Yeah, but after going thru all this imagine how you'd feel if it WASN'T!

Gotta be in the right emotional space to confront that.

Maybe if the scale were locked inside a padded cell and the innocent bystanders around me could be spared. . . .

Very Good Point. Hmn... maybe wait until you are feeling uber uber skinny? Or when you notice a change in how your clothes are fitting?

I haven't had a true DD in about a week (vacation). today is my first DD back on and I AM FREAKING STARVING. I've already eaten just about the whole 500 calories for the day. argh. After work I'll be doinga quick rotating door change my clothes and head back out - then i'll be out of the house until like nine so I should be okay as long as I go RIGHT. TO. BED. when I get home. I'm just really really hungry. This is the toughest DD i've had so far by far.

*sad face*

WOE: Low Carb! Alternate Day!
Start Date: March 2008! January '09 Restart!
Hey Everyone...

I'm so loving eating like this...every day is a new beginning and right now in my life I could use some new beginnings.

That said, RETRO, I am not getting on the scale either...not until the middle of the month... I decided that I can't take the humiliation and that I do better based on trying on a pair of jeans that I'm trying to get into...so that is what I will do! Then again, I have a doctor's appointment the 13th with an ENDO and they may weight me then...heavy sigh! Perhaps by then I will be able to handle it!

Ravae...when I use the sweeteners, I get very anxious. Usually I just drink water...lately I've been using a lot of lemon... Even when I make tea lately I've been just using lemon... Sometimes I use Stevia, but to me it has no taste at all so I might as well use nothing. The only time I use a sweetener is with coffee, usually divinci syrup, but I eat walnuts prior to drinking the coffee to coat my stomach with some protein and then I don't have any problems, but I drink coffee only occasionally any more...decaf!

Kisha...Hey found you a hotty huh! Congrats...and welcome back from the garden of EDEN!!!

Today was my down day....well I think I ate too many calories for that....had one meal but had creamed spinach and a burger....and my SF chocolate pudding of course... Possibly too much cheese (parmesan) in the creamed spinach, but oh was it good! To better days ahead!

I'm loving this plan and this group...GO GETUM SISTERS!

TJ

Wow. Finally a few minutes to sit and read and post. The new job was stressful, not the patients - their damn computer charting system, and I'm getting a little old for 18 hour work days, but once a week I'll try. I signed up for 4 weeks so then I'll decide.

Had a very low DD yesterday 200cals and today was weigh day and I'm down another pound. Now I'm within my goal range of +/- 3 pounds of 110. I'll wait another week or two before I make any changes to be sure I'm stabilized back at my usual weight. Dr J stresses eating low on DD even for maintenance to keep the health benefits so I think I may just add my coconut oil in the morning back in (I was gaining with it before) and see if I can handle it with JUDDDing.

Maizen I sure hope this diet gets rid of all that inflammation. Glad you're feeling well and I'm picturing you walking to the beat on your new treadmill.

EmandM So glad to hear you got some positive news! It is nervewracking to wait for tests and results. We are right there with you. I'm envious that you can control your UD's so well. I eat like crazy on UD but I'm losing about.75 pounds a week so it's all good. Just no portion control in my makeup. Maybe it's the LC that saves me.

Been stuck doing indoor walking the last two days and it's supposed to be freezing rain again tomorrow. Mother nature - we must honor all her moods.

Debi I used to do some staffing when I was DON (director of nursing) for a facility. Boy was that a headache. I feel your pain.

Welcome to our new JUDDDers and greetings to all. Isn't this a great place?

My plan was to water fast today so I still might the rest of this day.

Retroworx I am right with you on the weighing thing.
Last week I decided to try not weighing for a week and tommorow was to be my weigh in but today TOM came so I won't be weighing yet again and it has given me a freedom I haven't felt in a long time, in other words " I aint sweatin it". But I will after Tom is over just to see how my progress.

to all newbees we definetly love the company. This is a woderful board for info and just plain ole fellowship. You guys rock!

Now where oh where is my Maizenbluebabe for words of wisdom ?
Caramel, Sweet Thing, I am right here not sure how many words of wisdom I can offer you tonight, but I'll try. And--arent you the strong one to be able to walk into a Starbucks and stick to a no-sugar, low-fat version of your fave! That would be hard to do, but you didnt weaken and spoil your DD--hooray!

And to Caramel and Retro and ALL brave souls who resist the The Siren Call of The Scale--that is SO hard for me to do, even after an UpDay. Call me a slave to that squinty little plastic face with the digital numbers--I cant help myself.

This is an UpDay for me. I have eaten lightly today and for dinner I had salad and small bowl of Dreamfields topped with lots of spaghetti sauce containing low-carb sauce and wonderful ground beef from grass-fed NON-Chemical cattle. (Well, I did put a little red wine in it but the alcohol is all cooked off.

It has been a crazy busy day here. I picked up my new treadmill and our friend and handyman Chuck came and put it together for me. I am looking forward to a daily date with Bob Seger and my treadmill--such fun once I get into the routine. Sometimes, I play my ABBA Gold and pretend I am The Dancing Queen. I love "I Had a Dream" too, but it always makes me cry because it reminds me of my mother who so unquestioningly believed in angels. (I believe in them, too. and I have found some here.)

Tomorrow is a DD and I will be soooo busy--too busy to get hungry, I hope--going into The Big City (Atlanta) with my friend and cousin Corinne for an allday "Expotition"(as Pooh would say) and we will go to emporiums of joy like Trader Joes and a huge TJMAXX and a BOOKSTORE! (Borders) What luxury to go to a real bookstore.

Everyone have a lovely JUDDDful Day and I will see you tomorrow night if I have the energy after we get back.

wow--what a DD, shunsweets! Your results ought to inspire all of us who have moments when we wonder if this plan works! And what a wonderful example you are setting for the new members to see as they decide about joining this plan

Shunsweets and Debi--I do sympathize--my SIL is an RN and was in ob/gyn for a Kaiser Permanente hosp in southern Cal. She did such a great job that they offered her an administrative position on her service and she thought she would enjoy it. WRONG! In 2 weeks, she was begging for her old job back (they gladly gave it to her) as she didnt enjoy the paperwork the way she had her hands-on care of patients on her floor. And ss, now and then she'd do a double shift--great $$, but it really is hard work and she'd come home really blitzed.

Nurses and Teachers--angels among us.

Hi! I'm not new to JUDDD but I am starting over after gaining back 35 of the 50 pounds I lost a year or so ago. I just found this thread and I love it! I'm on my first DD and I'm STARVING. I've had just under 500 cals and I really want to eat. The bad part is that I'm working until 4am so I can't just go to sleep and ignore the hunger. I'm drinking jasmine green tea and fighting the urge to pull out the remainder of the chicken and rice that I cooked for my husband to take with him to work. Oh yeah, I also work from home so I have a house full of food to resist. AHHH!!!

Hey there Donia! It is always a delight to have another follower of intermittent eating/fasting join us, and YOU already know how Dr Johnson's plan is done, lucky girl. 50 pounds of loss ? Got any tips for the rest of us?

I really do believe that any plan works better if you have friends to share it with--both the victories and the set-backs--which is why I love this thread and the other dear JUDDDlets who are here to cheer each other on and learn what makes this a success.

Stick with us kid, you'll lose weight and have fun along the way!

When you work from home (or are there all day long like we retirees) then you face a special challenge but it sounds like you know how to deal with that so you already have a head start.

And yay for me, too --yesterday was an UpDay and I stayed really low-carb and didnt gain even though I had lots to eat.

Today will be a busy DD with plenty of walking so I hope it will be a really effective DD. Gotta go get ready for my day in The Big City now . Have a lovely wonderful happy day, everyone!

This is my second down day. I don't count calories because my *"Sweet Wild Child"/SWC, {that's what I call the part of me that has food issues), freaks when ever I even think about counting calories. Hence what **"we" do is only eat when we are really really hungry on DD, like stomach growling or nausious hungry: AND then only enough to quiet the hunger. I do Intuitive eating so my journey right now is to learn to honor my bodies hunger signals.

I'm feeling very excited about todays journey. It's 5 and we are enjoying life until the hunger kicks in then we will eat. We will start with an egg. Then I made up a lowish carb soup to use for the rest of the days hunger induced eating.

I also am a non weigher because the scales totally messes with SWC's brain. Therefore we have a stack of jeans we are intending to get back into. One pair at a time until we reach our skinny jeans.

We're into ***many things that are aiding our eating adventure so if we sound sorta out there some times, just ignore those parts

*Wild Child is from Martha Becks book The Four Day WIN
**we= sweet wild child and I...I being the mother in me.
*** Here is a list of all (I thinK) of the things that are aiding my journey to a naturally slender me.

-Intuitive Eating Books
-The Four Day Win Book
-the Joy Life Diet Book
-Anything on the Law of Attraction
-The Mood Cure Book
-Inside Out Weightloss Podcasts
-and now Upday and Down Day Eating
-I'm also into EFT

Hi ladies!

I too am a slave to the scale and I jump on everyday (not during TOM though)! I find that I look at it differently now. Instead of letting it rule me, I look at it as information. So if the scale jumps a huge amount on an UD compared to another UD I look at what I ate that UD. It calms me down because at least I know why (must have been those two pieces of b-day cake, or too much salt etc). I use the scale as a tool.

I was down 1.7 pounds after DD and up only .4 after yesterday's UD so I am a happy camper! lol I am hungry this morning but had my coffee and I feel good. I am finding the DD's getting easier and easier.

Shunsweets - thinking of you and your DH as well. Your work sched is crazy! Hope you ease into it! You asked how I manage to "control" my UD's (I think it was you) and it's definately different now that I eat more for health. As I mentioned before on CAD I would eat chicken fingers and fries during my one meal. Now I make sure I make healthy cancer prevention type choices. The fact that I get to eat when I am hungry on UD (whereas on CAD I fasted all day) makes a huge difference. I find that i don't need to binge on high cal sugary foods since I'm not hungry. Does that make sense? lol

Ravae - I love your nickname for your food issue part! I have a sweet wild child too and can be quite rebellious! I find JUDDD helps the best to tame her!

Donia - welcome! And yes, any tips are greatly appreciated! How did it go last night? Did you make it through your first DD? It gets a lot easier!

I will respond to everyone else after. I am at work and it's time to start class! lol

Morning everyone - DD completed yesterday and this morning down .6 on scale. I still do not get why I have lost more after an UD ???? Not complaining though.

EMandM - I am more like you with the scale - in that, I do get on every morning and if I gain I look at what I ate and learn from it. Also, because I am curious by nature and I just have to KNOW!!

Donia - welcome!! Any good tips??

I was thinking of trying on my next DD - tomorrow - having my shake along w/1/2 of a Full Bar and glass of water. I know they are not the best bars, but they are suppose to fill you up.....so I will try and let you know.

I did do an exercise DVD this am - Bikini Ready w/ Ellen Barrett (luv her).
Unfortunately, I think I am getting sick again - I was up coughing last night and I feel kind of ick...had to force myself to exercise....started Zicam this am....office is FULL of the FLU - they are dropping like flies!!

Have a great day everyone!!!

Just had my DD breakfast. Our tummy growled at about 6:45. So SWC and I got the egg ready. She wanted to gobble it down, but I helped her let go of that thought.

Instead we steeped a cup of green tea with stevia to have with it. Then set down in our "Naturally slender" eating chair and slowly enjoyed our egg. I know all of you never eat standing up, or watching tv or in front of the fridge but that's something that we had to create a "naturallly slender" eating chair to combat.

Now it my job to keep her busy until we growl again. It will be exciting to see how long one egg carries us.

This is really going to cut down on my food bill and I do love saving money.

Hope you can help me out. At the end of my UD on Monday, I was "hit" with something--mild flu perhaps--fever, nausea, and absolutely no appetite (a SURE sign that I am ill:-)

So although I was miserable yesterday, it was an ideal DD for me. I had about 200 calories because I forced myself to drink a shake so as not to take aspirin (for my fever) on a empty stomach.

But here it is an UD, and I still don't want food. I doubt that I'll be able to get in as much as 500 c.

Will my body understand that it doesn't really want food? I think I've read that it would take a few more days to push me into starvation mode, so this should be OK?

What do you all think?

On the scale issue that I've been reading about--my problem is that I have a tendency to retain water at odd times (that I can't predict), so I have to be careful not to take the numbers too seriously or I can get into a real funk when I don't see a loss or {horrors} a gain, when I've been faithful.

DD Totals Yesterday... not so DD

Here's my totals for yesterday. I was SO HUNGRY. After my vacation MD hiatus I was off the UD DD schedule:

Calories 654
Fat 42.2 373 57 %
Carbohydrate 29.9 110 17 %
Dietary Fiber 11.2
Protein 44.6 170 26 %
Alcohol 0.0 0 0 %

NOT BAD. It was all I could do not to eat more so i'm happy it stayed somewhat DD.

UD today and i've started off with HWC in my coffee... I'll get in a good lunch at Gordon Biersch too.

Can you drink fluids? I have always believed that your body will tell you what it needs and never "forced" myself or anyone else to eat if they didn't feel like it (when ill that is). I would sip on fluids all day if you can tolerate it. That's my two cents. I hope you feel better soon.

I seem to be losing after my UD as well. I'm with you, not complaining and I don't care WHEN it comes off as long as it does!

I CANNOT WAIT!!! IT HAS BEEN a long. slow. crawl. Although i'm actually losing now with JUDD. Last year was a brutal series of extended stalls. I know 2009 will be different though!

I'm so very happy to report that I am down another pound and am at 213 this morning which I have not seen in months! When I see 212, which I haven't seen in YEARS, I will be doing a very long happy dance.

Shun: I'm an RN too. Sounds like you're contract or a traveler? I did travel nursing for 6 years up until this past August. I can totally relate to some horrific computer programs! As if there isn't enough to do, huh?

Maizen: your dinner last night sounds great. I've been afraid to try the Dreamfields because pasta is such an issue for me. I can eat a lot of it, the Italian in me I guess!

My UD went very well. I made sure to get all of my calories in (not that that's ever hard for me), stayed fairly low carb, had a good amount of protein and fat and it paid off, HOORAY!

I'm LOVING reading everyone's posts. Have a great UD or DD today!

Gordon Biersch is right down the back stairs from my office so I eat there every UD lunch! bunless cheeseburgers... NOM NOM NOM
Never had the burgers but I bet they're great. I also love their fish and chips  It would be seriously dangerous for me to work that close to that place.
What kind of work do you do?

I'm a commercial Insurance broker. I work in the historic district downtown San Jose. There are quite a few restaurants nearby including an awesome grocery/deli. GB is the closest though and I just LOVE the food. There are a ton of good LC High Fat choices on there and I seriously eat there several times every week. It was MORE when I wasn't doing JUDD - sometimes I'd eat lunch there every day!

LEO41 - I would not force feed - I would try to get some clear -type soups in like chicken noodle or chicken and rice-and listen to my body.

Congrats to Kisha and Angie on the loss.

Thanks everyone. I'm also a firm believer in listening to my body, and even if doctors didn't tell us to drink a lot of fluids, that's what my body seems to want. However, I don't keep juice or even diet soda in the house (because I shouldn't drink either one), and yesterday even my peppermint tea tasted awful. Today I managed to cobble together a chicken egg drop soup, and that's been good. Between that and more tea, I think I'll be OK for a while.

I'm not going to worry about an UD until this thing is over.

Good plan. Feed yourself what makes you feel well. And maybe you can sneak in some extra fat on your UD... maybe melt a pat of butter on that soup?

Just finished my second feeding. My body easily went 4.5 hours before getting hungry on one egg. That is just amazing to me. I ate breadfast at 7 and my tummy did not growl again until 11:30. We just ate a cup of LC soup and now I'm drinking a glass of stevia lemonade. Then I will help my SWC enjoy herself until our tummy growls again. We are in the middle of watching ratatouille.

Yay for you, as you explore this 48hr plan of fueling a body. Looks to me as if this will suit me nicely. I can always track back my better days to a low-intake day - and the achy days seem related to a high-intake day.

I do not love food as much as I thought I did.

I was once at a seminar that advised anyone could lose weight by eating only foods that rated a full 10 - or maybe a 9 - on a scale of 1 to 10. Thin Within was just getting started when I sat in a room full of people stunned at the idea of allowing ourself forbidden foods, if we did not eat more than that one or two bites that truly rated a high score on a scale of 1 to 10.

It's quite a break for a person in the Clean-Your-Plate club, but I think it might fit into the thinking for an UD. Indulge in a taste of what is actually worth a 9 or 10 rating - then toss the rest - or save it for another day.
