Thyroid peeps, should we take our meds at night?

Should You Take Your Thyroid Medication at Night?

I take mine in the morning because I *will* forget it at night.

That's been rehashed for about 23 years now. I tried it...ACKK couldn't sleep well at ALL (but then again...are you asking if the person also take T3, or only if they take T4..cuz we KNOW T4 isn't 'active' in the bloodstream for about six WEEKS, while T3 is active IMMEDIATELY and only for four hours).

DH was taking one of his splits at night (Armour, 4 grains per day...) and at first it worked well, than about two weeks into it...he was dragging during the day. I'm SURE someone likes to take it at night.

(I thought I recognized that article...it's from quite a long time ago, and it is referring to T4 synthetic, not T3 or Armour, Westhroid, Naturethroid or Thyrolar.)

I was already having sleep problems before Armour (progesterone related). The doc specifically instructed morning and middle of the day doses to avoid sleep problems related to the thyroid med. I can see Pam's point though, that with T-4 only that would be a different can of worms.

I like taking one of my Armour doses at night, but I also take doses 3 other times during the day

Would make a big diff if I was taking perhaps ... um...1/2 grain or LESS as a split vs. taking one to two grains as my 'split'. But, yeah, DG, it IS about T4.
