Quick question bc I'm running to store
Want to try this recipe :
"I cooked cabbage in chicken broth, tsp of garlic, & dash of ginger. After the cabbage was cooked to my liking I added bragg's (or soy sauce) and hot sauce to taste. Added shrimp. Next time I'll try chicken. It tasted like ramen!" Curious, I saw this on page 9 and I wondered if someone could help elaborate on how to do it? Do you buy pre-shredded cabbage or shred it yourself? Do you boil it in the broth? How much hot sauce? Is it really good? Tia Last edited by Reddy; 09-06-2012 at 09:01 AM.. |

I buy reduced sodium broth. I do read labels but they give me a headache. You can just buy what you are comfortable buying. I usually buy what is on sale.
I buy shredded cabbage on plan. I am lazy and don't want to do a lot of work. I cook for my family of 6--cooking for "just me" in addition to cooking for them, is just not worth it to me. The directions say to cook it in the broth, so I would do so! I always use hot sauce "to taste". If you like it spicy--use more, if you like it not spicy, use less. Always use those things to taste. And finally, have not tried it so I don't know if it is good or not.

Thank you dawn! I think I'll buy beef broth bc at lower in calories and has dextrose as last ingredient where chick broth has it as second.
Trying this tonight! |

I don't make exactly that recipe, but I have cooked cabbage in broth many times and added different spices.
Buy chicken broth that has no added sugar or fat - read the label. It should only be about 5-10 cals a cup, or something like that. You can get organic if you'd like. I buy pre-shredded but that's because I'm lazy..you can obviously chop cabbage yourself if you want to. You don't need to boil it in broth - just use enough to cover the bottom of the pan and add as much as you want if you want to make a sauce or have some extra liquid. If you're trying to go for a ramen-type thing, I'd use a big skillet and start with a half inch of broth or so to have some extra liquid. If you want some spice, start with a few dashes of hot sauce and go from there. I don't think the person that posted this recipe really knows their exact measurements, so just put everything in to your liking. You're supposed to experiment I haven't made this, but I don't think this person would have posted it if they didn't think it was really good ![]()

Ok first off thank you Dawn and Cocoa so much for your help here.
I am so glad I saw your post cocoa about doing it in a skillet with just a small amount of broth b/c I was about to cook it in a pot with a lot of broth. It came out SO good. I'm so excited to have this recipe in my P2 arsenal b/c it's super easy and delicious and filling. If you haven't tried it you should. I really hope I'm not one of those who has problems with Cabbage b/c I want to be able to eat this. I never had any broth in R1 so I hope that doesn't cause me problems. I bought FF Low Sodium Beef Broth (College Inn brand) Here's how I made it. I put a little bit of broth in a large skillet, a bit of minced garlic and then put in shredded cabbage. I used a bit of powdered ginger, and some salt. I let it simmer in the skillet, and added a bit of broth as it cooked. Cooked it for about 5 minutes on med heat then simmered it on Low for about 5 more minutes or so. Maybe a little less time. It SMELLED like Ramen and then I tasted it and it actually tasted like it too! I should have left it but decided to add a few dashes of Tobasco but since I don't care for spicy I will omit that next time b/c it gave it a bit too much heat for me and sort of changed it from tasting like Ramen. But Man it was good and I"m excited about this recipe! |

I'm so glad it worked out! I'll have to try that spice combo when I get back into P2. I might use Chinese Five-Spice since I have that on hand. Thanks

I have that brand of broth as well. My publix has it on buy one get one free and I buy both the chicken and beef broth. I love them. I just used Butterball fat free reduced sodium chicken broth for my lunch. I bought that brand on sale at Walgreen's one week. I had the whole can which is only 20 calories and used my egg servings (1 whole + 3 whites) to make egg drop soup. That could have the cabbage added to it, but I just like it plain like I had it. I added fresh garlic and onion powder and cayenne pepper. Yum! I just won't have a veggie for my lunch. I told you I hated them LOL. Anyway, another winner!

This is so good. Replace soy with Braggs, and Organic Dijon mustard instead of "brown." I added a bit of Stevia for a honey mustard vibe. You can use broth instead of the water, too. I've had it three times already:

So happy to have Cabbage as an option now. I tried to steam it last round and I sprayed with Braggs but it just wasn't good. |

I just had it again! Added some ginger and onions (no Stevia this time)... so so so so good. And big.
I need recipes that involve one pot, veggies and protein together. Can't cope any other way. |

I love the P2 recipes with cabbage but unfortunately, unless I eat just a small serving ( say .5 cup, I gain from it.
I did buy bagged cabbage before and my stomach bloated up very tight and painful. I was told it was due to chemicals sprayed on it too make it last longer. So I have to buy unbagged. I also try to use home made broth. I make a lot of it and freeze it in zip lock bags. The single servings are great for cooking P2 chicken or shrimp. I do like the cabbage very much. Going to try raw kale soon on P2 too see how I do. It is in the cabbage family. |

Well, I've had great losses every day (1 lb again today, don't know if I posted it here) and I've had cabbage nearly every single day. I like how filling it is - makes an hcg meal seem like a normal meal.
