While I am playing with some sweeteners right now, I went years without, as I had done Carb Addicts, and they forbid artificial sweeteners, so the first time I did Atkins, it was going from CA -> Atkins, and I simply never added a sweetener. After you are weaned, you really don't crave it, and I can tell you that this time, since I AM using some sweeteners, I AM getting some sweet cravings. Feeding your sweet tooth keeps it active!

I just want to say that I've been off of aspartame since about last May, and the feeling in my face has returned.

Some people might say orlykthnxbye, but the stuff is scary! I was actually seeing a doctor for what appeared to be the beginning stages of MS... symptoms abated once aspartame use was halted.

So I'm about halfway through this documentry (thank you, netflix) and you all seriously should have seen my face when none other than Donald Rumsfeld popped up on the screen as CEO of Searle.

I actually looked up a symptoms list and I was mortified. When I started all of this "diet" stuff I had a ton of crazy things start happening. My vision has decreased, I can hardly see out of my right eye at all. I no longer drive at night. I've developed several phobias, most seriously the fear of bridges. I haven't drove over a bridge in two years. I've also had sporadic bouts of paranoia. (Zoloft has taken care of the paranoia)

Now get this... Yesterday I had no soda or any product with aspartame (not really on purpose, I just didn't), this afternoon I popped open a diet coke and within 10 minutes I was grouchy. I got snappy and snarky on the message boards and I was yelling at the kids. I had no reason for it and it was so out of the blue I was even questioning what the problem was.

WTH I would have never put all of this together if I hadn't seen that list of side effects.

I'm never touching that crap again - ever.

It's interesting how long it takes for things like this to get known - that aspartame is dangerous - I kind of knew that back when I was a teenager because whenever I ate or drank ANYTHING with that in it - I would get horrible headaches bordering on migraines and feel awful for the rest of that day until I could sleep it off or it metabolized out of my body.
