Hi Shelyla...question about mint

* No mint is allowed. Buy non-mint toothpaste. Crest Cinnamon is a good one.

Hi there....very new to this diet, my boyfriend and I are on our 4th VLCD. I've read most of the 91 plus pages on here and you seem to be one of the experts :-)
In one post you recommended Altoids Smalls from Trader Joes....but in this post you say NO MINT. Like I said 91 pages of research may have made me dizzy...but are the Altoids OK on P2 or should we shelve them for a different phase?
We are trying to follow as strict as possible....so far we were both losing a pound a day, but I didn't lose from yesterday (exactly the same) so I'm maybe over thinking as to why....
Thanks for all you do on this board.
Beth

No mint? I have absolutely zero recollection of having ever seen that anywhere in the protocol, and I've read through it numerous times. That doesn't mean I didn't miss it, but it sounds a bit arbitrary. The sugar in toothpaste or mins could be an issue, but just the herb, itself? I drank mint green tea and brushed with powdered mint toothpaste throughout my protocol rounds with zero issue, and I'm about as strict a protocol follower as they come.

I'm not Shelbyla (she's on a vacation) but perhaps I can help! Mint is only to be avoided if you are using homeopathic hCG, as it can interfere with the potency of the hCG. Some people obviously still use it and say it's fine, but technically, strong flavors or smells can impact homeopathic medicine. You may want to wait until P3 for the mints.

If you're on RX hCG, it's not an issue.

Yep, that's only for the homeopathic, or possibly the sublinguinal Rxhcg. The mint can break down the supplement.

That said, the past 2 rounds I did I have used the pellets and kept my mint toothpaste w/ no ill effects.

Good luck!!

Mint follow up....Altoids Smalls from Trader Joes

I was reading Shelbyla's "Short Form" post....thats where I got the NO MINT....
in another of her posts...she wrote that Altoids Smalls from Trader Joes were ok.
So I guess my real question is about Altoids :-)
I'm a gum chewer and fresh breath is a priority ! :-)

thanks for the response, I have been avoiding mint cause I thought it was also for the RXHCG. this is my first round of RX, I've always done homeopathic before and I as following that. I also missed where I was supposed to load for 3 days not 2 oh well, lost my chance.

In case this is still a question - Altoids Smalls (or other no sugar mints, gum or toothpaste) are fine if you are doing rx, NOT if you are doing homeopathic.

I've been using mint toothpaste since day #1, have used Intermountain hhcg pellets the entire time (I'm on Round 6) and haven't had any issues. Therefore, I'll keep using it.
