Could it be as simple as that?
Well, bread is a bit evil...I have not tried it yet, mostly using potato to raise my carbs. The Optimal Diet is really positive on potato being a good source compared to flour and sugar. That said, I have not reintroduced potato chips...that is my downfall and trigger food! Even lowcarb tortillas are tricky for me. I've included a cornmeal tortilla a time or two with no problem. I'm also using some of my ancient Atkins bread mix to add variety, but that's super low in carbs and bad enough there's no urge to overeat.

Eating out is so complicated, isn't it? Even if you think you choose well, the portion size could be way off and there can be fillers or ingredients you react to. So frustrating!

Wheat and grains are a whole 'nuther can o' worms. Ladies who need starch, I'd recommend sweet potatoes and maybe a bit of rice.

I have some of that Atkins mix too

Eating out is probably my number one killer. You never know what's in the stuff and it's hard to consistantly make the right choices.

i'm tending to agree with you terri. the only time i get my carb induced sore boobs, etc is when i have eaten a lot of sugar. but i can eat (good, whole grain) bread everyday if not twice a day or chips or other non sugar type carbs and not get that sore, inflamed feeling.

Hmm, potato is out for me, at least in the quantity I tried! 1 hr was 133...that's far too high when my fasting is 74.

Whooohoooo Paula! You are rockin', woman!

Lynne, so great to see a drop! You SO deserve it! (You should pop on over to the No S thread and tell Cheryl she was right -- she would get a kick out of that. I miss having her around!)

Disney! Glad the pregnancy is going well -- I can't wait to hear the sex of the child... let's hope it's a girl (I believe that is what you want, yes?)

Interesting about the potato, Paula -- too bad So nice to have a tool for measuring blood sugar though! I'm judging by how I feel, but I think that is actually a pretty good measure of things.

Interesting about the breast soreness, Dazy -- I get that when I am inflamed as well -- I thought perhaps it pointed to a sex-hormone component of things -- and perhaps it does.

This is turning out to be a bit of a see-saw round for me, but I got a nice drop today, and the overall trend is a down-ward one, so that is making me happy. I am definitely feeling less inflamed, too -- thank goodness!

If past rounds are any indication, I should see some scale weight drop in the next week -- we'll see how that goes.

I'm enjoying eating this way -- and so far, there has been very little hunger, and no weakness, which I dearly hope continues.

Assuming I continue to feel this way, I have no problem being in this for the long haul --

I was doing some reading last night, and it appears that very low calorie dieting *can* increase one's insulin senstivity! (Again, thanks to the bodybuilding community for this information.) So, it likely isn't the hcg per se that did it, but the long periods of calorie deprivation.

In any event, I am glad it happened, and I plan to take full advantage of it. I *like* having the good carbs back, and having them work well for my body!

That said, I am reining in the carbs a bit today, and having a bit more fat and protein, just to keep things balanced out. I am shooting to get in a workout this afternoon, too -- let's hope I can make that happen.

I find I am thinking about food really differently right now -- really concentrating on how to get the most nutritional value out of my caloric buck ... that seems a good way to approach eating for life, I think.

My mind set is different this round, knowing that I won't be going into a traditional p3 -- I am focusing on finding a good, balanced way to eat that I can keep up indefinitely, knowing that I will eventually be increasing the portions a bit -- and so far, I think I am doing well with it

I don't feel at all deprived -- in fact, I feel very liberated, being able to include this new variety of foods.

I think tomorrow is going to include a sweet potato, and I am really looking forward to that! Today, I have marinated ahi steaks and salad on the menu for later, and probably at least one serving of fruit somewhere in the afternoon or evening. I had my main meal this afternoon, shortly after waking up (very late) -- and that is just fine.

Thanks, Pre-K!

I want to give a BIG shout out to all of you for your wonderful support through all this! I am handling the whole rebound business so much better than I ever anticipated I would -- and in part, that is because of all you wonderful folks!

Rather than approaching this as a failure on my part, I am seeing it as a great big experiment, and hoping that what I am learning will also help others who might be in the same boat.

Protocol seems to be just the answer for some people, but definitely not for all of us -- and I hope that I find a solution that helps not just me, but others of us, find a way to lose and maintain for good

Another day, and still easy, satisfied, and content with what I am eating. Higher protein today, lower on the carbs -- came in about 1050 calories I believe....

So far, this is the easiest round I have done, and I hope it will go on to become the most successful, too.

I'm feeling thinner, even if the scale isn't showing a lot of movement yet -- inches are definitely showing and the water retention is finally going down. (Thank goodness! I still have a long ways to go in that department). Plus, my gut is really happy with the fruit and veggies So far, this is great. Energy was good again today -- I didn't work out, though -- so I will definitely be wanting to get a workout in tomorrow.

Darned ovulation weight popped on overnight. Back up to 126. At least I didn't need ibuprofen to get thru it yesterday, but still annoying!

The scale is just a number though, I do feel the flatter tummy thing going on so that's all that matters!

Down 1.1 today for a total of 4.9 in four days. I had a LC tortilla with dinner last night. Didn’t notice much difference in hunger, but did have more energy.

Sorry for the bump Paula, but at least you know what it's about and that it's temporary.

Great going Mini. This kind of loss is really going to stick.

Feeling good, had 50g. of extra chicken last night with dinner. I'm really doing this in IF style, 1st meal is lunch around 1:00, then dinner as soon as I get home. I was hungry yesterday, but not starvation hunger, just hungry.

Today is day 3!!

Thank you Terri!!

I also want to mention that since I've eschewed (love that word!) the mf foods (and all their soy) my hot flashes and night sweats have returned. I'm NOT happy about this, but it just goes to show the power of soy - and I don't mean that in a good way. Soy was one of the "necessary evils" of the mf plan for me, I truly believe it has no part in a healthy diet, due to the high level of processing in order to make it edible. Also, I'm no longer eating whey, which was in one of the bars I was eating daily.

*bangs head on wall* Whey is in the bodybuilder's "weight gain" shakes!! I KNEW THIS!! But, I thought that since I was eating calorie-controlled portions that I would be ok.

I forgot to mention that yesterday and today I also had 1T of hwc (carefully measured) in my coffee. I think this goes a long way toward helping me do the IF element of the diet. I worked out Wednesday, but that was only day 1, so I had plenty of fuel still in me. I'll be working out again in a few minutes, but I'm going to be very careful and observant with myself. I've always worked out fasted, but in the past I've only waited about 2 hours to eat, not 6. We'll see...I'll keep you posted.

Yippee! I weighed on my sister's scale & it says I'm back to 136.5 which is my pre-water-retention wt. but it might weigh light... I'll take it! However, I still have very puffy eyes & ring got tight last night. ~sigh~ I had a hamburger patty that had salt in it yesterday too.

Yesterday had strange palpitations (on the end of the walk); made me feel weird, kinda woozy. Took quite a while for my heart to calm down. Pulse went down to 82..72..66..72..73..65..72.. 59.. etc. I finally went for a nap & it stopped flopping around 15 minutes later... will check my bp if I can today.

MINI, I just wanted to pop in and see what you all were up to, I thought you were done with P2 and this was about "after" but I see some of you are on varying rogue plans and looks like you're doing good! I'm glad!

For my "AFTER" plan, I'm sticking with JUDDD for now, for maintenance. I'm doing well on it, apparently for me it *is* all about the calories and the rotations. I follow the rotations and no food is evil (I'm in P4, so for P3 I did do JUDDD but observed the no starch/no sugar component) and when I added in a little healthy starch/sugar within my calorie limits I was fine. It was when on vacay and didn't do my rotations that last week I ended up gaining 4-5 pounds.... mainly from the $5 lava flows and mai tais at the pool bar ha ha ha!!!! But I'm back down to LIW +1 now in only 3 rotations of upday/downdays. I'm a happy camper. Easiest P3/P4 I've ever had. (well, my 2nd one was fantastic, while I was traveling in Europe and not eating American cr@P GMO!)

Terri, I read your S diet webpage and it made so much sense to me, I am mainly incorporating it into my JUDDD rotations. Plate Balance appears to be key for me. Lynn, Paula, and Dazy, I try to keep up with what you're doing to see what might work for me, so I'm sticking to mere "bites" of anything really starchy, stay away from soy, and trying to stay away from potatoes (inflammatory) except a very few salt and vinegar chips once in a great while, which are my most favorite! Rice and starchier veggies are what I have a little bit of that is healthy starch. Any other ideas in that regard are much appreciated. When I was on vacation I shredded some raw cauliflower, and stir fried it and had it as "rice" and it was pretty good.

C'Marie! Good to see you!

I thought I was done with p2, too -- but I had a huge rebound gain (again, and immediately) on p3, and am slowly figuring out that low-carb doesn't actually work for me anymore. I' had a massive water retention gain, plus some real fat, and I am now attempting to get closer to where I really want to maintain. I'm happy enough to settle for 110 this time -- and that is still a ways away.

Terri and Goddess -- WHOOOHOOO on those scale drop! Nice to see them! Lynne, whey works well for some people and not for others. Plenty of people can lose on it, but it is a mighty staller for others -- and soy, well, it's a two edged sword... the hormonal component can be a blessing, but it supposedly has negative effects on the thyroid. Perhaps you can find a better way to supplement estrogens, minus the soy?

Debby -- fantastic about the water weight dropping off! The heart stuff doesn't sound good at all, though, and I really hope you can get that piece figured out very soon! I've know a couple of people who have had similar symptoms that the doctors never really figured out -- they did eventually go away on their own ... but that sort of thing can be serious.

I got zero scale love today -- in fact, a bump back up -- but I am definitely losing inches, so I am not going to freak about it. Still holding a lot of water -- thinking that eventually has to start dropping off. I know that last round I got a 4 lb drop literally overnight at one point, so am hoping the same will happen this time, and then some.

It always mystifies me how the body can get significantly smaller without a change on the scale, but I know it to be true.

Plan is to just keep doing this, as long as I am feeling well while doing it. I think the workouts might be prolonging the water retention, but I don't particularly want to give them up.

I'm trying not to get discouraged at the slow scale progress -- I'm making progress, even if it is bumpy and jumpy -- and that will have to be good enough for now.

Hey I'm not doing hcg.

LOL, not much of us left, but that's ok, we all have to do what works to reach our goals.

I'm having great hunger control now with my plan (after several weeks of adjustment however). Hitting 900-1100 calories during the week, and maintenance during weekend. Feeling no diet fatigue or slow down yet. Hoping that will continue, at least until I hit 120!

Debby Keep an eye on yourself, you might need a doctor, electrolytes, or something! We had one woman on the hcg thread that ended up in the hospital after passing out and not regaining consciousness, so I always want to caution folks especially if they are having similar symptoms.

Thanks girls
I am feeling better today, had a nice 30 minute walk (in the heat again); and had no heart episodes. Haven't had any palpitations today either. Feeling pretty good!

I have allowed myself a few foods with salt in them, hoping that it doesn't bring the big water retention back on... which hasn't all left yet, but the wt. is down.

We're taking off for another all-day motorcycle ride tomorrow. Going to check out Mt. St. Helens. Should be fun. We'll see about the food choices though. So far they have been perfect!

tay65: I'm not on HCG either, just enjoy the folks here!

Wow, Paula -- I don't think I heard about the woman who passed out -- scary stuff!

Debby, very glad you are feeling better -- I hope it continues. I was a bit worried about the stress of the water on my overall body functioning, but I think I am through the worst of it now.

Got in a Bar Method workout today -- my body was a bit sluggy and fought me a lot, but I got through it.

Tomorrow will be painting rooms at my roommate's grandmother's place, so her mom can rent it out. We are getting paid to do it, so that's great -- I really need all the cash I can muster right now.

I'm starting to ramp up and get work done for the coming semester, after procrastinating for much of the summer -- time to shake off the inertia now, and get things rolling.

Yesterday was a hugely stressful day, at work and after work. Mr. Goddess and I had a bit of a mis-communication, and I flew off the handle a little. Everything's fine now, but I was super hungry and what he needed from me delayed my dinner another hour! I was really afraid I'd eat the whole house! But, I didn't, thank Goddess!

And, another little drop today! If this keeps up...don't wanna jinx it!

Have a great weekend ladies, I'll check in later.

Need a lift

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, yesterday was the last day before I could start eating on phase 3. I hadn't been able to go to the bathroom in almost a week and at the end of the day, I was told my 90 day probation period at twork would not be extended. Wow, did that take the wind out of my sails. I really loved that job. I'm an out of work almost 53 y.o xray tech who is trying to stay faithful to the HCG diet. I made it through last night although I wanted a drink really bad. I stuck with club soda and lime. Today I got up with swollen eyes, got on the scale and was down 1.8, took a couple senna lax, ate a nice brekkie of eggs with chicken and cheese (YUM), drank coffee, and finally used the bathroom. Got back on the scale and was already up 1.6 from earlier today. Will try to stay positive. Need a break.
