newbie to HCG with hashimotos/hypothyroid

hello all!
I've been a lurker on this forum for years, since I used Atkins to lose about 20 lbs before my wedding in 2006.
I maintained my ideal weight until 2011, when I suddenly gained about 35lbs in the space of two months. turns out it was hashimotos hypothyroidism. I had pretty much every other symptom you could imagine - painful joints, hair loss, dry skin, racing heart, chest pain, carpal tunnel, insomnia, loss of libido, depression, brain fog, high triglycerides and blood sugar, the list goes on. Thankfully, within 6 months of treatment on a Euthirox (like Synthroid), the majority of these issues went away with the exception of low energy and the weight problems. The last year and a half, I've been on Atkins, South beach, WW(gained 6 lbs in a month!), calorie counting, carb counting, etc. Nothing is working. Atkins is the best, but still barely losing at 2 or 3 lbs a months with 7+ hours of exercise a week. I've since put on another 10lbs or so since diagnosis.
soooooooooo, i'm going to try HCG. My mom mentioned it to me before, but I assumed it would mess with my thyroid and blew it off without looking into it. However, it came up again and I spent the last week researching it, and it really seems that people have had amazing results.
The good thing for me is I live in Mexico, where I can get it over the counter. So i've decided that I'm heading to a pharmacy tomorrow and I'm giving this a go. I'm 33, hoping to lose about 45 or 50lbs. I'm 5'4" and am at 185 now, and I'd love to get to 135. I really want to lose it soon, as my husband and I would like to try to get pregnant in the next year.

I'd love to hear any tips/comments/support and if anybody else is starting HCG soon and needs a buddy. Particularly others with thyroid issues. My intention is to try to do the injections, though I"m a bit confused about how to actually do the mix. I'm hoping the pharmacy can help me there.

I"m excited at the prospect of fitting into the 85% if the clothes hanging in my closet that no longer fit!!

Also, do you all start at 150iu or more? Do you exercise?

thanks!

I too am hypothyroid. I started the 800 calorie Hcg protocol on October 27th and am down 47 pounds in that time (just over 3 months), for a total of 88 pounds in the past 26 months. Hcg has been a blessing and the only plan that has worked for me in years. In 2002/2003 I lost over 100 pounds on Atkins and it worked wonders for me prior to becoming hypo about 5 years ago, then after a my second pregnancy and under active thyroid I put on almost the entire 100 pounds. I tried Atkins faithfully only to lose initial water weight and then nothing for months. On hcg I am finally able to lose the pounds again and even more amazing is the amount of inches I have lost. In about 15/16 weeks I have gone from a very tight 16 to a lose 12 and even some 10's! It's amazing and I wish I would have found this way of life much sooner!!

Randi, that's great! Very inspiring. I'm curious - what type of HCG did you use? Drops, injections? Any side-effects for your thyroid?
i'm heading to the pharmacy today!

I am hypothyroid and I am doing well on the HCG (RX for me). I stay on my medications and all has been going well with the weight loss.

well, i got the HCG today. (brand name Choragon). It came with three vials of 5000iu
I still need to get the bacteriostatic water tomorrow though.

A couple questions, if I can buy a 10ml vial of water, the do I still need another mixing vial, or can i just put the HCG back into the water vial after I've mixed it? I'm thinking to start out at 175iu a day.

Also, I noticed the package of Choragon says it's to be used intramuscularly. Does this mean no injections in the stomach?

Also, any thoughts about doing the Rx HCG sublingual? Is it as effective? I'm not worried about doing injections, but more about finding the bac water and mixing vials here in Mexico and doing it properly... I got a bunch of insulin needles already, but they were pretty cheap so I'm not worried if I don't use them.

-I would buy another vial to mix, a larger one, because it all won't fit in a 10ml vial with the volume of the hCG added.

I'm thinking to start out at 175iu a day.[/B]
- I wouldn't start out this high. Most people inject 125 and some clinics recommend 150 to start but 175 is pretty high. More is actually NOT better with hCG. It can backfire and make you more hungry.

- Not sure about this one. I've only done the subq injections.

Hope that helps.

As an aside, I am also hypothyroid and hypoadrenal. I've lost 70 pounds on h/hCG and kept it off. I am on T3 (Cynomel) for thyroid and Hydrocortisone for adrenals and it did not impact my thyroid treatment.

thanks! 70 pounds is really fantastic Shelbyla - you must be proud!

well, it turns out I could not get bacterisostatic water or bacteriostatic sodium chloride anywhere here in Mexico Couldn't find empty vials either. So, I'm doing sublingual for now at 166iu per dose (2 per day) which seems to be the standard. Meanwhile, I"ll keep trying to figure out how to get it here..
If this works well and I do a next round, I'll probably have someone bring me some bacteriostatic water from the US.
