Weight of protein after cooking?
I am browning ground turkey breast...it was frozen so I was unable to get an accurate weight measurement when it was raw. The package also does not say how much is in it! It says Servings: 4 oz, Servings per container: Varied. (WEIRD!) It looks like about a pound and 1/2. Anyway, my question is, if I weigh it after cooking how much should I aim for? 90 g? or less? Any suggestions?

When I had weighed my chicken before cooking it was 100 grams. When I weighed it after it was 2.5 oz. I don't remember the grams equivalent, I am sorry for that. My scale weighs in both oz and grams so I didn't need to remember both. No idea with ground beef. I didn't do the same with that protein. And I see you use ground turkey--I didn't do turkey on protocol.

I wish I could tell you! We've had to guess-timate in the past for similar reasons with ground beef. When finally given the ability to weigh before and after, we've gotten such a variety of results! Like 100g before cooking became 50-some after... but another time 100g before cooking became closer to 90 after. That's a huge difference! I think sometimes they must add in some water to make it heavier... and the percentage of fat might make a slight difference too.
Just warning you about the ground turkey though - you know that's not on protocol for Phase 2 on Dr. Simeon's list? Some people use turkey anyway, but just wanted to make sure you knew. And you're sure it's ground turkey breast meat? Wouldn't want you to have gotten just plain ground turkey, only to find out it's got miscellaneous dark meat and fat pieces in there too. Good luck to you! Sorry if I couldn't be more helpful! |

Yep, it's white ground turkey breast, 93/7. Eaten it on two rounds so far so I'm okay with it-I'm not strict protocol.
Thanks for the input guys, I weighed it and configured approximately 8 servings with what was there. I figured about 90 g. a serving. I'm not totally stringent with weighing because I up my protein anyway but just wanted a good idea of what I had. Dawn, I think that 100 g is 3.5 oz, but beyond that I suck with ratios/proportions...?? |

Yeah, I know that 3.5 is 100 grams but don't know what 2.5 turns into. I think my chicken is definitely water/solution filled/soaked LOL.

I ended up losing again (as is the norm in this diet) so can't say it was the turkey but have had good losses with it since. |
