GrammyPat and Leo41: Seems I am in the same boat w/the hormonal issues as far as difficulty losing. Exercise made more of a difference before menopause to me - I still do it because it makes me feel good and tightens me up and gives me a sense of accomplishment.

Leo41- Wonderful news on your loss....I am so glad you found that JUDD is working for you. I hope I am as lucky!! I love your DD Breakfast - I forgot about the LC cheese - I am going to find some this week and look for the Bran Crisp.

Kate and James: Welcome, I think you will like it here.

EMandM: Congrats on your loss and yes I feel the same way about the DD - a new start every other day!!

My UD yesterday ended w/about 1400 cals and exercise was good!! Today is a DD and I am having my Muscle Milk light shakes (2) and then I may try either soup or Leo41's DD breakfast for my dinner - along w/coffee. No exercise today - not much sleep last night. BF had the hiccups of all things then he kept getting up for water, then the bathroom...on and on.....so no sleep for me...I am a very light sleeper.

Have a great day everybody!!!!!

Kater - welcome, I recognize you from the CAD thread (I think, correct me if I am wrong). I followed CAD for 10 years on and off (not while pregnant or anything) and I prefer JUDDD for many reasons. it just really suits my diet personality. Good luck! The DD's are tough at first but they get way easier!

Leo - wow, your success is amazing for many reasons. The psychological aspect for me has been the most surprising and welcoming. I had posted about every DD feeling like a new start, so I have that new diet energy and motivation. I have not been bored of this or entertained notions of starting another plan, and that is huge for me. Even though I stuck to CAD for ages, I also started a gazillion other plans in between and was always looking for something new. On JUDDD I have no desire to eat any other way and I can see myself eating this way for life!

JGW - welcome. the more the merrier! Good luck!

Donia - do you know why you stopped JUDDDING? I am still fairly new at it and very enthusiastic about it. Just curious as to why you stopped. Glad you are following it again!

Good morning all! So glad to see reports of weight and inches lost.

Today is DD for me. Yesterday my weight was still up a bit from my new alltime low but I'm not tripping as I'm still in a new and lower "weight range" since starting JUDD. I'm planning on just one meal today (dinner) probably a couple of cups of vegetables with a couple of eggs cooked in PAM. Hoping to be at least down to my low low of 203.5 tomorrow. I'm also going to try to drink my water today. Something I normally don't do.

i mean, water... ugh! Do people really drink that nasty stuff? lol.

Yep, I quit because I am addicted to food and I got lazy. I started thinking that I'm just fat and I'm always going to be fat so why keep trying? I also have an incredible amount of loose skin from having 2 sets of twins 2 years apart. They were all very big babies and it totally changed my body. It's difficult to know that if I do ever get down to my goal weight, I'm going to actuallly be LESS attractive with all of the skin than I am fat. I'm sort of damned if I do, damned if I don't, which is why I have to focus on health and not looks. Yes, I am a MESS!

Donia, with two sets of twins I know you are one busy person. Workout is 24/7, I bet, with that number of people looking to you for their every need. You look young and I believe that skin CAN repair the stretching that pregnancy brings on, so I think you can reasonably look for some snugging up as you take off weight and maybe massage the slack skin as you focus energy on encouraging that organ (skin is the biggest organ in our body!) to pull itself together. Flat belly? Not in my lifetime, I'm sure, but maybe you will be surprised to see how your tum changes. Do measure, so you can tell for sure when there are changes. Trust that a body WILL adapt, WILL change. Have faith in our wonderful body - for it is a wonderful thing, the human body. Just keep on keeping on, as best you can, while you take care of all those beautiful babies! Two sets of twins? Wow!

Oh, I am older than I look! I'm 37 and my babies are all teenagers now. I had them in my early 20's. The first set were 7lbs, 10oz and 6lbs, 5oz. The second set were both 7lbs, 1oz. I had so much loose skin back then that I could put my hands under my ribs and grip them. Weird, huh? It's tightened up some since then, though.

jgw~ Yes, I have lost weight doing JUDDD without low carb in the past. 50 pounds, actually. I just started back last week and I've lost 7 pounds so far, but I'm sure a lot of that is water weight. I don't care, though! I'll take it!

Donia, you look like a teenager yourself! Let's see what we can do together to become more active as we explore this Alternate Day plan. I am hopeful, as I lurk and glean info from those who are fully into working a plan that strikes me as being one that my body will like a lot more than it likes eating every dang day to get enough protein into me so that my muscles are saved from being harvested to manage basic metabolic processes. Here's to sparing our muscle, especially the heart muscle that keeps on beating faithfully, bless it!

Donia - I have twins too! How old are yours? I have two DD's and they will be 3 in March. They are quite a workout and yes, boy do they take a toll on your body! Great weights for twins! Mine were 3 and 5 pound, teeny tiny things. Small but healthy! Are yours fraternal? I admire you for knowing yourself so well and for looking at things from a health perspective instead of from a being thin perspective!

jgw - I don't do low carb and I lost 3 pounds last week. I don't have much to lose, I am now 3-4 pounds away from goal!

Ilpirata - I hate water too and force myself to drink it at times, but I usually forget. I much prefer to drink coffee and tea!

Zer - great advice for Donia!

Yes, I am learning so much from everyone who is posting! I feel so much more motivated just knowing that you all are going through the same things as I am. I do have trouble with exercise because of my arthritis but I want to explore and see just how far I can push myself without being in too much pain.

Zer, thank you so much for the compliment! I must have good genes because the women in my family all seem to age well. At least I have that going for me! hehe I certainly don't feel like a teenager though. I feel much older than I should when one of my knees is bone on bone and I'm headed for knee replacement surgery. I think I'd rather look my age and not have that to deal with. Oh well, you have to take the good with the bad and do your best!

My niece is having twins, I pray she has a great pregnancy.

Emand that's great 3 pounds last week.

I joined a water challenge. I have 50 more of 100 oz to go.
I prefer coffee and tea too.

EMandM~I remember the 3 year old days! lol Actually, they're a lot of fun at that stage, aren't they? My boys are 14 and 16. Their dad and I divorced 5 years ago and they live with him right now. We still see them often, though and I'm really lucky because they get along great with my 2nd husband. It's so good that your babies were healthy! My oldest set is fraternal and the younger ones are identical.

Yes, I have been posting on the CAD thread. I thought that I recognized you too. I like the idea of CAD and would probably do better on CALP rather than CAD because I overeat during the RM and end of feeling so guilty/unhealthy. I did lose on CAD but havn't stuck to it (so gained back the losses). I like the ladies over there and check in.

I think this is going to work for me! I like the idea of starting a new diet every DD!

Kate - I still read the CAD thread too and post once in awhile as I love those ladies as well and like to read how they are doing. CALP is not for me as I am a vegetarian and carbs are a big part of my diet (funny that I am on a low carb forum but I found it while looking for a CAD support group). I hope you are successful with JUDDD!

Donia - I adore this age. My kids are a hoot and they say and do the funniest things. They are total sponges and absorb everything and their love and enthusiasm for the world is contagious! I found the first year really hard with two, but once they could walk and talk it became a lot easier!

jgw - good luck on that water challenge! Do you put lemon in it or anything? I find it hard to drink because I don't like the taste but also because I am always cold, and water makes it worse!

No I'm not putting lemon in my water. I should then I may can tolerate it better. I got 1 more 16 oz to drink and I'll have my 100 oz in for today.

okay so water fasting not for me lol. at least not THIS DD. I got super hungry around lunch and went to the nearby deli salad bar. mostly lettuce with on HB egg, some cabbage, tiny bit of shredded carrot, 1 tsp of grated parm and balsamic vinegar. Guess I'd better plug that into ****** and see the damage. I'm hoping its a-okay.

ETA: 215 total calories so I'm good! I can even have a couple eggs for dinner with maybe 1 C of veg and be under 500 for the day.

Kisha-

I don't think I could ever water fast on DDs! Even though I rely on shakes for protein, I need some real food for "mouth action." Even when I prepped for a colonoscopy recently, I had to make myself some diet jello (which I normally never eat because of the aspertame) in order to have some "food" during the day.

Since I basically follow the tenets of ProteinPower, my focus is getting enough protein in with those few calories on a DD (hence the shakes).

Hello everyone
And a special Kater, JGW, Kate, Zer, GrammyPat and James
and again you may not be new to this board but because
I don't post often you are new to me so hello. I don't
usually post on the weekends but I try to faithfully
stay on plan. Had to go back and read some posts and boy has everyone
been busy.

ravae it is a womans perogative to change her mind and boy did I
through the Christmas holiday, I was making and changing dates with this
woe for special occasions and still lost over the holidays. The Flexibility of
this plan is going to give me staying power.

Donia great news on your loss! I know that it can be a real motivator

EmandM congratulations on your loss also and I also feel a since of starting
over and it also alows me to gain control of my eating habits it like every DD
gets easier as mentally I get stronger over my food addictions.

Ilpirata I know what you mean about the water and today is a DD for me
(hopefuly a water fast it I make it) so lets stay strong together.

Leo you are such a wealth of information and I am learning so much from
you great job on your success on this woe.

Debbi great job on your UD yesterday and excersise. It's hard for me to
incorporate excersise on the weekends but I think I'm going to have to try.

Skeeweeaka I'm glad to hear you had a great weekend.

Mammapo I gained a poud after about week 3 and their were some on this
board that suggested vitamin c as it will flush you and of course drinking
plenty of water and I also starting weighing in at weekly intervals while
staying strictly on plan and after a week 2.8 pounds came off so I hope this
will help.

Maizenbluebabe you are such the encourager, what would we do without
you?

I'm sorry to hear you gained; I hope it wasn't because of my faulty advice to eat all your up day calories. I should have been more clear that it's something that works for me, not necessarily something that would work for everyone. I felt horrible when you reported that you were having to eat to a point of discomfort in order to get close to your up day calorie goal.

It took me a while to tweak this plan in to something that worked for me to lose weight, and I think everyone has to make their own adjustments until it's something that works and is enjoyable (as enjoyable as a weight loss plan can be I mean). When I started my up day calories were under baseline and I didn't start losing until I remedied that. Dr. Johnson says we don't HAVE to eat all our up day calories, so I hope you can find the range that works for you. Also I don't have thyroid issues (although my body temperature is also always low - around 96.8 to 97.5, and I have low blood pressure).

I hope you will stick with the plan if it's something that works with your lifestyle, and just give it a bit more time and some trial and error to figure out how it best works for you.

GOodness, I'm not giving up after one week! That would be insanity. I believe you've got to give a diet a full 12 weeks to make a determination. So I'm here, for better or worse, for another 11.

I saved all my calories for tonight's dinner (DD) so I'll be having a burger (no bun ,no ketchup etc, yes tomato yes lettuce) and 10 french fries. Total for the day: 386 calories = 20% JUDDDRDA

I'm going to reduce my UDs to 1600 calories and see if that helps. I really do okay until I try to cram that last 300 calories in, so I'm guessing that I actually don't need it.

It's a down day for me today - hurray!!! I try to do a water fast on Mondays, so far so good - just one bought of hunger so far, and it passed quickly.

I'm supposed to workout tonight, but am also packing for my trip (leaving Wednesday for somewhere warmer, woohoo), so I may cut it short and scurry around doing laundry and trying on clothes and count that as a partial workout . I was thrilled to find a bunch of my skinny clothes, that now fit again, when going through my closet this weekend. I'm 6' tall and finding pants that are long enough is a real challenge, so reclaiming 3 pairs of jeans with long inseams was a major victory! Okay so I only reclaimed 2 but I'm close to fitting into the 3rd!!

I read a book over the weekend by Mark Bittman, called Food Matters. He's the guy who wrote How to Cook Everything Vegetarian and some other quick-to-fix cookbooks a while back. The new book is partially about curbing the effects of global warming and other benefits of eating a more local, more vegetarian diet, and also a diet plan where you eat the smart healthy foods we all know we should be eating (fruits, vegetables, nuts & seeds, beans and legumes - limiting simple carbohydrates and processed foods, not being taken-in by the healthy-sounding listings on food labels). His eating plan was very interesting though. He eats healthy all day and then has whatever he wants at dinner. That's the whole plan, he says he's lost weight and feels great etc. etc. While I wouldn't switch from JUDDD to his plan, I did find it very interesting. And one line of advice really stood out for me as something I can incorporate into JUDDD. He says "eat the healthy foods first". This really stuck with me as a strategy for my up days. When I'm having an up day meal, I tend to eat the less healthy foods first and then fill with salad or vegetables. I think I will definitely try it the other way around. Sounds simple, but it's something I'd never paused to think about or do; generally I'm so psyched by then for whatever normally forbidden food I'm having that I tear right into it and probably have more than I should. So there's something new for me to try

Oh excellent! And that sounds like a wonderful down day, and a fine plan for managing your up day.

They are together, and a little bit boring actually

That way I can't fall "off" anything and punish myself by bingeing or hopping to another diet. The psychological benefits of this woe for me has been truly life changing!
I agree 100%! For me it's just the right balance between "I want to make an effort toward losing weight (meaning being psyched up and wanting to do something about it) and "I need to enjoy living my life". I love this plan for me, and for my family who no longer have to suffer through whatever weird eating rules were in effect at any given time.

Reporting in: yesterday was first DD and it was fine! I did just fine. I usually use Stevia in my tea during the day but didn't yesterday. Sometimes I think it makes me have cravings. I am going to add it back in today and see if I notice anything.

Have a great day!

Kate

Good morning everyone! checkin in too....today is a DD for me and am looking forward to it; I think I get a little too carried away on the UD's since I eat with very little restrictions. DD's are always EAS Carb Advantage shake (2) and 6-8 GG Bran crackers...if I try to eat real food, I'll definitely get carried away and eat too much! Have a great day folks.
