NO WAY! There's two rules in P3 - no sugar and no starch. Beans are extremely starchy, every type but green beans is a no go in P3, including peanuts and peas. Any legume is pretty much out.
Save those recipes for P4, if your body can handle them. The anti-nutrients in beans cause me issues but not everyone had that sensitivity. |

I just avoid those recipes in P3 - simple! It is hard to find substitutions for those that are low enough on the glycemic index to work, but shelving starchy recipes or only making them for my family while I eat something else is no hardship for a few weeks.
Use the lists for Atkins induction food - those are P3 compliant, in general. If you find substitutes in those lists that work then great, but that's harder for me than just roasting a chicken and veggies with a fruit on the side for the kids. |

The Omaha Weight Loss plan allows 1/2 cup of beans in P2, so I think they would be OK for P3, but only in small amounts. Dr. S doesn't ban all carbohydrates as he expected folks to continue to eat fruit and such. He specifically bans what I call white carbs -- bread, potatoes, rice, etc. If I were maintaining well in P3, I'd have no problems with a small serving of beans. But each to their own.
Another option, if you have a health food store near, is to use Eden's black soy beans. They are wonderful in soups and stews and only weigh in at 2 net carbs. Last edited by belfrybat; 03-26-2012 at 06:08 AM.. |

No. I would not introduce those starches in P3. P2 calls for melba and those are out for P3. I would follow strictly the rules of P3 so that weight is set in stone for life!!! Just wait it out.
