WOE: HCG
Start Date: May 25, 2012
I didn't know I had the will power!

So I was very skeptical of the HCG diet and never considered doing it until I realized I just didn't have it in me to lose weight any other way. The hardest part for me is that I don't like vegetables, or much of anything healthy. I was raised on meat and potatoes and have never veered from that. But I thought, I can do anything for just 30 days, so I ordered the HCG drops my friends had been successful with.
Because of my pickyness, I did not follow the meal plan so much as I avoided the things prohibited and stuck to 500 calories each day. The first week was the hardest week ever. I lived on apples, strawberries and chicken. I had celery on occasion as well. I was starving! I lost 9 pounds in my first week though, so I stuck to it!
There was one rule I broke throughout the diet, which was to drink 8 oz. of Acai juice for breakfast, because I don't like coffee or tea and I felt that I'd get nutrients I desperately needed from the Acai juice. It has 80 calories and 13g of sugar, but it was the only sugar I had during the entire diet. It did not seem to hurt me at all.
I lost 13 pounds by the end of the second week. The slow down was expected so it didn't discourage me. My proudest accomplishment was going out of town for a couple of days and sticking to the diet. I also began to feel full after my tiny meals and I learned something huge! I CAN eat salad! While I was out of town, I ordered a chicken taco salad and only ate the chicken, lettuce and tomatoes out of it. I have never eaten salad before, so this is a big deal! It didn't matter that I didn't have dressing because I'd never had it before anyway!
Week three, I discovered Melba toast and was delighted to have a new texture enter my mouth. It tastes good, I don't know why people told me I'd hate it, LOL. I started adding lettuce & tomatoes to my chicken and my diet felt so much healthier in week three. Once I reached the 15 pound loss though, I hit a plateau. I heard that was common, so I didn't fret, but after four days of no loss, I was starting to get impatient. I started walking that week and finally dropped a pound on the fifth day. After 21 days, I had lost 18 pounds. It's now day 26 and I've lost 20.5 pounds with one or two days of drops left in my bottle.
That's another thing, these drops don't last as long as they say. Two bottles was supposed to get me through 30 days, but I ended up needing three bottles, so that was expensive. I took the drops as directed, six drops - six times a day, so someone was wrong!
Anyway, before this diet, I was weak. My life revolved around food. My husband is an excellent cook, but fortunately he has been traveling during my diet, so the timing was perfect! My social life was all about eating out with friends, and I've missed that, but now I'm prepared to do better when I eat out. I've discovered I don't need to stuff myself and that I can eat salad! I've done fine without my Dr. Pepper addiction, drinking only water throughout the day (besides my morning Acai juice). I feel like this is the first diet ever that might help me make a lifestyle change. Yes, I will go back to eating foods I loved like pizza or fried foods, but I will eat small portions. My goal is to keep my stomach shrunken like it is now so that I get full easily. I can't believe how full I've been these last two weeks eating so little. The first two weeks stunk, but the stomach finally shrunk! I'm so pleased to have lost 20 pounds in 26 days, I couldn't have done it any other way. And I'm walking now, so that helps. I actually jogged this morning and it felt liberating!
So all you newcomers, just stick to it and power through, because the results are amazing!
