Longtimer needs HELP ..exercise, P4 & weight gain?!?!?
I'm back for advice... I'm so frustrated
! Recap my journey first... 5 rounds, 75 lbs lost to goal ... maintained between all rounds w/effort but maintained. It's been months since resetting and eating P4 and I've decided to take up running... my 3rd week of couch to 5K .. I'm up 5 lbs since starting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My pants in the thighs & a$% are a smidge tighter.Typically, if I'm up 1-2 lbs I eat extra clean and it comes right off.. if it's anymore than 2 lbs or if eating clean doesn't work I do a CD and it comes off.. this is the first time this has not worked!!!! So.. what do you think!?!?!? I will add that I stopped my very last round short because I woke up one morning to my butt and girls being gone & what was left flabby.. I'm getting my butt back.. has the running turned this flab into muscle?!?!?! I'm really frustrated & at a loss, please advise! ![]() |

Yes. Muscle weighs MUCH more than fat. Everyone is different, but in my opinion toned and strong equals sexy. Enjoy your curvy, strong figure - who cares what the scale says? Take a good look at you rocking the skinny jeans :-)

I agree with Red, (as usual) but since muscle doesn't really "weigh" more than fat, a pound of fat weighs the same as a pound of muscle, it is just more compact. BUT the process does create inflammation for awhile and can make you bloat up a bit until things settle down. What generally happens though is that you can be a higher weight on the scale but more compact in measurements, depending on how you personally gain muscle. Depends what your personal goals are. I wouldn't sacrifice toning and strength for scale weight.
You could ask Mini or Julie about it more. I'm not an exerciser by nature but when I do I notice increase in weight in P3/P4 fairly quickly. Stay super clean eating. Your toned body will look better!

I know that Gilded Lily is having trouble with this too. She added in P90X and has gone up at least 5 lbs. I wish my gains all came from exercise LOL. At least you know you are gaining for a good reason.

I hope you didn't take it as a criticism, Red! Your advice is perfect on this!
And like Dawn, I sure wish my gains, when they happen, were due to exercise! |

Scale weight from exercise absolutely happens -- generally it is from the extra water needed for muscle repair, as C'Marie said. There also tends to be a temporary bulking up effect when a muscle is first worked hard -- it may appear that you are gaining a ton of muscle, but in reality, the muscle is just plumping up from the swelling. In time, they become a lot more compact.
As for the muscle vs. fat weight ... I don't have many cubic inches ... most of mine are more like blobs than cubes, lol! |
