Blender recommendations wanted
 

Hey ! A little of the beaten path here.... I"m on P2 and do not make smoothies at this point, but may add some in later- I do have a Yonanas "machine" and use that with frozen strawberries on P2:)

What is a good all around blender fro smoothies ? I'm looking for a family friendly one for milk shakes, frozen drinks, and smoothies....

Any suggestions ???

The gold standard of blender awesomeness is the mighty Blendtec.

...Yeah... The Blendtec is a bit much. I've owned cars that cost less. But if you shop around you can find a deal. Half retail and less on eBay.

My neighbour sells vitamix, and I will probably by one from her this year but that is a serious investment. All in, probably $600+.

Mojo, when I get out of bed I'll the name of my current blender....it's been very good.

Since I've been using immersions, I never get out the old warhorse.

My latest is the stainless Cuisinart.

They have then at Costco for $20!! which is a really good deal.

They run about 30 bucks elsewhere.

I checked, our current one is an entry level Sunbeam. I believe it was originally around $50. The performance is good for the price. I do plan on upgrading to a more serious machine for the summer smoothie season.

I recently bought a highly rated Oster that was around $150 and I don't like it at all. I was really disappointed in it especially for the price point. I've had $50 blenders that were much better.

Would have to look up the model but I wouldn't recommend it. Curious to see what others recommend that doesn't cost $400 +

Looks awesome- so does the Vitamix !!!!!! Ebay is a good idea ! Not sure that I want to go into the 400-600 range until I see how much we actually use it, though.... love the "car comment" :)

I seen the vitamix commercials- looks great - I'll wait for your summer reviews and live vicariously LOL :)

I've never used an immersion blender- might be interesting !

I make spinach smoothies all the time on P2. I was using my Ninja and still was getting spinach chunks. One of my rewards for sticking to P2 so well and losing the weight was getting a Vitamix. It makes the spinach smoothie so smooth. I only wish I could have gotten it sooner. The best hands down :up:

Oh, and I see you want family friendly. My kids (ages 16, 13, 11 and 7) use it to make ice cream and their own smoothies. The older ones can use it and love it too! Everyone enjoys the goodies!

Mine was less than $400 and with qvc got it on easy pay :up: so the payments were broken up monthly. Only way I could afford one. And it gave me a chance to test drive it for a month to decide if it were for me. It was and I love it :love:

Use it as a reward, or even an incentive to continue on a round. I am so happy with my purchase! qvc has them on all the time, again easy pay and the chance to try it out for 30 days so if you don't like it you can return it. And the reviews---everyone who uses it loves it.

I have one and never use it. I don't like it. I tried it once in my bowl and it took off the outer coating :eek: no more for me.

Interesting because the Ninja was on my list- I might have to try out the Vitamix- a reward is a good idea :) Also a perk is that if we don't like it, as you said- I can send it back !

When I do use ice- (ok- I'm thinking frozen drinks in the summerhttp://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/images/smilies/yummy_2011.gif- hopefully when I'm really close to goal!) I hate it when the ice doesn't "blend" and the drinks are grainy/icy...

Lots to think about- I had been considering the Ninja, but perhaps not !

I use my Vitamix just about every day. I make so many things, it's hard to know where to start; peanut butter, coconut butter, almond milk, smoothies, ice cream, soups. You name it and I've probably made it in the Vitamix. It does an excellent job every time.

When I'm low carbing it, I make sugar-free ice cream or milk shakes almost every day. It's make a low carb lifestyle totally doable. I like them so much that I never buy store bought ice cream anymore.

I save a lot of money and eat healthier because of it. If you wait for Costco to have a Vitamix roadshow, you can get them there for $379.00

I used a vitamix when I stayed with a friend 2 weeks ago and that thing is AMAZING!

Vitamix. I have broken a few blenders in my day blending ice. The vitamix could blend concrete, I think. Save money in the long run.

All this Vitamix talk it me excited. I'm ordering one today. I think it will help with P3. I can't resist. I think it will help me through P3 and P4!

booty--it can help in P2 as well!! I have made the strawberry lemonade. But that is more of a summertime treat. Put in your strawberries, a whole lemon, sweetener and some water/ice. Blend and enjoy! You can also shave ice in it and put some Davinci's syrup on it for an icy treat--again good for when it is hot outside. Not necessarily today LOL.

Oh man, did you say shaved ice? My boyfriend is crazy about shaved ice desserts, Japanese style with red bean paste and matcha syrup. He's going to be so excited when I tell him that. We have this old Japanese ice shaver, with a crank. It takes forever and you have I freeze a block of ice in a specific shape to use it. This will make his whole day.

can you tell me which model you all are using? I see so many different ones.

For a reasonably priced one that works really well is the nutribullet. Much more powerful than the magic bullet.


I have a vitamix. When we are in a rush, we use the nutribullet.

Nothing wrong with spinach, water and an apple smoothie. I throw in a slivers of ginger. You can sweeten with stevia if you'd like. Or, if you include cottage cheese you can use along with some water.

Apple sauce in the vitamix is great, too. The vitamix will even heat it up if you'd like.

Ugh. I want a vitamix now! I am kicking myself for wasting $150 on a blender I don't even like now...

reddy, if your not happy with your blender, return it. That's what I would do

I also use my Vitamix for p2 foods. I make strawberry lemonade just like Dawn. There's also a p2 milkshake using spinach, cottage cheese, strawberries. It's surprisingly good. I also made a cheesecake using cottage cheese in the Vitamix. It comes out silky smooth.

I wish there were some way I could find out when the US Costco in Bellingham has the Vitamix travelling road show. It's $499 when they do it here.. I'd totally drive down just to get one to save $120!!

I see that Costco is offering Vitamix 6300 online. That costs 499, but also includes the dry blade container for making your own grains. If you don't want to fork out for the grain container, wait for the road show to come.

Jeanny, they are doing demos at Whole foods on Robson until Sunday. I'm not sure if they go that cheap there. My neighbour does the demos.

I'm going to pick mine up tomorrow. :)
