Weird patchy dry skin??

It started as just red patches that didn't feel any different from the skin around them but over the weeks the patches have become rougher and a little itchy. They're only on my chest, and one or two on my face (these I think are a local irritation to makeup). They don't seem to be spreading to other parts of my body and the patches don't seem to be getting bigger. There are maybe a dozen of them ranging from the size of a pea to the size of a fingerprint. (is that enough detail for ya? ) I'm applying moisturizer but it doesn't seem to be helping.

I'm wondering if anyone had or has this and if it's related in some way to the diet. I take a multivitamin. I drink a lot of water but maybe not enough. Still, I'm drinking more than I ever have. Hoping there's a simple explanation.

Is there a visit to the dermatologist in my future??

Wow, this sounds familar. I had the same problem for several years. Blamed it on everything, laundry soap, allergies, the weather.

Not completely sure what it was, but it pretty much cleared up after I "deyeasted". I basically did it by accident last year by doing the Stillmans diet, cutting out cheese, vinegar etc.. I know there are some other threads on this subject and there are suppliments that help clear up yeast infections. Hopefully, some one will have more info. If it is a yeast problem, that is.

It might be yeast, but I used to get little circular patches of dry, itchy skin on my arms every winter. I started moisturizing every day, and it's gone. ???

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to pull out DANDR and reread the yeast chapter. Could be simply dry skin but it's weird that it's just on my chest.

Sounds a lot like Execma... I have this and no matter what kind of moisturizer you use it does not go away. I went to the Dr. and showed him and he gave me some creme to use every day and voila it is gone... Might suggest that to the Dr. if you go. Good luck!

I get these all the time. It used to be restricted to a spot on my arm and a particular spot on my leg. Now they seem to be branching out to other leg spots and even one on my back. Mine seem to be related to the sun and heat and no amount of body cream will keep them away. However they're very easily controlled with some steroid cream I get from the doctor. Your internist can probably handle it, but if not he or she will refer you to a dermatologist. However... maybe I should check out the yeast threads too.

Tinea Versicolor, it's a yeast infection. Here's a link. It can also be a sign of a low functioning immune system.

I ahd tinea versicolor in my twenty's and it sounds like what you have.

The dermatologist gave me tinver lotion to apply and I also used a 2% salicylic acid astringent or soap.

It has never recurred.

Thanks for the replies! Does the tinea versicolor come from a systemic infection or is it something I caught somewhere (if it's that, and it does sound like it's that). I did the spit test this morning and I had lovely dangly things in there (YUCK). I'm looking into deyeasting (and scrubbing better in the shower!)

Don't scrub in the shower, that's not going to help. Try taking a good probiotic like Primal Defense by Garden of Life, and wash the affected areas with a dandruff shampoo like nizoral.

The yeast normally lives on your skin, a weakened immune system (which could be caused by candida) allows the yeast to grow.

Hi....I don't mean to scare you but wanted to let you know that this can be related to Lupus. Especially being that sun or heat brings them out. There is a mild type of lupus that just affects the skin.

Do you have canker sores in your mouth, are you anemic, achy or feverish at all?
