I wanted to give it a little bit to see if it was a fluke... but wanted to post my results so far:

I gave them up officially 05/06 after my neuro appt. I am stunned at how much better I feel. The headaches are about 90% resolved. For a person that was eating Advil like it was candy, 4 at a time, and nothing was stopping them, that is clearly amazing. Could it be that I was downing the Advil with Diet Coke was the problem.

Okay, even more amazing to me is this: 8 years of muscle twitches and jerks... palatal myoclonus, eye twitching, head tremors, lightening like jerks in my legs that even caused me to fall... they have all gone away. I feel scary to even post this. Like I am jinxing myself. But I wanted to do this in case anyone was teetering on whether or not to give it up. DO IT!

Have I missed my Diet Coke? TERRIBLY! But I know in time I will get over it. I have certainly eaten more fruit and I'm okay with that.

What I find myself really coming around to is this....eat for health, not vanity.

I FEEL so much better too!

Curiosity always gets the best of me, and I hate to throw out stuff i paid good money for.

i wonder what would happen if I dumped that entire case of aspartame poisoned pepsi on the gigantic ant colony i cannot get rid of in my garden (big fat black ants)?

I am afraid they come back as mutant ants tho LoL

I am going to do it now..

3 AND 4 days ago, I dumped boiling hot water mixed with bleach AND oxyclean all over it (it is in an area where I have not planted anything and has a weed barrier and gravel over top of that. it foamed up and was what I thought would be the end of it.

i went out yesterday and pulled back the fabric and those suckers were still there... rebuilding like nothing happened!

I am going to go dump that crap on it right now.

I'm so happy to report that since I stopped using Aspertame since saturday - I haven't had any more irregular heartbeat or heart palpitations or anxiety!

As I mentioned before, when I cut out the splenda a few weeks ago - this went away quite a bit. Couldn't understand why I was still getting the ihb/anxiety though until I watched the movie and saw all the symptoms from aspertame.

It's so nice not to worry about this unexplained anxiety and irregular heartbeat I had!

I have used packages of equal as ant poison.
I don't buy it though.....I take a packet if I order an iced tea somewhere. My daughter looked at my like I was nuts once..."Mom! You don't use equal"
I said "I do when I want to kill ants!"

LauraAnn.....congratulations on figuring your symptoms out girlie! I'm so glad you feel better.

Pretty soon, they'll start having anxiety attacks.

I swear, I'm going to mix-up all of my leftover Crystal Light, and pour it all around the foundation of the house.

My only fake sugar habit - I chewed 5-7 pieces of Orbit sugarless gum every day and every afternoon I had stomach cramps and bloating. I was out for a few days and noticed no more cramps and bloating. No gum for a few months now and no symptoms!

Even though I'm LC, I'll use a little regular sugar if I have to use sweetener (which is rare, like only two tbsp. a week for my Oopsie rolls).

If you're inclined to use a better whole sugar product, sucanat is your best choice. It carries enzymes, vitamins and minerals as well as fiber. Now that's a food product!

I had a bad reaction to Splenda but decided to cut out every artificial sweetener just to be safe. Interesting thread. I was having shortness of breath immediately after consuming sucralose, like an allergic reaction?

Cleo and LauraJean,

I've told my story a few times, but I had the same symptoms as you both, including aurua migraines, weakness, memory issues, brain fog, vision problems, electric shock feeling in my quad. MRI's all came back normal. The neuro wanted me to 'try' anti-seizure meds. I would not take them with out a specific diagnosis. After several months of seeking answers, I visited Dr. Mercola's office and, after describing my symptoms and my journey to get answers...The doctor (whose name was Dr. Gay, as Dr. Mercola doesn't see paitient) immediately said "its sounds like aspertame poison, how much diet soda do you drink?"!!!! I quit cold turkey that day and every day my symptoms got better. It was only 4-6 weeks before they totally disappeared. Being the skeptic that I am..a few months later, I drank a diet coke and the brain fog, memory and vision problemes were immediatey back. This was 3 years ago, and I'm just so thankful I found the source and have my life back. I often wonder how many people there are believing they have MS, or other conditions. I drank it for 25 years. It will catch up with everyone who drinks it often.. eventually.

"I often wonder how many people there are believing they have MS, or other conditions."

I feel exactly the same way about children with ADHD/ADD/Hyperactivity and depression who consume color (specifically RED)

My niece was 3 years old and her Doc was on the path towards prescribing her ritalin to control her outbursts of anger and hyperactivity that was occuring more and more often.

My sister discovered (through trial and error and fluke) that it was THOSE DAYS THAT SHE CONSUMED RED DYE that she would turn into a basket case.

She is now almost 15 and is still sensitive to color, although when she eats it it now manifests into depression and anger.

So beware folks.. there is a lot to be said about our poor Doctors who are given the onus to CURE diseases and symptoms of disease with harmful medications & scary diagnoses rather than given the tools to discover that it is very quite possible that these things can be cured by DIET ALONE.

Good grief, those poor children... imagine if their parents knew it was the kool-aid and color added to their jam that was turning them into little monsters and not a freak of natural body chemistry.

I also want to add that there is a LOT OF COLOR ADDED TO SODAS DIET OR NOT.

I am so glad you gave the stuff up, and am so sorry to hear you've had issues as a result of aspartame!

Yeah, THAT!

There are days when ds only feels like consuming fruit and chicken. ( we get our chickens from a farmer we know)

On these days, when he has no junk, no chemicals, no colors, etc, he is a prince. The days where he has soda, or frankenfoods, he turns into a beast. The reaction is VERY fast, too.

Not all ADHD cases are caused or worsened by foods. My son is one of those cases-we tried rotating elimations of foods and allergy testing to see if these were the cause. The same portion of the brain is affected by those suffering from Tourettes Syndrome-the front. He had extensive testing at age 3 and you could see the portion of the brain that wasn't functioning up to normal levels in his test results-thank goodness he is not learning impaired but needed Aderall to function on a day to day basis. He has been since switched to Concerta after he hit puberty and is doing well. I do agree many doctors today are not thorough in their testing of the brain and food allergies where ADHD is concerned and many children are misdiagnosed. Parents should research and learn as much as possible about what any doctor diagnoses their child with and speak up if you disagree or change doctors.

Fawn (love your name!) - my brother's 16.5 year old daughter suffered seizures between breastfeeding and about 4 years old. She would sorta go comatose and paralyzed with her eyes wide open. After extensive tests, she was diagnosed with some awful disease and they were told she would probably die before 10 years old. My SIL researched and put her on the Feingold diet and she never had another seizure. Both their children (son 14) were raised on this diet and now they don't even care for most foods that most people eat. About 2 years ago my brother let them start trying other foods and they would always say it made them feel weird.

I'm thinking a special diet helps only with kids who have food allergies/intolerances which then cause the side effects of ADD/ADHD.

I wish my kids had gluten intolerances or allergies which could be cleared up via diet. Life would be so much more simple.
