My college jeans - sizing ain't what it used to be!
...thanks to vanity sizing.
We all know this intellectually, but we don't really want to admit it. I now seem to wear 8's and 6's in jeans, even a couple 4's. Yay me, right? I was so thrilled to get into my college jeans from around 1980... then I looked at the size, which I should have remembered: size 10!!! Here's an interesting read on what's happened to sizes, from even before our time. And it also goes into detail about how every store's sizing is different. No wonder shopping takes hours. And no wonder those "half their size" ladies in People always seem to be getting into sizes that don't make sense to anyone over 40! http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/25/bu...QJ6kMStNE7ZX/Q |
I remember back in the 80s, a size 8 or 10 was what the models I looked up to wore. I was a 10 and felt great! Now, that same size 10 is considered huge. You'd be called a cow. And the funny thing about it is, all I want to be is a size 10.

The sizing thing used to frustrate me, but in the end I decided it doesn't really matter what the tag says as long as I look/weigh the same in the the old size as I would in the new vanity size. Another thing as far as jeans are concerned none of my "old" jeans were stretch with spandex.
