe in not eating below a certain individually determined caloric AVERAGE. Which Is why I love JUDD. I'm a wuss when it comes to eating plans though> I get nervous when people only eat one meal on their UD - even if its all of their calories, so I'm probably not the best judge. I guess I'd wonder how many calories exactly you are eating... and I don't know about doing three day a week water fasts either. I also wonder what the motivation is. She mentions getting to goal weight... tif the reason for this diet is weightloss.. well, I think there are better ways to lose weight. less extreme ways that I PERSONALLY believe are healthier. That is just MO though. |

Hey EVERYONE... THIS BOARD IS ROCKING!!! I cannot possibly address all of the posts as I did the other day.... It took me a while to keep looking back and responding lol...
To the newcomes...KIND AND IRISH! ![]() Congrats to EVERYONE WHO HAS LOST A FEW POUNDS OR INCHES!!! ![]() To those who helped clarify the glucose tolerance test, much thanks! They DID NOT MENTION doing 3 days of carb ups at all...heavy sigh! Need to rethink next week definitely! Diabetes runs in my family and I was at the HIGH END of normal on my last test but I was low carbing then...so I wonder how that affects the results... In regards to fasting, the boards I used to belong to contained many, many people who did IF and had various windows that they adhered to...most did 5-5! I personally did 5-5 but did a one hour window 2 days a week... It really helped me to clear my head and stop obsessing about food! I learned to put food into perspective and learned that even though I appeared to be hungry, I could never eat what I intended to eat. I know someone over there who has lost 100 pounds on IF. She's a cardiac patient and reversed her heart disease doing that program! Another thing about fasting for me is that I don't have to cook so many meals. What I generally do is cook a large meal, enough for leftovers since it is just me and my daughter. On my UD I usually eat the leftover from my dd's previous meal the day before and cook a new meal for her... Today I made vegetable soup and we had sandwiches with it...or she did...I had rollups... Then I had an apple for my dessert! Later on in the day I had a bagle (off plan and a whiskey sour lol ). I must say it was just one of those days when it was either a drink or the bridge lol !!!I chose the drink! I don't drink often and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course today was my UD so that is okay by me! Had 3 great meals, including the bagels and whiskey sour! One thing that is important on the fasting days is to get some potassium in to keep your minerals balanced...someone else suggested sea salt...ACV definitely helped me with that on my last fast and I will try it again tomorrow! I think it is okay for those interested to start out slow with the fasting process so that they can become acclimated to it...so whether is is a fruit fast or a juice fast either would work... I forget that everyone is doing different plans, which is fine with me because I"VE been on all of the lol... ![]() Looking forward to my DD tomorrow... My dd has been out of school for 4 days this week! She's having a great time but I'm trying to make her study a little...not having much success, however! Tomorrow she promised to practice her math, however!![]() TJ ![]()

Hey Ya'll
Can I come in? I've been following this thread (and the dead thread) with a lot of interest. Reading everything I can find on the net, QOD, JUDDD, IF, and visiting some groups with this WOE. This is by far the most active and if I may say so, best support I've seen. Plus some groups turn me off with their extreme eating, you know, all I've had today is one tiny bite of (fill in the blank). Some of you may remember me from Crack the Code (hi Quandria!) which turned out to be not for me and after that I did a couple of months of WW. All that did for me was prove once and for all that I cannot eat LF and low cal. Gained 10# and have spent the last several months struggling to get that off and get back to LC. I'm back to eating right but I can never climb the carb ladder and still lose. This WOE seems to make sense to me especially since my body adapts very quickly to lower calories. So I've been JUDDDing the last week, no real scale success but then I've been experimenting with what I can eat and when. I have lost 2 inches from both waist and hips in the last week. Anyway, I feel excited about doing something positive, I was really getting into a funk! Susan

![]() Yep, yesterday or the day before--(about 200 posts back or so ) some of us were commenting on the benefits of drinking water, water, water. And also, how few of us really manage to get sufficient water. I have started filling a 64 Oz plastic juice bottle with water when I first go into the kitchen in the morning and try to keep working on it as the day goes on so that I dont have to stuff myself with 2 glasses of water mid-day in order to get it all in before bed time. And for me the matter of the LC choices is no choice at all anymore since my life is so much happier and healthier without them. ![]() |

Good morning everyone,
Well yesterday was my second wf this week, and no I don't usually do two but since I switched days this week I was going to end up with more calories than last week so I did the extra wf but will return to my once a week wf next week. Having said all that I am down 3.2 pounds this week ![]() my weigh in was this morning and it may be all water weight but I'll take it, if those pounds want to sneak back on this week, well pooey to them cause I only weigh once a week::Hope everyone has a great and productive day today is an UD for me I'' post again later but will be lurking.
