OK- Day 1 of FF went pretty well, I think. I thought for sure I was going to be up on the scale today but, actually, dropped .6
I'm kind of sticking to the same menu today.. 2 eggs 3 slices of bacon Light tuna w/ hb egg yolks, mayo, and olive oil Handful of macadamia nuts FF Cream Cheese on celery Pork rinds and sour cream dip The absolute hardest part of this is getting enough fat cals without too much protein. ??? I'll probably try and go 'just fats' tomorrow..see how that works out. I don't know if I can do it for more than a day, tho- we'll see! ![]() |

I am in R1P4. How often can you do the three-day mac nut fat fast?

Whew - I spent last night and this morning reading through this whole thread!
I am on my 4th round of Rx injections. I started in May 2012, did a 7 week round and then since then I have "cycled" with 3 weeks of P2 and then 2 weeks of P3 and back to P2. I did a Fat Fast in my 2nd, 3rd and current rounds. I usually do 3 day FF and lose 4 lbs. This round, I felt really good so I went ahead and did 4 days. I always feel great when I'm on FF. And when I look back at my P2 losses, my best days are those FF days. So - my question is - do you think I could switch to do strictly FF on hcg? No VLCD? Since Atkins recommended only 7 days of FF, I thought maybe I could just alternate 7 days of FF with 7 days of P3 (no injections)? I know this would be VERY rogue but I don't mind experimenting to find what works best for me. I know hcg works and I don't really mind the VLCD food, but if I can lose better on FF, then I am willing to try it. So far, my body really responds well to it. Has anyone done anything similar? Thanks! Kim |

Im wondering about this too, I cant seem to lose anything at all on HCG, I lost my water weight the first day and then nothing... Im on vlcd 5 or something? This is ridiculous.
Im FFing today to see if anything happens, if I cant lose weight on FF then I dont think I can lose at all. How can a person not lose on 500 cals a day? Im suspecting my migraine medications but everyone seems to say they can lose on antidepressants and beta blockers. I cant go off those meds either. Im so beyond upset today. Kim- if you can lose on both, I guess just alternate around if you feel fine. If your on p2 do you still take the injections on FF? Im still taking my pellets, they seem to keep the hunger tolerable and im not obsessing about food like i usually am if i attempt fasting (ive done FF before in the past and juice fasting)... those past attempts failed cause I couldnt stop drooling over the thought of foooood. |

i did the fat fast for 3 days while on P2- still took my hhcg. it broke my stall. i went back to vlcd and stalled again, so i started adding some fats- bulletproof coffee and the scale moved again.
i would also like to mention that i did NOT lose anything until the THIRD week of hhcg. lol. i know everyone has big losses the first week but that wasn't my case.. so hang in there! |

I've done FF during several of my rounds with much success. The longest I ever did it was twelve days. The last two of which I actually started to gain but it also incorporated fast food so the reason is unclear. I did find they were less effective the more often (closer together) I did them. So if it were me YMMV I would do it as long as it was effective and take a break for at least two or three weeks before you did another one.
Hope that help! Great Luck! |

!! I hear this!! I only lost 3lbs my first week, gained 8 loading!! So hang in there!! Most lose well that first week, but not all of us. Were you "dieting" before hcg? That has an impact too!!I've gotta' go read more here, but I'm toying w. a FF. I've never done one and have been afraid to mess around as Atkins strongly discourages you from trying it unless you're extremely metabolically resistant. I'm not sure that's me, but I will likely be upping my fats in my transition from P2 to P3 starting Sunday. Just checking in to see who's done it and how they stabilized

Seriously? No loss for 3 weeks? How was the rate of loss when you did start? How long was that p2.... I don't know if this is worth it if I can't eat for weeks just to lose a couple pounds. I was prepared to lose 20 ... |

Just a thought..
I know a lot of people say that most meds have no ill effects on this diet, and in my experience so far, that's been true- with one exception, for me. I am fine with my bioidentical hormones, thyroid support etc.. I did a 10 day course of two different antibiotics and regular otc stuff with no problems. But, pain meds were a different story! My doc put me on oxycodone and I stalled immediately. I stopped taking them... Are you taking narcotic pain meds? Or non-narcotic Fiorinol? [quote=nspeedracer;15978319] |

I take the fiorinol or fioricet it has codeine in it, would that be stalling me? I take inderal and amitriptyline too.
I keep thinking I'd never do this for three weeks with no loss, I freak out at 5 days... |

The antidepressant might be a problem, but I know a couple of people who have been successful with hcg. One of my besties on hcg takes inderal everyday, too.. no problems. I think there's a good possibility that the codeine is the culprit.
Is there anyway you can use a substitute for your narcotic meds for a couple of days? Do you get daily migraines or do you only use the fioricet as needed?? If possible, maybe do a little experiment?? Stop the pain meds and see if the scale moves.. (Please don't hurt yourself, tho!) Personal question, sorry: Most narcotics are extremely constipating- is that the case for you? I think you may need more water than those who are not on meds/pain meds, too... |

I am constipated when Im on any diet, ive been taking stuff for that and nothing has worked.. ill have to go to the store for more today...
Ive been drinking as much water as I can stand. I did my fat fast yesterday and guess what I lost??? NOTHING! I have a Rx i can fill for the fiorinal without codeine.. I can try that. My migraines are daily and even on my meds i have a headache everyday most of the time. I already took my pain meds, but I can use the rest of the day to figure out other non narcotic options that might work for the rest of the day and tomorrow. Ill stay on fat fast another day... This is ridiculous, you have NO idea how bad I want to throw in the towel at this point. ![]() I hope everyone else is doing well Nat |

Nat--I was at the point you are at yesterday. I figure why stay on plan when the plan is not working. I am so sorry this is difficult for you
![]() I did stay on plan because someone said that my time was coming. I was due for a whoosh. Well, I finally got it. I dropped big, so I don't expect to drop for a few days. I had stayed at some version of 125 for 5 days. One of those days I actually gained I was pissed as hell. Just hang in there. I am sure once your body sees that you are serious about sticking to this, it will give up and drop the weight. I have been there my friend and seen it happen. Just hang in there a little while longer ![]() ![]()

Hey Nat! I just wanted to come in and encourage you to stick with it. I too am a super slow loser, but I am getting there. This round I lost my loading weight and a couple of pounds and then stalled out for almost a week before I dropped anymore. Then I stalled again and had a drop. I will never be a big loser in a single round, but I do fantastic with the maintaining part until I can start a new round. Stick with it, it will happen for you!

Thanks for the input! I think I've decided I am going to go ahead and give it a try. I am on P3 right now. I will start injections and fat fast on Saturday and go for 7 days and then decide what to do next depending on how much I lose. Based on past fat fasts, I think I can lose 8 lbs. during the week. If I do, I will go back to P3 for a week and then do it again.
I will try to report in each day and let you know how it goes. I love experiments - LOL. |

I was reading up and in the Atkins book he says beta blockers are an issue, I'm off the inderal and I reloaded and I'm on day one... Again, but I think I'm gonna be more rogue this time... I'm starting with a fat fast and see how long I can do it then try the vlcd but prolly without the grissini and watch the fruit, experiment and see if I lose better without it...
Good luck everyone The chocolate cream cheese muffins get me thru , need to pick up some pepperoni slices |

I just wanted to give an update on my Fat Fast "experiment". I have been doing hcg since May and I "cycle" with 3 weeks on hcg and then 2 weeks off hcg. After my last cycle, I decided to start taking only 1 week off so that I don't have to load. I just hate loading and then taking a week to get the load weight off and get back to LIW. I've done a Fat Fast for 3-4 days on every round except Round 1 and they have worked really well for me. So I started thinking maybe I would do ONLY fat fast when I'm on hcg and see what happens. Since Atkins says to only do it for one week, I decided to try one week on hcg with fat fast, then one week off hcg eating P3 (low carb).
Saturday was my first injection and Fat Fast day. Sunday I was down 1.4 lbs. and today I was down .4 lbs. Yesterday I was already below LIW so I am happy about that. Typically, my 2nd day on fat fat is my lowest release, so I wasn't surprised this morning. I have 5 more fat fast days to go. My typical dose is 150 IU (injections) but the first two days of the round I have started injecting 250 IU and that seems to work for me. It gets my hcg levels up quicker and I don't have any hunger, etc. the first few days of the round. I follow Atkins for my fat fast, eating 5 "meals" of around 200 calories each throughout the day. My fat percentage is usually around 80% but I try to get it as high as possible. Here are my typical "meals" that I use throughout the week. - 5 slices of bacon - 3 sausage balls - 2 keto balls - 1 1/2 mini cheesecakes with 1 tbs. almond butter - 30 g. macadamia nuts (usually mixed into my chocolate delight) I also use 2 Tbs. of coconut oil per day to make chocolate delight, and I don't include this in my calories (I even do this on VLCD with 1 Tbs. of coconut oil per day). I used this keto ball recipe - and then coated them in chocolate delight. Wow! They are delicious! My mini cheesecake recipe is VERY easy: 8 oz. cream cheese 1 egg 3 packets sweetener (I use ideal) - to taste 1 tsp. vanilla Mix all ingredients with mixer until light and fluffy. Fill 6 muffin cups (I love the silicone ones) and bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool and then refrigerate. Sausage Balls: 1 lb. bulk sausage 2 cups shredded cheese 1 cup Carbquik Mix to combine and form into small balls. Bake at 375 degree for 20 minutes. Makes about 40. I store these in the refrigerator and eat them cold. They are a nice change from having cream cheese at every meal - lol. I will be checking in with my weigh-ins to let you know how the "experiment" is going. |

bulletproof coffee (coffee with 2 TB kerry-gold butter) - 200 cals/200 from fat 1 oz macadamia nuts - 210 cals/190 from fat 2 cheesecake muffins (I divide the recipe into 8 muffins - 208 cals/164 from fat bulletproof coffee - 200 cals/200 from fat 1 oz cheese, 15 olives - 185 cals/155 from fat this give me 1003 cals/909 from fat for 90.6% cals from fat |
