HCG/Pending hysterectomy so saying goodbye to HCG for now :(

I am pending surgery for a TV Hysterectomy sometime this month or early next month. I sucessfully lost over 90 pounds in 5 rounds on Rx HCG over the course of a year and a half (most rounds I cycled). I kept the weight off for over a year. My last 2 rounds, however, coincided with lots of stress, medical problems and the holidays, and I ended up gaining back 60 pounds in a matter of 3 months. I can no longer wear any of my clothes. I have went back to low carb as of the moment, until I find out my surgery date to see how long I have before deciding to do another round before surgery.

What I would like to know is if anyone has had success using HCG after a hysterectomy, as I would love to go back to HCG after surgery. How long will the HCG stay in my system if I do a round before surgery? I would like to get ahead of this weight gain I currently have, and I know I will be putting on weight after the surgery if I am not extremely careful. I will be keeping my ovaries as well, and was wondering if the HCG hormone is going to effect anything concerning weight loss (not sure what, though) after the surgery. Would like to hear HCG success stories of those who have had hysterectomies, and how soon after your surgery you were able to use HCG. How long should I wait after surgery to start HCG again? I know my body will need a good while to heal, and I need extra protein to help the healing process; I just don't want to do it too soon, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would suggest reading through the archives of the hCGDieters group on yahoo, as there have been discussions of hCG treatments involving uterine, cervical, breast, and ovarian cancer and I know the archives contain a lot of wisdom. Generally speaking, hCG isn't detrimental with or post-cancer, it is often used to treat certain types of gonadal cancers in men and has shown no exacerbation of the conditions. I am no expert, but that is your absolute best bet for finding information on this topic and I know it has been discussed in the past month.

I wish I could answer all your questions, I had a hysterectomy last April but am just starting hhcg now. I don't see a reason why you couldn't start hcg when you feel ready. Just get plenty of rest. Oh don't weigh yourself for at least a week after your surgery, I gained like 10lbs of water weight from the Iv. I hope someone can answer your question about starting immediately after. I just ate whatever I wanted though I wish I hadn't, I was basically on bed rest for 3 weeks and wish I hadn't ate so much junk.

Artic Mama, thanks for the advice for the Yahoo group. I am currently sifting through posts to find some answers!!

VGrace, thank you as well! I think I will start HCG after the 6-week recovery period if I feel I am recovered enough to sustain only 500 calories. My main reason for asking was the hormones thing. I tend to do a lot of cabbage soup with ground chicken on my HCG rounds and want to ensure my bowels/stomach can handle it, as well as only 500 calories. I do plan to do lowcarb after my surgery, as the "white stuff" like flour/bread/sugar/rice etc...tend to bloat me. I have a variety of protein powder shake mixes and some Medifast (I have done it all...believe me!) and want to incorporate some of that into my recovery with extra protein. Plus, my husband has low-carbed with me many of times and knows what I will/won't be able to eat as far as diet-wise, anyway. I just don't want to go too low on protein during recovery.

I have just read so much concerning weight gain during recovery, mainly due to inactivity and overeating while bored staying home recovering, lol! And also have read a lot about weight gain after the hysterectomy. Just would like to combat some of that. And...I know I say I won't be eating junk, but will probably fall prey to at least some goodie every now and then. I'll just try to make it a LC dessert, it's do-able!

I had a hysterectomy in 2011 and did not start hcg until 9 months later. I kept my ovaries. It takes a long time for your body to heal. And you will have a swollen belly. I was swollen for a long time as are many women after the surgery.

I suggest you focus on healing. I had a Da Vinci and there was still a lot of healing inside. I still have twinges. I had to wait to see how my body would handle this massive change and it is massive. Your innards have to settle. Your bowels have to figure out how to do their thing without the uterus being there. Your appetite has to settle. Your bladder has to settle. You may have to deal with hormonal issues, e.g., hot flashes. You may have anemia. There may be other issues.

Your focus has to be on healing after this major surgery. You need the extra calories to heal. Having said that, try to focus on Phase 4 eating. You can minimize the damage by staying in Phase 4, eating your BMR and minimizing the sugars and starches.

Health first. Weight loss later. Good luck.

As to hcg prior to surgery, ask the surgeon. Mine wanted me off all supplements and such 10 day or more before the surgery.

There is a ton of stuff on there, but sometimes it takes clever searching. It sounds like your on the right track, dietarily speaking, with your plans. Soft proteins free of starch, most dairy (some people can handle cheeses without issues), and as much sugar as you can possibly avoid should both help your immune system (not giving it inflammatory food responses to deal with as WELL as your recovery) and prevent that bloat somewhat.

When my stepmother had a full hysterectomy about two years ago, she had wonderful success using naturopathic, homeopathic, and food-based supplements to treat her resulting hormonal imbalances. She did NOT use the diet/vitamin/homeopathic supplement route to deal with the cancer, but in restoring her body's balance I know she had an easy, comfortable time of it and was very happy not going to synthetic hormone route. That may be another thing to look into for after your surgery. Most major cities have naturopathic clinics and are familiar with using alternative methods to help the body balance hormone issues with thyroid, ovaries, etc.

I wish you the best!

Do you know about the hystersister website? It's fantastic. It was a Godsend and a lifesaver at every step of the way.

I have been reading the hystersister forum for about a week now. Everything with this surgery has came up so fast that I have been grabbing info from many different sites just to keep myself informed as to what to expect. I have learned a lot from hystersister stories, learned tips for before and after the surgery, and the right questions to discuss with my doctor. It IS a fantastic website! I couldn't find any information on there concerning using HCG, but I have found other info about using HCG after a hysterectomy successfully. I do think, though, that I am going to take your advice and concentrate on healing vs being so focused on my weight. It's just a natural reaction for me to be concerned about weight, I have fought my weight my entire life. I will still be sticking with soft proteins and low carbing during recovery, and will start back with HCG once everything with my system has settled down...not giving it a time limit though!. Thank you so much for the advice and your time, I really appreciate it!
