it was a biggy. Me and my little compact smooshed between two huge 2003 style SUVs. No fun for anyone.

Now I'm recovering and enjoying some much needed and now mandatory rest.

I'm so proud of you for sticking it through - Onederland is coming!!! Huzzah!

I get that way after a really good UD. I finished yesterday with some chocolate and was like "gah! I'll be so glad when my DD comes... wait. what????" Followed by 15 minutes of hysterical laughter "hahahaha..ouch!. hahah.. OW!...hahahahah .. I've - ouch - got - ugh-haha- to stop laughing... hahaha"

You get the picture.

Of course now I"m at the end of my DD and all "I canNOT WAIT till tomorrow morning because I'm STAR-VING." LOL

the upside is I'm down to 169.2 right now. Lowest I've been in years.
so glad you are fine, mammapo It is such a scarey experience but bruises do heal and that is always a cheering thought!

And also, thrilled for you about the great new number!

O No! No jokes cracked on this thread today in consideration of your poor self!

I'm feeling really HAPPY for DD today which is a new and a first for me. I'm still feeling *quite* full from all the food I ate yesterday. I didn't track in ****** but I suspect I went over on my calories. Good clean DD today should get me right back on track.

HI everyone, even though I am not as active here as I was earlier in December and January , I still read here a lot and think this is one of the most important groups in this forum and think it offers a wonderful WOE with very helpful members and posts. I'm really glad to see others at the new thread posting in both places and think we can all continue to learn from what is said here.

I myself wont be posting often anymore simply because my new way of eating is so different and it wouldnt be fair to take up space and your time reading about what I am doing now since it is not "real" JUDDD anymore..

So someone who is an active member here needs to be thinking of leading this thread into February in the next month by beginning a new thread. You must continue the good work you have begun, and a fresh new thread should be a good way to start a new month ! Sally

No loss but good news!

For Kisha, this will be good news. I just talked to my endo, and my weight problems are NOT from JUDDD. He reviewed my bloodwork, and not only are all my thyroid numbers optimal, but my cholesterol and blood glucose are perfect as well. He says that the combination of my age (67) and hypo results in an extremely low metabolism--thus the lower-than-normal heartrate.

He suggests some "natural" ways to push up my metabolism--e.g., caffeine and exercise. And when I thought about it, I realized what had caused that impossible weight gain a couple of weeks ago.

I have severe osteoarthritis and am very sedentary, although I try to exercise by swimming laps and some water exercises to strengthen my legs. But I hurt my shoulder in early December and didn't swim for almost a month. Then in early January, just a week or so before that gain, I had a mild flu for a week and did nothing at all--practically bedrest for an entire week. After I recovered, I still felt very tired (which now I think was because that resting had lowered my metabolism even further) and found myself drinking extra coffee to just try to stay awake during the day. It was that week that I experienced the gain--which my endo said is not surprising for someone in my situation even though it seems impossible with the low number of calories I was eating.

Even being faithful to JUDDD has kept my weight at that increased number--i.e., no loss, so my solution will be to try to increase activity as much as possible to get my metabolism back to where it was when I was losing. Fortunately, my shoulder healed enough for me to begin swimming again this week, and if I can force myself to do the housework that's needed here, I'd get a good workout from that as well:-)

My endo doesn't "endorse" any eating plan (he says it's very individual, and he has patients on all kinds of plans that work for them), but he sees no problem with JUDDD and says that anything that helps me keep calories low is a good plan for me.

So I feel much better about staying with JUDDD, and I'll see if I can manage to push my metabolism a little to get me back to losing.

That IS good news Leo! And its true about the exercise (shudder) most of us HypO MUST MUST exercise to lose. Do I exercise? well not much *hangs head* but its coming down the pike at me pretty fast.

I'm so glad you'll be able to get back in the pool! I know that with your dedicated WOE and the added exercise you'll be able to lose again. I'm SO impressed with your determination. You face even more difficulties in losing than most of us! KUTGW.

That's interesting to note, since if I don't excercise, I don't lose weight. Period.

Another interesting thing> they kept saying my heartbeat and blodd pressure were extremely low at the hospital.. low but stable, so they assumed it was my 'norm'

that's another sign of hypo?

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism
Fatigue
Weakness
Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight
Coarse, dry hair
Dry, rough pale skin
Hair loss
Cold intolerance (can't tolerate the cold like those around you)
Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches
Constipation
Depression
Irritability
Memory loss
Abnormal menstrual cycles
Decreased libido

The ONLY way to get diagnosed as HypO is to get the full series of blood tests (NOT JUST TSH) but TSH, FT3, FT4 and thyroid antibody tests (to test for Hashimotos). If you suspect hypothyroidism I strongly suggest geting the tests. If you can't lose weight through diet alone... that is not normal!

It's possible that your slow heart rate is normal for you, but it also could be a sign of hypothyroid--along with all the other symptoms that Kisha kindly posted.

I had trouble getting diagnosed for almost 5 years, and when I had some pre-surgical testing, it was noted that my heart rate was below the norm--but without any prior test, it was just assumed to be normal for me.

My recent concern was because my cardiologist noted that my heart rate was slow compared to previous EKGs he'd done--in other words, there's now a basis for comparison.

Hypothyroid lowers metabolism, and that can lead to a slower heart rate. Since I'm medicated, I was concerned that my slower heart rate meant that I needed to increase medication, but I just need to increase exercise. In other words, my metabolism is so slowed by age and hypothyroidism that even with medication, I can't lose weight without exercise.

I agree with Kisha that you should be tested, but be forewarned that many doctors used outdated standards for judging thyroid numbers. I wasn't treated until I found an endo who would treat on symptoms primarily, although she was more able to evaluate my bloodwork than my PCP.

Yesterday DD Totals

BARELY scraped by... look at my totals lol:

Calories 500
Fat 35.5 316 63 %
Carbohydrate 7.4 28 6 %
Dietary Fiber 1.0
Protein 38.2 156 31 %
Alcohol 0.0 0 0 %

How I managed to hit 500 cals right on the nose I have no idea. I'd prefer to be under 400 but I'll take the 5 hundo at this point. Today is UD and I'm going to do my best not to overeat. I'm going to be tracking and staying under my 2100 max allowed cals. happy JUDDing everyone!

Yesterday was my DD, too, and I managed at 400, although I'm trying to get just a little below that--perhaps 350.

What I find really amazing is that when I was trying to restrict calories to 1000-1200 daily, I always woke up incredibly hungry--breakfast was my biggest meal. But now, eating only 400 cal., I don't wake that hungry, and my usual breakfast is totally satisfying!

By the way, I was happy to read in Dr. J's book that the UD calories are not important--only the DD, because my max is 2000, but I try to eat only 1200-1400 (to lose), so apparently that's OK. That made me feel a lot better about my UDs. (I know that max is too high for me because of my medical situation, but I had been worried that the program would not "work" for me, so knowing that it's OK to eat less has been a relief.)

Again, the wonderful thing about this plan is that after 400 cal, 1200 seems like a feast. I am more than satisfied and not at all tempted to overeat.

I actually wasn't hungry when I woke up this morning either. Of course I STILL ate what I had been planning to for breakfast... because it was the thought of that breakfast that kept me from overeating the night before LOL! I had a spoonful of peanut butter when I woke up at six and then real brekky after that. But yeah, the actualy physical sensation of hunger wasn't really present... I'm trying to pay more attention to my body's signals. Its not natural for me!

Gee whiz! I can always eat and I am always hungry in the morning. I eat my breakfast and am good until dinner but my stomach is growling by dinnertime. Even when I was in ketosis, I still got hungry frequently. I don't actually count my UD calories but I'm sure it's at my 2050 target or above. Of course, I do eat pretty high fat stuff. Well whatever, I'm still losing. I just get amazed at people who are satisfied on 1500 calories a day.

mammapo, it's so good that you're ok! Leo, I also have severe osteo arthritis and haven't been doing much exercise at all. I'm trying to find a swim class in my area to join.

Sorry I haven't been around. I've just had so much going on. I went off of JUDDD for a bit but I didn't gain or lose, I just stayed the same but I've lost a bit since I went back on. I found out that my grandma has extensive cancer throughout her body and that has certainly been a blow to my family. My husband had a 2nd spot of skin cancer removed last week and I've been taking care of him. I also found out that I'm not a candidate for knee replacement surgery because of my young age and also that I'm allergic to metals. That means that losing this weight is even more important. I have to start using a cane but on the bright side, I was approved for handicapped parking.

I saw where someone was asking for stats to be posted so here are mine. I'm leaving out the 50 pounds that I lost before and gained part of back. I'm starting over fresh.

Weeks on Plan: 3

Loss-to-Date: 10

Starting Weight: 335

Age: 37

Donia--

So sorry about your family illnesses--stress can be so debilitating.

Let me offer the "good side" of using a cane--from one who has had a cane for the past 25 years!

People don't usually knock you over when you're trying to navigate a crowd, but if they are too rough, you can always clear yourself a path with the cane.

I don't know whether you ever fly, but with a cane, you get the BEST service at most airports.

Also, when you use a cane, people don't give you "dirty looks" when you park in handicap spots.

Awww, you guys are all so sweet and thank you!

Leo, those are all very good points and it helps me so much because I'm really trying to look at the positive side of it. In fact, I found a lady online who makes fabric cane covers so I'm ordering one with a flame fabric. I'm sort of in to the whole Bettie Paige, sort of punk look so I think that will fit it well. hehe When I told my mom, she said right away that I would have to find a way to "punk up my cane". It was hilarious because she's a very conservative Texas lady. I think my husband is more excited about the handicapped parking then I am since we pretty much go everywhere together. He's also happy because we'll be able to get handicapped seating at some concerts. He's been great about it all.

I'm happy to be back here with all of you. This is the best place for JUDDD support that I've found.

Humongous Upday Yesterday

WOAH Nellie! I went to a funeral on my lunch break yesterday and only had time for a drug store lunch. which equalled half a can of cashews and four processed beef sticks

SO I ended up with pretty huge totals for yesterdays UD:

Calories 2,358
Fat 187.3 1,646 70 %
Carbohydrate 67.0 260 11 %
Dietary Fiber 12.8

The Macros look great to me (I try to do slightly higher good carb on UD since DD are so low on everything) but Holy Shmoly look at the total calories! Well, at least I tracked it. lol.

And my weight is still in the low end of my range so I think a good strong DD today and there will be no damage done.
