Travel
I delayed starting hHCG because I am on a very food-centric work trip and knew I'd set myself up for failure. So home tomorrow, TOM this weekend, and finiallymsometime next weekend I can start. I have several other small work trips coming up, I won't have the same temptations, but wondering how folks manage the protocol away from home. Fruit and Melba toast are easy, but veggies and protein seams more difficult. Ordering any salad at a restraint is going to have mixed vegetables, but all I can think of is a salad w/ CHX on top.
Oh, one other question, the hHCG I got indicated 3 peoples x3 times a day, but not when - evenly spread out? |

Generally speaking, I take a lot of food with me when I travel, either in P2 (which isn't my favorite thing to do) or P3. When I am in P2, I have only black coffee or green tea for breakfast. I will bring my protein with me to restaurants for lunch (usually shrimp or chicken), order plain salad with oil and vinegar or lemon wedges on the side (sometimes mustard), and make my own salad. Usually you can find a plain lettuce type of side salad on a menu or ask for one specifically. For dinner, if you absolutely MUST eat out, order beef or fish over chicken and specify NO OILS (you are pre-diabetic, you are under a doctor's orders to reduce fat, you had an allergic reaction the last time you ate out--it was/is HORRIBLE! etc.
). When it comes, IMMEDIATELY portion out your 3-4 ounces and ask for a doggie bag for the rest. Get it with steamed veggies. This is the time, if you ARE going to break protocol with a different veggie, to do it. Broccoli, zucchini, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and obviously asparagus and spinach are all decent choices and better than messing up your diet (again, NO OILS). A lot of places will also have fresh berries in season for "dessert".The staples that I usually pack are some of the following... Roasted or grilled chicken breast Hard-boiled eggs (already peeled) Grilled hamburger patties Boiled shrimp Individual 0% Greek yogurts Individual 1-2% cottage cheese Celery sticks Radishes Cherry tomatoes Cucumber slices Apples Grapefruit Sweetener packets (mix with mustard, lemon juice, and or vinegar for "honey mustard" dressing) Dessert teas (Yogi Vanilla Hazelnut, Peach Detox, Raspberry, etc.) By "peoples" above I am assuming you mean pellets? (Srsly autocorrect! ) Most people take one dose when they wake, one dose either right before or right after lunch, and one dose around bedtime. It doesn't really matter except that they should be roughly evenly spaced during waking hours and that they are not taken within 15-20 minutes of eating or drinking ANYTHING including water.HTH and WELCOME!

I've done a round and had to travel twice for job interviews -- I managed them by cooking meals, packing them, and bringing them with me, or going out to the nearest grocery store at my destination, buying prepackaged plain chicken breast, fruit, and salad greens, and stashing them in my hotel fridge. My meals from home just consisted of whatever meat and a more portable veggie, like asparagus, tomato, or onion. Easier to pack! I was also writing down everything I ate, so when I bought groceries, I used the weights on the packaging to roughly estimate the amount and caloric value of everything. I've also just done an apple day one of the days for the sake of simplicity.
It's not the most fun thing to handle, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

I've been trying to figure out what to do b/c I will be traveling for a weekend coming up and I'm not sure what to do. I love the idea of making one day an apple day b/c that's super easy so I've got that down. Now I have to figure out how to do the rest. I will be staying at my parents so I'll be able to cook my meals but we are going out to dinner for my grandmothers birthday so I am unsure what to do for that. Maybe I'll do what was suggested above to order a steak or chicken cooked with no oil and portion it out and then order asparagus or spinach ask for it steamed or something!?!?

I usually order the burger. Sliders are ideal, since they're nice and small. Usually the oz or 1/4lbs is listed on the menu. I can do the math from there. I get mustard, pickle, lettuce and tomato on mine (I know, mixing my veggies!! Bad girl!!). I allow the bread to soak up as much of the fat from the burger and off I go. I cut it up and eat it salad style. Also easier to hide if you don't eat it all, which I don't. I do a 1/4lb patty (weighed b/4 cooking) and leave a bite.
Shrimp cocktail is an excellent choice. The cocktail sauce likely has some sugar in it, but I've been known to at least have a taste of that w. mine. ![]() I'm afraid of chicken cooked out. They don't seem to know how to season, cook or serve it w.o sugar in the marinade, oil on the grill, etc. I second the steak suggestion. Go for a nice prime rib or filet mignon. Again, they'll have the pre-cooked weight on the menu (usually). Then portion as necessary. Ask them to grill it w/o oil. I'll probably be going out to dinner as my BIL is in town this week. I'll do steak if we go fancy, or a little burger. I've even done In-n-Out and Wendy's burgers successfull on plan . Actually, I lose best on beef.HTH!! Good luck!!

EXCEPT...they don't know how to wrap it here...lol. They stack it like a bun...very messy Guess I'm gonna have to go back there & show them I lose well on beef also...sometimes I have better losses. I tried Tilapia yesterday...but just couldn't get it down...not a fish person...shrimp & tuna are my limits.Last edited by Crazy PreK Teacher; 07-19-2012 at 02:14 PM.. |

Great idea on the apple day, I have a few 1 day trips and that will be the easiest, on the longer ones, I like the burger option, sizing will be an issue, can you combine your 2 servings for a larger?

I went out for my dinner last night. It was my 18th wedding anniversary!!!! We went to Longhorn Steakhouse when a LCFer reminded me they have a menu for 500 calories and under. I ordered the 8 oz steak and ate half. Then had the salad with a fat free ranch dressing. Took my other side home for the family to eat today. It was very yummy!!! All went well--lost 1.2 this morning!!!!

The fruit or the breadstick may be eaten between meals instead of with lunch or dinner, but not more than than four items listed for lunch and dinner may be eaten at one meal. ... All things not listed are forbidden, and the patient is assured that nothing permissible has been left out. The 100 grams of meat must he scrupulously weighed raw after all visible fat has been removed. To do this accurately the patient must have a letter-scale, as kitchen scales are not sufficiently accurate and the butcher should certainly not be relied upon. Those not uncommon patients who feel that even so little food is too much for them, can omit anything they wish. There is no objection to breaking up the two meals. For instance having a breadstick and an apple for breakfast or an orange before going to bed, provided they are deducted from the regular meals. The whole daily ration of two breadsticks or two fruits may not be eaten at the same time, nor can any item saved from the previous day be added on the following day. In the beginning patients are advised to check every meal against their diet sheet before starting to eat and not to rely on their memory. Quote:
