Does anyone know if Amoxicillin can cause gasy heartburn and discomfort?

I've had a sore throat and my doctor put me on Amoxicillin. Ive been taking it since Thursday and since Friday afternoon, I have a dull gasy heartburn kind of pain that comes and goes. Anyone know if the antibotics may cause it?

Any antibiotic can cause gastric upset. The antibiotic kills the healthy bacteria in your intestines as well as whatever germ bug you have. Docs usually recommend you eat yogurt while taking antibiotics to restore your gut flora as well as to prevent a yeast infection while on antibiotics.

Absolutely. It can feel like eating battery acid!

Amoxicillin caused me to have to later go to ER with bowel problems that wouldn't go away by themselves. They had to put me on another antibiotic to fix the first problem! It was terrible.... Oh, and a med to calm things down.

Yup....antibiotics do a number on your digestive system!!!!! and unfortunately, the "candida"left behind can multiply and start a host of other issues. Read up on it! But hang in there...stay really low carb and it will help you kill off that bad yeast left.

Was at the doctor today and he said yes that amoxiillin could be the cause of my stomach pain or the virus moved to my stomach. He put me on florastar and protonix to heal my tummy up

I couldnt eat......it felt like I was swallowing battery acid.......
