I think my body would feel a LOT better if I was not trying to eat so much food each and every dang day. I'm hanging out here, listening and lurking (mostly), to get a feel for what the rhythm is. Read a little bit on Johnson's site too.
With my inflammation issues, having a quiet day sure sounds good. My WPP is a good morning starter and I bet I can break it into two or more shakes if I am willing to hassle with mixing it up several times a day. We'll see. Meanwhile, chiro is coming to me today at 2pm, with laser gadget to see if he can knock some of the pain out of this 2yr-old groin/ileopsoas strain. I'm tired of not having a full night's sleep. I'm losing my sense of humor. Time to shake a leg and overcome my fear of laser - born from watching James Bond and that laser light cutting up toward his family jewels. Ah, what an image! |

Wow, I love it that we're so active here! I don't know where to start with replying to everyone, and I really appreciate the support.
I didn't make it last night, y'all. I think I must not have gone much over 1000 calories though and I'm going to try to stick to about 1500 today. I know it gets easier with every down day and I just have to keep going and make sure not to give up.My tips are to drink hot tea during your down days, that helps me SOOOO much. I also chew sugarless gum. Something that I have to do is have at least a bit of protein with every meal on my DD because I have very severe arthritis and without it, my pain meds upset my tummy. The 50 pound loss isn't quite as dramatic because at that point, I had about 150 pounds to lose. Of course, that means that it's going to come off much quicker in the beginning. I'm really not happy about gaining the weight back but I suppose that happens sometimes. So, I'm sitting here starting over with a goal of losing 135 pounds. I know it's possible with JUDDD, if I can just stay motivated and do it. Have any of you used any sort of appetite supressant? I've been thinking of trying one and I've done my research, but I just don't know. |

Now, I have to say that I admire those of you who can do low carb. I just can't handle it. I lost 25 pounds on Atkins at one point but I SUFFERED through every pound.

![]() I did at one point (a long time ago) try OTC diet pills. They helped but I didn't want to become dependent on them so I quit. I agree that low carb has helped me immensely. Oh, back to add~if you do decide to do the appetite suppressant, be VERY careful where you buy them. There was a bruhaha not too long ago about drugs on the internet that were coming from CHINA and you know how great their safety record is. People getting really sick or dying from them. I'm curious about your difficulty with low carb. As has been pointed out, for many of us, it's the ONLY way to suppress appetite, and I find it so very flexible. There are a lot of low carb plans, some more flexible than others.
I'm not trying to preach, but I know that there's nothing better for suppressing hunger. I need to restrict calories, but I'd find that impossible without low carb. |

I had constant cravings when I was doing low carb. Now, I was doing a fairly strict version of it but I did not like it at all. Also, to be honest, I don't want to have to count anything, even carbs. I eat 3 meals of 150 calories or less each on my down days and just try to eat fairly healthy on my up days. Maybe I was too rigid when I did low carb?

Hi Leo so sorry to hear you are sick. Definately listen to your body and just have an UD as soon as your able. You may lose a bit of muscle but a good UD should rapidly refire your metabolism.
![]() Donia Welcome. That first DD is a killer. I remember when I first went to the JUDDD site and figured out I could have 324 cals I was shocked how low it was and thought I'd never do it, but after a Few DD it gets easier and now I'm often around 250 cals. Stick with it - you'll do great. Retro I made your cake again. Heated it with Walden's syrup and ate a piece like a pancake. Very good. It's in my ****** now as "Retro cake". Angie Yes I'm a contract nurse. I do ventilator dependent infants/children. Very rewarding, very stressful. EmandM I, too, try for healthy foods only and ofcourse Low Carb gets rid of all the sweets and grains but I still overdo the good stuff and have a real weakness for cream, cream cheese, and almond butter. Those are my UD treats. No wonder my cals go so high! Maizen Way to go on the UD. How was Atlanta? DH goes down to Georgia once in a while on business. He loves it. If he goes again I'm going with him and I'll let you know, but the company has really cut travel with the economy so crummy. Everyone talking about diet pills - all I can say is I stole a few of my Mom's when I was in high school and felt high for hours (wrote a darn good term paper in 4 hours straight). I think JUDDD does a much better job of helping to control weight and for me LC works for appetite control. Any excessive carbs and I'm an eating machine. Wish I could figure out how to go back a page here without losing my post so I could answer more, but this is too long already so I'll just say hello to all - so glad you're here! ![]() |

Doria - I don't do low carb and I have been successful with JUDDD (but I only had a few pounds to lose). I drink hot tea, coffee and eat pickles on my DD's to fill me up. Also V8 juice, veggies (carrots, sugar snap peas) and fruit (usually grapes and berries). My DD cals are low (300).

Back again already. Just wanted to saycaramel you rock. I could never show restraint at Starbucks - haven't let myself go in there in 2 years. You are doing great. Explain to me the benefits of water fasting (I hate water is it mandatory?) Does it offer any additional health benefits. I've done 2 day spiritual fasts but never for dietary reasons.
Kisha Welcome back sounds like you did well at the conference. OK this time I really am signing off! |

Hello, all!
Newbie here. I had my first UP day today, and am headed into my second Down Day. Thought I'd say hi, hello, and howdy, and see how active this board is. I'm a bit nervous about tomorrow - yesterday I was hungry enough to gnaw my arm off, and I'm not looking forward to it again. Does that ever end???? I'm planning a day of about 275 calories - mostly salad, spaghetti squash, and sf metamucil 'smoothies'. Is there anyone out there on my schedule? Anyone out there who's done this for a while? Does it work? What changes have you noticed??? I've read the JUDDD site, and several blogs and have a good handle on the program, so I'm looking for a support community that's really uplifting and encouraging. I'm open to any and all advice! Naomi

Hello Everyone...
Congrats on the weight loss to everyone moving down on the scale! Welcome to the newcomers... Today I'm feeling a bit under the weather and had a protein shake at lunch...then had a burger, salad, and small potato for dinner...then some dark chocolate! Hopefully I will get back on track tomorrow with my down day...a new beginning! Need to get some rest now... P.S. My shirt seemed looser today, especially over my hips... I wanted to jump on the scale but restrained myself lol!!! ![]() TJ ![]() Last edited by skeeweeaka; 01-07-2009 at 06:43 PM.. |

![]() BTW, I took your tweak of the cake and swapped out the vanilla pudding for banana and had "banana bread". Not bad! Since you've got lots of the weird ingredients you should check out today's 100 calorie cake creation: Orange Stack Cake: 100 calories! Without the icing it's less than 60 calories for the 4 muffins combined! Could be any flavor if you don't like the orange: banana, almond, vanilla, lemon, coconut, etc. Just limited by extracts you have on hand, or I wonder if DaVinci syrups could be used instead of the water. . . .? Off to bed now. I see the thread is pretty active so I'll spend more time here with some responses tomorrow,

Hello Everyone,
Well today is an UD for me and I am closing in on about 2100 cal. my max in 2300. To answer your question Shunsweets about the water fasting, it is all mental. I find when I tell my self ok tommorow is a water fast and the rest of my DDays for the week are going to stay around 500 calories it seems this prepares me mentally. And I am less hungry throughout the day and at night when I water fast as opposed to the 500 cal. DDays. I know go figure And I was really surprised at my self at Starbucks, my friends treated me and they also got some delicious looking cookies but I guess for me I was remembering a statement a lady said once about her weight loss success, she said she wanted to be thin more than she wanted the food and that eventually was her motivating factor. That really stuck with me this time, I really want this weight loss/to be healthier-bad.

I remember you from the CTFLC board - glad you made your way over!I've been doing JUDDD since the end of September, and lost 11.8 pounds so far (December was a wash as far as weight loss, but I did a lot of celebrating ) I LOVE this way of eating. The down days get much easier as you go. Part of what makes them easy is that you had enough food the day before. Another part of what makes it easy is that you know you can have whatever you are obsessing about the very next day. Then when that day comes your appetite is generally much less than you would think! Win Win!Some of the CTFLC ideas work on this plan. When I first started I would eat little somethings fairly often on down days whether I was very hungry or not. Now I wait as late as I can to eat anything, often it's dinner time before I have anything. It takes a little tweaking to figure out exactly what works best for you on this plan, but you'll get there. ![]() |

Sorry for my lack of participation lately - just have a ton of other stuff going on at the moment and not much time for writing posts.
I did a water fast today and it was great. Usually I do them Mondays, but this week was a little weird so I switched it up a bit. Did an hour on the treadmill tonight for 3.8 miles. And now it's 10:30 pm already! Goodnight ladies - and congratulations on all your successes, both with the scale and the clothing sizes and with conquering temptation and figuring out how to manage your up days and down days. This is an awesome group ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Caramel Thanks for the water fast tips. Maybe I'll try one day when I don't need to eat with the family. I see you limit UD cals to 2300. Is that from the J site numbers? I just can't seem to get a good handle on UD. I think I'm overeating, but probably just being my usual obsessive self because my weight is fine, but I can't get used to these over 2000 days on ******! (JUDDD says I only need 1600!) Old habits die hard!
Mammapo Welcome. It's nice here. ![]() Skeeweeaka Hope you feel better. There are a lot of viruses about this month. We're fighting them at work daily and have lost 2 babies (they were critically ill already mind you). Take care of yourself! ![]() Quandria I did miss your wonderful posts! Life is so busy! Retro I posted on your recipe thread. A real step out of my comfort zone! Thanks for another DD treat! Today is UD for me. Goal is to eat healthy foods only and keep carbs<10.(and maybe cals <2000? Nah!) Also want to get in a 4 mile jog if mother nature will cooperate! Then it's shopping, haircut, bank, dog groomer, post office, laundry, and housecleaning. Sometimes days off are worse than working! ![]() I'll check back in later. Have a great day JUDDDers! |

Caramel Thanks for the helpful water fast tips...I just might try them one of these days. (BTW, if you missed my Starbucks Congratulations to you, it is in my post #127 on page 5) And yes, that statement you quoted from some wise woman is really so true: "she said about her weight loss success... she wanted to be thin more than she wanted the food" I think I need to have that tatooed on the insde of my eyelids!

remember in school how a teacher would make us write an essay about how we spent our summer vacation? OK, here is my version:
How I Spent My DownDay Eating Lots of Calories and Still Lost Weight: I started the day with an egg and coffee. so far, so good. For lunch: green salad with a bit of broiled chicken on top. Water to drink. so far, so good. Well, late in the afternoon, we drove from the Trader Joes in an Atlanta suburb up a town north and west called Dawsonville (where there are premium outlets) to see what Chicos had to offer. (I found a few pieces of nice stuff at bargain rates Longhorn. Supper: salad, STEAK, broccoli. Hmmm, juicy, high-calorie steak: not so good. at least calorie wise--and I dreaded seeing the scale this morning. BUT this morning the scale said I was down .2 of a pound! ![]() How could I eat so many calories and still lose weight on my FAILED DOWNDAY?I betcha the old time Atkins and LC Girls know the answer. Yep, I ate low carb all day and despite all the calories from that yummy steak, still lost two tenths of a pound instead of gaining. Today will be an UpDay but it will also be another faithful LC day. |

I think one of the key things on this plan is that when we "think" we're overeating, if we actually looked at the menu from a standard plan (like Atkins or ProteinPower) we'd fine that we were actually on plan. That is, for me, the DD tends to skew my perspective, and if I eat 1000-1200 calories on an UD, I feel as though I've eaten a lot more. That's why I think we can experience "success" with what feels like overeating.
Isn't it great? |

Well I for one do not feel at all bad about getting my calories in. I figure if I eat 2000 one day and 400 the next, that's still an average of only 1200/day and I'd never be able to maintain that on a daily basis doing it the old way without being a royal B*T**, cranky, and obsessive, etc.
