How much low sodium/no sugar broth is allowed?

Can I sip it throughout the day like tea?

I make home made broth and calculate it high (25 calories a cup)to keep it in the calorie zone of 500 a day. My HCG coach says to yes, sip at all day

I make mine with chicken, celery, bay leaves and spices.

If you use store bought, just note that it may effect your loss due to sodium content. You just have too see how your body does.

You have to count the calories. Then you determine your total calories for the day and you can have as much as your calories allow for the day. I don't do broth as I usually don't have the calories allowed for it. I don't know if my ****** numbers are off or what, but I don't do the broth. Even though I love my French onion soup on P2. Ooooh, maybe I can have that this weekend. I deserve a treat!

I have used maybe a Tablespoon to saute my chicken. but I don't drink the broth, just dont want the chicken too dry. I am planning to make lemon ginger chicken tonight. I think I need broth for that, but probably very little.

Adeline--it is in the recipe thread at the top of this forum. It is like Post #9 or something like that. metqa posted it and it is fabulous!! Truly worth the effort to make it. It is for this recipe alone that I love metqa!!!!

Two questions about chicken broth. My DH just made a big pot of it, with a whole chicken, but he put carrots in the pot. I quickly fished them out before too long, and now we're refrigerating it in order to scrape off the fat when it's cold.

So I'm pretty sure the broth will be okay (and yummy).

But the other question: do you think I can use the white meat from the whole chicken that was boiled for part of a meal?

For sure
I do if I have any edible. I tend to over simmer. lol

I make mine sometimes with celery and a bay leaf. I try to keep the celery in my broth.

Bone broth is supposed to be really good for us.

So I made some a couple of days ago. I poured it into a plastic pitcher, let cool in the sink. I came back later and it was almost all empty! My container was cracked! Grrrrr...I think I saved 1 cup. lol

What is bone broth? Is that when you just use the bone? This was a whole chicken (and some celery and bay leaves).
And when I said use the chicken that was cooked in there in a meal - I meant an HCG-approved meal, just to be clear.

I usually cook a whole chicken for the family. Then I pull it apart and simmer the carcass with spices and veggies for myself. I freeze a lot of broth too to cook cabbage and chicken for future meals. So I guess my recipe is "bone broth".

And yes, if you cook a whole chicken in the pot and have pieces, use them for P2, breast meat

Dawn,
me too. grrr..lol

Yikes. Our broth was made with the entire chicken in the pot. And I drank about 3/4 cup of it today (a bit rogue) because I was feeling so shaky (see my post about upping dose).

So... we WERE supposed to use JUST THE BONES?! I just checked calories on the online place I use (can't say the name) and regular chicken stock (what we made) is SO MUCH HIGHER, some are listed as up to like 150 calories a cup! We did skim off the fat this morning, but still. If only I'd known that before I drank it. I was assuming it would be similar to the O's organics, which is like... 15 calories a cup. So mad at myself and worried about tomorrow. To be hungry like this all day and then maybe not lose because of something I didn't even know.

Well, typically, yes, that is how broth is made. At least that is how I was taught. Simmer a carcass.

You may be very surprised

Don't stress, that causes weight gain! lol

So to reiterate, when you asked about using the white pieces of chicken, that is what I thought you meant. The carcass will shed more meat as it simmers. I strain what I can and eat it. Hate to waste it!

Well, the morning after that day, I had another great loss, but today not so much. Granted it could be a million things. I don't actually believe, and never will, that what the scale shows on any given day is necessarily exactly a result of the day before. ESPECIALLY for women.

That said, going to use the whole chicken broth (fat now scraped off the top) sparingly.

Do you think I should also avoid the white meat that was cooked with that broth, then? It was effectively cooked in its own fat.

I would use the same white meat if it were me but I am not afraid of a wee bit of fat. even on P2. I do the Fat Fast sometimes on P2 and lose great so my body is ok with it. If you are worried, freeze it up and use what you feel safe with. Save it for P3.

I totally agree with you about what you weigh today may not be from what you ate yesterday. I do believe it is called the 2 day phenomenon.

Also, if I eat late, it shows the next day more so if I cut off my food at 6:00 (which I try to do). And! lol...if I over drink fluids, it is counter productive. My sweet spot is 60 to 70 ounces of calorie free liquid.
