Does anyone know if Amoxicillin can cause gasy heartburn and discomfort?

I have had a sore throat and my Doctor prescribed Amoxicillin on thursday and starting saturday I have had a gasy burning pain in my upper abdomen and is worse when I eat. Anyone know if antibotics cause this?

It doesn't seem to particularly cause heartburn type problems. I looked it up and common side effects are: nausea, vomiting, and easy fatigue. Loose bowel movements (diarrhea) also may occur.

Does your pill bottle tell you to take them on an empty stomach or to take them with food. Are you being careful to take them with plenty of fluid right away?

I know if I do something like popping one of those, and don't drink a lot of fluid right with it, I am in for a world of pain.

I hope you soon feel better. If you need more info, just talk to any pharmacist over the phone.

Silver its says to take with food if you need too. I've never had this before the amoxicillin

Well, it is killing bacteria in your body. Unfortunately it can tell the good stuff from the bad stuff so an upset GI tract would not surprise me. Maybe eat some yogurt??

Antiobiotics absolutely mess with your digestive system. For years now I prepare for taking antiobiotics by making sure I eat plain yogurt everyday. My doctor knows I am holistic in my approaches to health and nutrition so she found a product called Florastor which I could take with my recent bout with a viral infection. I had almost no stomach problems at all! But my blood sugars went crazy with the stress from the infection.

Antibiotics can cause belly symptoms. They kill the healthy bacteria in the gut allowing yeast to become overactive. Can cause lots of GI symptoms.
Taking probiotics such as acidophillus, bifudis etc for the time you take the antibiotics and for about 2 weeks later can help to re-populate the GI tract.
Yogurt is not as good because of the grams of carbs in the yogurt.Sugar feeds yeast.

Was at the doctor today and he said yes that amoxiillin could be the cause of my stomach pain or the virus moved to my stomach. He put me on florastar and protonix to heal my tummy up
