Mixing Veggies in P2? Also a Stevia Question...

So I know the protocol says that you can have just 2 veggies a day and that you shouldn't mix them but I'm just wondering...

I know some people do mix them and I'm curious what you all think about how it really effects your losses?

First round I never mixed and I only had 2 kinds at 2 separate times of day.

Second time I may have mixed a little but that round was a mess.

So I'm wondering, is it really that big of a deal if I have say 3 or 4 different types of allowed veggies in the day so long as it doesn't equal more than we are allowed to have or go over in calories?

i.e. A little bit of chopped onion in something I'm cooking, a hand ful of spinach in my strawberry smoothie, a few stalks of celery when I feel hungry. And then one true serving of one of these things or even another veggie.

Is that a total no no? I mean all of those things above are such a small amount of what we are allowed that it's much lower in calories than what we are allowed to have anyway.

And if this IS ok, then by that same logic could I also do something like half my portion of say spinach and then half my portion of cabbage and half my portion of asaparagus and then half my portion of celery and eat 4 different veggies in a day so long as they all are the right amounts??

Doing this is my preferred way but if it's going to cause me a lot of trouble I won't do it.

Another question is about Stevia - I think I've asked this before but can too much stevia cause issues with losing or cause stalls?

I feel like I have SOOO much stevia on this diet. I use it in my smoothie, in my tea, (several cups a day) in my coffee... I probably have 5-10 packets a day some times. Could this cause me trouble?

I've never known stevia to stall anyone. Maltitol will though. Truvia & erythritol are generally recognized as good as well. Watch out for granular Splenda- it contains maltodextrin as a filler and that is sugar- 1 gram per packet. I love my EZ-Sweetz though- it's liquid Splenda and carb free.

I've mixed veggies for many many rounds now. I lost better, not worse. Most people people lose better when they drop the grissini. Some people lose better without a fruit or only apples and strawberries, only strawberries or no fruit at all. Generally people who don't eat these add in a bit more meat and veggie but not more than 500 calories per day.

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much for the response.

I use Truvia Packets and also Flavored Liquid Stevia. I hope it doesn't cause issues b/c I use A LOT of it.

I am starting to think mixing veggies really is ok because I did it somewhat yesterday and was down .8 today!?!?

I don't eat the melba/ grissini at all b/c I think it may cause more carb cravings. I did have it in my last round and that round was all a mess!

I do still have my fruits but most days I do Strawberries and Grapefruit. Apple and orange a couple of times a week.

I have often wondered if upping my protein and fat would be better rather than worse but I'm so scared to stray too much from protocol. I sometimes will give my self a few oz more of a protein and not stress it though. I mean, if I am at 600 calories instead of 500 is that seriously going to make me not lose? If so, that's nuts.

reddy--how are you doing? Are you doing some adjustments to the protocol? I know that when Dr Oz had hcg on his show he really was pushing for the one plan that upped calories. The lady he had on (I think it was Dr Rachel) who does hcg for her clients on an 800 calorie plan and sometimes even goes up to 1000. She ups the protein for them. You can have egg whites for breakfast if you feel you need more protein. As for fat---NO UPPING at all. This is still a low fat plan. She also includes other veggies than Dr S allowed for. I don't think you will break too much if you want to go up to 4 oz of protein. The reason for the no mixing of veggies was because he wanted to treat this as sort of an elimination diet and by not mixing veggies you can see if you react to something. Eating a bowl ful of veggies and reacting to them as opposed to eating one and knowing what you are reacting to.....very different! So again, I think you are OK to mix, but not overdo on the calories. As far as sweeteners, you can tell when you have had enough or are sensitive to the ones you use. I use more than I should be too. But I am OK with it.

Now, I think you know me well enough to know I do NOT advocate veering at all from protocol. But who am I to tell anyone what to do when I go off plan myself???? And we are not talking about having cauliflower for a veggie either I am talking about hard core off plan eating

To be honest, I have been a tiny bit Rogue this time around. After the talk about the Dr. Oz show I decided to up my protein a bit. Not by much, maybe an oz or so is all. I am not actually counting my calories but If I had to guess I'd say most days I average around 650 or so. Maybe even more some days?

I have been mixing veggies a bit too in that I'm adding chopped onions to things I cook without any real problem and I'm not really counting them since the amount is so small. I have also had half a spinach portion and half asparagus a couple of times to count as ONE veggie serving. It all equals out the same calorie wise and like you said, the reason for mixing really wasn't related to losses so If I can do it, I will.

I've been doing really well this round - Down about 10lbs in 12 VLCDs so what I"m doing seems to be working ok for me!

In thinking this over, I now remember the reason for no mixing. Dr Simeons believed it was easier on the digestion to have just the one veggie at a time. So that is what I do! Goes along the lines of a detox diet---which I so need right now. But I do think that a bit of onion is OK along with tomatoes or some tomato is OK with your salad.

I guess it's the kind of thing where generally speaking better safe than sorry but if ou experiment as I did and still have good results then hey why not.

I have also been using more ff milk than the allowed amount. Not bold enough to try hnh but I use about 3x the alloyed amount.

Still seeing good losses. (Down another .6 today!)

This may be my best round yet!
