Bullet-proof Coffee?

Anyone here try bullet-proof coffee. I'm having a huge stall on hcg so I did an Atkins fat fast yesterday (I know it's rogue) and started the day with bullet-proof coffee. I know it sounds gross, but it actually is delicious IMHO. It kept my hunger satisfied for a long time too.

I have yet to try it because I do not do any caffeine but on another site I visit, a lot of P2 and P3 folks use it with great success

me either where do you get it?

I googled it... interesting.

When I tell friends (and pretty much anyone who asks) that I eat half my calories from healthy fats, one of the most common questions after “Why?” is “How?”

I start the average day with a cup of Bulletproof coffee. I learned about the power of butter at 18,000 feet elevation near Mt. Kailash in Tibet when I staggered into a guest house from the -10 degree weather and was literally rejuvenated by a creamy cup of yak butter tea.

It was John Patrick Henry’s 2nd cousin’s boyfriend Juan Valdez who said, “Give me high-end coffee or give me death.” That’s because toxins in cheap coffee (Starbucks included) will steal your mental edge and actually make you weak, but clean coffee actually fights cancer and provides antioxidants.

So I buy the best coffee there is, brew it, and then I blend unsalted grass-fed butter into it. Yes, butter. All the benefits of healthy milk fat with none of the damaging denatured casein proteins found in cream. It makes for the creamiest, most satisfying cup of coffee you’ve ever had. It will keep you satisfied with level energy for 6 hours if you need it. And because I’m having it for breakfast, I’m programming my body to burn fat for energy all day long!

Recipe
Start with 500 ml (2 mugs) of black coffee brewed with mold-free beans (important)
Add 2 Tbs (or more, I prefer 80 grams, about 2/3 of a standard stick of butter) of Kerry Gold or other UNSALTED grass-fed butter
Add 30 grams of MCT oil for max energy, weight loss and brain function (optional if you have none)
Blend with a pre-heated hand blender, Magic Bullet, or (best) counter top blender until there is a creamy head of foam
It’s really fast and easy to prepare. Allow me to stat that salted coffee is a crime. Do not do this with salted butter. Bleah.

Kerrygold butter or another grass-fed brand of butter really matters because corn or soy-fed cows don’t make butter with the same fats. Those butters don’t blend well, don’t taste good, and don’t make you feel Bulletproof.

Grass-fed butter is much healthier than other butter. It doesn’t make cholesterol levels worse, it optimizes them! Starting your day with grass-fed butter will give you lots of energy and it will give your body healthy fats that it will use to make cell walls and hormones.

If you’re like most of my friends who try this, your body is so starved for healthy fats that you feel like you can’t get enough. It will take your body a week or so to fully turn on its fat digestion systems when you switch to a high healthy fat breakfast of Bulletproof coffee. If at first it is a little too rich, try using less butter at first and build up to the amount you like. Taking a betaine HCl or digestive enzyme supplement with your coffee will also help your body digest the butter.

Try this. After one drink of Bulletproof coffee, you’ll never be tempted to eat fat-free, insulin-raising, fat-storing toast and oatmeal breakfasts again!

Same, actually. Just read about the coffee and poked around on the site. Never thought about butter in my coffee but I've heard about coconut oil in coffee and it's not like it's that far off!

Sounds like my kind of breakfast!

suggestions on what qualifies as high-end, superior, mold free coffee? Is the best place the internet for this? I may like to try this after P2 also! sounds perfect for me.

My stepdad's been doing this for years. The rest of the family always thought he was crazy... Good to finally know this isn't a weird personal quirk of his. :-) FYI - he buys a giant bottle of ghee and uses that, rather than using sticks of butter. (Ghee = clarified butter - it's dirt cheap at your local Indian/Pakistani store vs. the local super market)

Lynne (or anyone who has tried this) - his recipe calls for 2T of butter and 2T of MCT oil. I've found that 1T of MCT can cause me some serious GI distress. I know he says to work up to this amount but anyone have any tips?

Also, has anyone done this with regular coffee as opposed to the "mold-free" coffee he recommends? (I'm not sure what kind of looks I would get if I went around asking for "mold-free" coffee... ) If so, does it still taste good?

My stepdad uses Nescafe. He drinks it first thing in the morning and then generally eats lunch at 3pm so I guess it works.

I was thinking of trying this with my regular grind coffee, the stuff I always drink. I found that my local Whole Foods Market has an iclandic grass fed organic unsalted butter named Smjor That I will use, (just 1 Tbl to start). I will leave out the MCT oil or maybe try a bit of coconut oil instead. Im not a purist so If I love it maybe I will look into a better (mold free) coffee and the MCT. I dont know why this sounds so good to me but since I read this thread yesterday ive had obsessive thoughts about this coffee and cant wait till P3 to try it!!

I've been doing 2 cups of coffee with 30g. of kerrygold butter and 30g. of c.o. Once I receive my mct oil I'll start with 1 teaspoon. I hope to work up to 2T, but I understand there can be some stomach upset if it's done too quickly.

i started bulletproof coffee this past week after a 2wk stall and the scale finally MOVED. i know its rogue but it helped me.

i use a tbs of kerrygold butter & tbs of CO and whirl it in my stick blender- sooooooooooooooooooooooooo yummy!! i sometimes even have it 2x a day. the calories are high and so it puts me at 600-700 a day but its ok. to me its worth it

i read a lot about this coffee and the fat calories in it are good for you calories!

also- i used salted butter (thats all the store had) even tho he said it was "blegh" and use my folgers black silk coffee which is still very yummy!

So does this mean you are using it in the morning and then eating a typical P2 menu the rest of the day? Interesting! I have heard of people using it for Fat Fasts and on P3, but I hadn't heard of using it during a regular P2 day. Thanks for sharing!

I didn't use this on P2 but BOY HOWDY have I been enjoying it on P3! This is soooooo yummy! I usually add around 20-25g of butter and 1T MCT. I haven't tried it with salted butter but I love salted anything so I can't see how it could be too bad (thanks for the review on that junkn!). I started with Kerrygold and just recently got a different brand of organic butter, I think it's Tillamook? Curious to see if there is any difference. It usually keeps my tummy happy until about 12:30 or 1pm. (I drink it around 7am.)

YUM!

yes, i use it in the morning and have my two p2 meals. so it does put me at 700 calories but it didn't hurt me but helped me. i've been on hhcg for soooo long that i needed something different.

if i have a second cup then its usually in the evening in PLACE of my dinner so on those days i have 2 cups of bullet proof coffee and 1 p2 meal.

but if i have 1 cup of bulletproof in the morning only- then i go ahead and have my two p2 meals.

i read that some people don't count calories in the butter or CO because uhhh i don't remember the exact reason- lol!

I'm curious about this. May add it in P3, or to help w. the first week of P3 in particular. I gained on CO (I know, I'm the rare exception to the wonders of CO!!). So, I'll prob. leave that out. Hmmm. Keep sharing please .

Oh Julie! You MUST try it with the butter! I only add the MCT because I know it's an awesome source of energy. But the BUTTER! Oh...swoon!

I'm enjoying a mug now! You really gotta try this Julie!

You know me, I'm a 'coffee with my cream' kind of gal, but, with BPC I haven't even wanted cream in it! The butter is marvelous in it - I use .5oz Kerrygold and 1t coconut oil. I think I'll bump it up a little more

Water-pressed coffees are supposed to be the mold-free type. Peet's sells a Mocca Java water-pressed coffee. An added benefit is that it's decaf, therefore won't spike your blood sugar. It's really good and smooth too. I haven't seen it at the grocery stores that sell Peet's. I have only found it at Peet's coffee shops and its also available online from their website.

its not a diet so much as a coffee with energy/weight loss properties according to the website. it is mold free coffee, unsalted high quality grass fed butter, and mct oil all whipped up in a blender. it is oh-so good lol. im using it on my fat fast

Ok, I still haven't tried this . But I want to.

You guys really use a blender each morning? You brew your coffee, pour it into the blender, add melted butter, hot coffee, MCT/CO oil and just whirl it up? Add sweeteners too, right? No cream? Really? Can you tell I'm getting to the nitty gritty as I'd like to try it out. I can't imagine using my ninja each morning for it, but I would like to try it. I bought organic no-salt butter for it, so I know it's on my "to-do" list this week. Hope it'll help me make it to lunch w.o. hunger.

I don't have "mold free" coffee per se, but do have the Organic stuff from Sprouts . Hope that's ok?

Who's been doing it a while w. good longer term results?
