Possible to have success WITHOUT changing beauty products?

Hi everyone!

I'm just starting hcg again. I tried once before, but my round ended up being a miserable failure and I gained a large amount of weight immediately after going off the drops/plan.

One thing that put me over the edge and made P2 just too much for me to handle was having to discontinue use of all of my usual lotions, makeup, lip gloss, etc. By the 2nd week, my skin was dry, my hair was a mess and my lips were cracked and peeling. No amount of supposedly great P2 approved products helped. I spent so much money on P2 approved lotions, shampoos, lip products and makeup, but nothing worked for me.

I was really hungry on the drops (Omni) and pellets (Intermountain), but I think how gross and ugly I felt without without my normal toiletries is what really made me give up. It kind of felt like too many unpleasant changes at once. It seemed kind of ridiculous to have to have dry skin and chapped lips, just to lose weight.

So, here I am on VLCD 1. I used all of my normal products this morning. I'm hoping that there are people in this community that have had success with only changing their food and water intake, but still using their usual body and face products.

Anyone?

Thank you, in advance!

I used most of my products during hcg injections, although my moisturizer is coconut oil which is on the "approved" list from my clinic (I guess it functions like baby oil does). I personally believe the idea of the body absorbing oil calories through the skin is ludicrous in 2012. Just bad science. If it were so, every lotion would need FDA approval. You could rub a steak on someone in a coma and they'd be "fed." We've learned some things since Simeon's time.

By the way, the internist who runs my clinic confided in me she believes the lotion thing is bogus, too, even though they stick with Simeon's recommendations officially.

In my opinion, you have nothing to worry about.

Exactly what she said!!! I have not changed anything, including mint toothpaste. I am nearing 100 pounds lost so it works for me

Buttah,

Your comment about rubbing steak on a comatose person cracked me up! Thanks, I needed that!

So, for those of you who are still using your usual beauty products, do you think that the plan is still working exactly as it is supposed to, as far as resetting your hypothalomus, metabolism, etc.? I would expect that people would still lose weight if they are only eating 500 calories of good foods, especially if they have a lot to lose. But, what about all the other things that the plan is supposed to accomplish, like only losing fat and not muscle?

I'm worried about muscle loss because I seemed to lose a lot of muscle the last time that I tried this. By the 3rd week, my body was looking much flabbier than when I started and even though I lost weight, I didn't lose many inches at all. My clothes only got looser in the waist area because my stomach was so empty compared to when I was eating lots of food. So, I am worried about that happening again. When I quickly gained all of the weight back (and then some!), I gained it all as fat. So, my body actually looks a lot worse than before I ever started HCG. Plus, my body's set point seems to have gone up a few pounds. This is why I am worried about straying from the plan in any way. I need my beauty products, though! Especially in winter!

I agree about the idea of gaining weight by absorbing lotion or makeup through the skin seeming ridiculous! It just doesn't make sense to me, but I have read many testimonials from people who were really affected by lotions. I don't know what to believe, but I really want this to work. I need it to work!

I didn't change a thing. Did three rounds, starting in July of 2011, concluding in March of 2012. Lost 50 pounds total.

My weight this morning was 1.5 pounds below my LDW. I firmly believe that I am at my new "normal" weight and it has been reset.

But YMMV.

I gave up my "normal" products in my first round and looked as bad as I felt. Lost well though. For my 3 subsequent rounds I used my regular, full fat, products, including plenty of lotion, and lost just as well. Stabilizing hasn't been easy for me after any of my rounds, so I'd say the lotions had no impact whatsoever on my rounds. This time a"round" I'm working hard on stabilizing and doing fine. I'm settling around LDW+3 for now, which is fine for me.

YMMV, ya' gotta' do what works best for you .

Thank you!

Thank you all for your responses. They give me hope that maybe I can do this a little easier than the last time I tried!

I use a hand held fat monitor, and it showed that I lost about 16 lbs of fat in my 17 lbs. And now in my first week of P4, stabilization (while hard, but of course it is!), has been fine. Does that help?

Randi,

Great job! Congrats on the loss! I'm glad that your products aren't stalling you.
Mine don't seem to be, so far. I'm only on VLCD 4, though and I'm using my products sparingly. I did switch to Spry cinnamon toothpaste because it's yummy and I guess mint is a no-no with hhcg.

I am by no means an expert at hcg, but I broke the rules! I didn't change any hair products and didn't even know about the mint thing and lost 45lbs my first round. The only thing I did change was I stopped using my tinted moisturizer and used my oil free moisturizer with Pur Minerals makeup. I also bought oil free hand cream. I have long hair and must use oil to keep the ends healthy and did that all through my round. I also had my hair colored during the round with conditioning treatments. I did fine. Don't worry about it is my advice

Happy losing!

IM A LURKER in these threads.

I concur, I never changed anything when I first did HCG and I lost 18 lbs in about 2 weeks .

My weight loss is at a plateau so Im back on the HHCG wagon.

I didn't change anything. I got my hair colored, use my regular conditioner, and gel soap, as well as all my makeup products. I lost 36 pounds in 42 days.

Seems everyone who replied tends to agree, even those who tried it without at first. That is good enough for me! I also wondered at first whether I should or shouldn't, but the weight came off fast enough so I quit thinking about it.

Today is my second load day and I am so glad to read this thread. I often use coconut oil as a moisturizer. I had planned to do "no poo" as much as possible and eliminate certain items as much as I could- but glad to hear many had no issues. I am also encouraged to hear so many had such great losses. I am doing 40 days of injections and paid almost $800 through a naturopathic doctor (this includes before and after blood work, measurements, all supplies and appts) so if I lose less than 40 I will be disappointed. Congrats to all of you for your effort and successes. Is it difficult to maintain the 500 calories or does the hcg really help curb your appetite?

Emjay,

I did Rx shots through a clinic for my first round too and had great success. I think I was a little hungry the first few days, but it goes away and then I was really not hungry at all the rest of the round. So no, maintaining the 500 calories was not difficult. Good luck to you!
