Im pretty sure putting oil in my mouth for 15-20 minutes a day would ruin my appetite.
I think brushing my teeth does the same thing. I hate eating after I have brushed so if I brush early and often I wont eat so much. Chewing gum also helps me keep out unwanted foods lol ![]() |

Okay dokey, sounds like I won`t be buying any more canola oil. It`s back to olive oil and whatever for baking (one of the ones you said anyway). Boy we sure do learn a bunch of stuff we would never know here. Than`ks a bunch. S

Another question: has anyone noticed a marked reduction in appetite? It's lunchtime and I am not hungry AT ALL. (Very unusual for me, and my diet has not changed at all, just the oil pulling.)

Thank you angela!!!!
I'm really excited to make this. I am on day 2 of oil pulling for a variety of reasons. I'm using coconut and already seeing a whiter smile! This is a fun thread.......I'm enjoying all of your input! |

I tried it last night with EVOO. I love to try holistic remedies...this is about as holistic as it gets. I thought it would be gross...but nope. It was doable... I cleaned house, did laundry while I was swishing...set a timer for it.

As far as the tooth brushing goes, I just found a bar soap with the same basic ingredients (with no added glycerin) as the tooth soap that costs almost 20 bucks (Dr. Bronner's tea tree)
Here's the ingredient list for the product marketed as tooth soap: Ingredients are: Specially formulated soap made from saponified coconut, palm, and olive oils and essential oil. NO added glycerin, sweeteners, silicates (sand), fluoride, dyes, stabilizers or other materials that can damage teeth. Three dollars at my HFS ![]() |

thats it!! ive been following this thread for a while now, and though the initial thought of swallowing/gagging on the oil put me off, im definitely going to try it. ive got gum issues and my teeth arent as pearly white as id like them to be, so why not give it a shot?
ive only got olive oil now but ive read a couple of posts where people have used that so ill give it the ol' college try. |

I have never heard of this before, but I think that you have me convinced to try it! Unfortunately I don't have coconut oil with me yet (which is something that I'm very interested in adding to my diet after learning so much about it), but I do have olive oil and sesame oil. I think that I'll try sesame tomorrow and see how it works for me.
I'm so glad that telemetry nurse suggested that I check out this site for support and information! Thanks! Barb |

so what kind of soap can i buy to brush my teeth with???
i am starting the op right now. to whiten my teeth, curb appetite, and especially help with my gum disease. i've had to get root scaling and planning and i'm not sure yet if i don't have to have gum surgery. so you know i'm hoping this "cures" my problem. anyway, i really want to start brushing w/ the soap if it's better than toothpaste. don't want to make any of my own though. |

Brandi - make sure you're getting real soap with essential oils - not fragrance oils. Most of the commercial soap has a lot of stuff in it - synthetic detergents, hardeners and fragrances.
If you go to your health food store, you should be able to find handcrafted essential oil soaps. If you look at the label of a handcrafted soap, you should see something like this: Saponified oils of coconut, olive, palm with essential oils of peppermint and orange. A commercial detergent bar will read like this: sodium cocoyl isethionate, stearic acid, coconut acid, sodium tallowate, water, sodium isethionate, sodium stearate, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium cocoate or palm kernelate, fragrance, sodium chloride, tetrasodium EDTA, trisodium etidronate, BHT, titanium dioxide and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate

Ok, did use 1 tsp olive oil this morning. Only kept it in my mouth 10 mins. After 1 1/2 mins. it did thin out quite a bit and not be so thick. So that was a good thing. I'd have to work up to a tbsp! And I want to try coconut oil. Does coconut oil taste like coconut? Or more of a bland taste?? I plan to continue this for gum problems and whiteness.. |
