HAPPY NEW YEAR

I hope everyone's New Year was great. I am still weight training and exercising. Does anyone know if weight training makes a person gain weight? Is this a myth or actually factual?

Hi team,

I have been lurking around for the past month today is my first day of VLC R1P2. The loading went well. I gained 4 pounds, hoping it will come off quickly. I decided to do more of a rouge program I workout 5 days a week and don't want to stop. I'm eating around 700-800 calories. just upping my protein to 5 oz 3 times a day and 2 cups of veggies for lunch and dinner.

I've been gaining fast all fall though, so I'm just starting the drops again. I have no illusions that it will be remotely by the book, but hopefully I can do it well enough to make some progress.

Today was my first low cal day and I ate: a few pieces of leftover fillet, a few handfuls of popcorn, a piece of ham, a handful of nuts and homemade chocolate truffle. Also a large granny smith apple. I think that was it. Not great but not terrible for the birthday party I went to. I was 183.5 this morning after two quality loading days, lol, and was down to 181 by evening.

Unfortunately, I have social engagements every weekend this month, so I'm going to try to keep it as clean as I can during the week and indulge for a meal or two on the weekends. Nice to see you all again!

DS
back, DS! Happy losing to us all!

You can get through this, Tammy! Let's all pray for her and hold her up during this difficult time.

Minimonkey- thanks for the info on the fat fast. I'll have to keep that in the back of my mind and maybe try it at some point.

Paula- enjoy your new kitchenaid mixer. I got mine as a christmas present a few years ago and wasn't sure I would use it that much. I use it ALL the time! I LOVE it. I've even used a meat grinder attachment and ground meat with it. It's great.

Happy New Year everyone!
You have your hands full and we see how cute those handfuls are. You are exempt from long, detailed personals. Have a great time at the Mexican place and please eat some chips and salsa for me.

vlcd1 here. and starting off the round with social "things", ughh. nothing to disastrous. have some family coming over for supper, so today i am having my coffee with HH now and then will not eat anything the rest of the day and just have a light supper when they are here. tomorrow is lunch with a friend (actually we try and do this every week, soooo) and will do the same...eat lunch and then no plans to eat anything the rest of the day. and HOPEFULLY no more "things" and i can just mind my own business and get this DONE for the rest of the round!

i'll tell you all right now...i'm NOT good with personals....cheryl is always so awesome with that....i'm just not...but know i'm in each of your corners routing you on!!! and
Nice drop, Carrie! Soon you'll be beyond these next two hurdles and you'll be back on an even playing field with your diet plan. I'm battling the bloat, too. I hate when my fingers feel like sausages and my eye bags have bags of their own.

Cheryl.... I hear you about no specific plan. I think once I say "this one" I almost immediately fail! I am kind of like you, low carb/lower calorie, but with exercise and see where it leads. I was down 4.2 this morning (water again!!!!!!!) but off to a good start. TOM joined me this morning too, probably contributing a bit to the water and to the horrible cravings. I had only 39 net carb yesterday, which is good for me, and none of them were from sugar/flour products... yeah me!! I know I should not focus on so far back, but it makes me wonder if I will ever maintain or just keep screwing it up!! I will keep trying though...

Carrie - Good to have you back!!! How is Noah doing these days? Are you going to do just a short round? Nice to have DH joining. Mine is back on HCG too, but I am not currently, cant seem to stay on track with it, so just "my own thing with exercise the last couple of days"... Look forward to touching base again!!! Welcome back!

Minimo...yes, exercise and P2 sucks. Thats why I am not doing P2... I want to exercise now... after stopping for 3 weeks, I was starting to go stir crazy. Now I am just in pain!! LOL But good pain... and more to come today. After being sore from 2 days in a row, I have to do Jillian 30 day shred this morning and turbo again tonight. Might die tomorrow just for kicks... LOL...

Paula, good morning, you are maintaining well, thats a good thing at least!!

Hi to all else I missed. I forgot already from other thread...
Nice water whooshy, Cathy! I didn't get one of those, but had a lousy nights sleep. I'm working on that today, and surely tomorrow will be a good scale morning. DH is doing hcg? Yea! That should help you out a lot, having him not bringing home goodies. Enjoy working out again! And I hope our personal plans bring us to where we want to be.

Nice goals for January! I think I like this new siggy format for me because it gives me some very clear things to shoot for. I can check my progress all along the way by seeing what I'm achieving day to day, week to week. Plus, I'm just tired of this being all about the scale and weight loss. I have other goals that need to be attended to and I want to find balance, not just success in one area. It's time to bring it all together!

so, lunch is a gourmet spread of a cup of chicken broth, a few sf bread & butter pickles and a caffeine diet coke! honestly am not that hungry, so that's good...i was just getting a bit shaky and i hate that feeling...a growly tummy i can deal with, but do not like the shakes at all.

edited to add about noah's weekend: we had planned to be in the city (where radiation is) wed-fri morning, then he was to be admitted for chemo on friday. staying in a hotel with an indoor water park. well, all was great wed...got his blood drawn to check counts wed morning before heading to the city. those were great! got to town, checked into hotel, went to radiation, shopped for an hour or so after radiation...now it's about 4pm. and we're deciding what to do next. noah is hit with the most sudden onset of fatigue. he just goes on and on about how tired he is, his legs "are killing me"...on and on...very strange. i'm thinking, hmmm...must be 2.5 wks of radiation hitting him all at once. we decide to eat supper then go to a movie. he can't stand to hold his head up to even eat...so while we eat, he just lays his head down on whatever he can. he says he can't go to a movie. so dad drops ella, noah, and i at the hotel and he takes the older boys to see a movie. about 2.5 hrs after we had been in the hotel, after he had had motrin for his legs, after he had a bath...all the while so unsettled and just plain uncomfortable., he asks me to lay down with him. he's wearing only a pair of shorts. i lay with and he's burning up!! immediately i get my thermometer and check his temp. 101.2!!! what the heck!?! so i call the clinic and the on call doc calls me back within 5 min. i tell her the story and get to the temp....ahhh....that's a problem, she says. so i had to call dh out of their movie to come back and take us to the ER. thankfully there was only about 15 min left of the movie. oddly enough by the time we got to the hospital he starts feeling somewhat better. and of course, their dumb ear thermometer say his temp isn't even 100!! i hate those things. anyway, they draw blood cultures from both his arms and from his port and take a chest xray. give his a dose of iv antibiotics and THANKFULLY send us on our way. she decided he didn't need admitted. OH! and get this....remember he got his blood drawn in the morning to check counts? at 10am when those were checked his white count was 7 slightly under normal, but ok for him. at the ER his white count was 20!! soooo....he had def "caught" something and was fighting which would explain the sudden onset of fatigue. the doc asked us to go to the clinic thurs after radiation when they checked his counts again (my then his white count was now 9) and gave him another dose of iv antibiotics. dr. coulter decided to postpone his big chemo that he was to have gotten yesterday till next friday. instead, he had us, again go to the clinic for a final dose of iv antibiotics and then the week to recover from whatever it was that caused all that.
Thank God you took his temperature! I hate those tympanic thermometers, too. They use them because they're the fastest and easiest and they can be on their way to go do something else that much quicker. I'm really glad he responded well to the antibiotics and that they are postponing the chemo a bit. That white count sure went up fast, didn't it? Poor little guy.

Was able to workout 5 days last week and I walked for 30minutes today and plan to walk again later if I get a chance to.

Will be back home tomorrow and hopefully back to some normalcy.

Have a GREAT day!
Enjoy your trip and visit! WTG on the workouts and walking. Safe trip back home tomorrow! Normalcy

Well, I would think that if you were doing it right it would! If you do light weights and high reps, then no. But who am I to be giving you advice about gym matters?

Another newbie! We knew our clan would grow come January and here you all are! Looking forward to getting to know each of you.

As for me, I woke before the sun and then decided I didn't want to stay awake. Took all my morning meds and pellets and went back to sleep. Woke later on and weighed. Same as this morning. Milk of Mag (that I took early this morning) is working (like a charm or with a vengeance, depending on your point of view) and I'm keeping the food intake light.

Need to do a couple loads of laundry and do a few other things around here.

Hope everyone is well today!

Violet -- your losses are insane, woman!!!!!!!!!! You must feel so incredibly great!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

Just curious -- with your losses being that fast, how is your skin? Is it saggy, or has it tightened up?

I am struggling with loose skin after a MUCH smaller loss, which is why I ask....

I'm back finally time to re-start

I knew with company coming here ( my son and his wife first time in years) during xmas I was well going to be off plan, I cooked up a storm for 4 days, i tried, but was weak, I literally was loading for 4 to 5 days, was up 9 pounds, yep I know hanging head some, already lost 2.5 pounds, today threw all non p2 friendly foods out. So back on track 100 percent tomarrow. Although I have been good all this last week, but to many goodies left in house and I was sneaking. Man I feel Like I am at a confessional but its a huge weight lifted. I will be starting to walk on my treadmill which I have not done in a year. I know my body needs to move, its getting to rickity, but have been worried about not losing weight, my new plan is 600 calories a day, more like the nuviva, where I get 100 calorie choice of ezekiel bread or 100 calorie popcorn, 2 fruits and rest same as p2. Wish my luck, hoping to get the extra xmas muffin top off in a week or 2 Happy New year to everyone and lets hope if we strayed we learned a lesson. Mary

Dazy -- wow, that sounds scary with Noah! Glad he is feeling better - hope that continues!

Cathy -- I hear you about the appetite -- I struggled with that for a lot of this round, though the last part of it my appetite finally diminished, which was a huge blessing.
I hope you find a groove where you aren't starving all the time!

Paula -- whooohooo on stability, and on bras that fit!!

Hexa -- yes, Cheryl is right about the weight training, lol! Muscle is a lot more dense than fat, and weighs more by volume, so as you gain muscle you will get heavier, unless you lose a lot of fat to compensate. Sore muscles also retain water which can make the scale go up temporarily.

The good part, though, is that more muscle looks better, and you can end up weighing more and still being a much smaller size than before

Welcome back, MaryMouse!!!

Sorry if I missed anyone with the personals -- I am having a hectic morning.

Scale is down again today -- .4 down, which is more than fine since I am really quite sore from yesterday's workout! Doing another higher fat day, and hoping to keep the losses rolling. I still don't know what caused that weird jump up -- TOM has not arrived -- and I am really wondering if I am getting one this month.... if not, maybe that little hormonal blip was it, and the gain was due to that.

Whatever -- it's going the right direction, and that is what matters.

You, "made merry"! You let the good times roll. You did what society expects of us during, "the hap-happiest season of all!" You can hang your head for a little while if you must, but then there will be no more of that! Put it away and start clean. Pep talk over. Best of luck with your new round!

Cheryl -- I love your attitude -- let's all adopt that! Let the past season go, and start clean and fresh now.

There's no use fretting about what has gone by, in any event -- so moving forward is the only sane option

Trisha! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I know how those Capricorn birthdays are -- as if we don't get enough merry making with all the holidays, we have to have birthdays, too????

Mine was the 28th, and my mom's is tomorrow, so I completely understand that one.

Enjoy your birthday meal with no regrets!!!!

no, unfortunately, chemo is not even half done. they stick radiation in there after having done chemo for 12 weeks. he will be getting chemo till then middle to end of summer. :/

as for "is it working". with his type it's not really an is it or isn't type of situation....since they removed nearly all the tumor, there is really nothing to watch shrink or whatever. it's more a matter, this was a malignant tumor therefore, you will receive 43 weeks of chemo and since there was evidence of retained tumor on the path report you will also need radiation, then we monitor with MRI's for the next how many years. there is no measure of is it working other than looking for any growth/re-growth of the tumor despite treatment. after treatment is complete, they will monitor his prostate. if anything starts to look "bigger", ie: tumor re-growing, then they re-evaluate...we have never actually talked about this part....

soooo, still a ways to go.

Oh, dude. I hope so!!!!!!!! I'd be super thrilled to see it take a bow, pick up the roses from the stage, and go far, far into retirement

I may be aiding the process along a little by dropping to a low percentage of body fat, but at this stage of my life, that is JUST FINE by me.

Ahhh yet another reason I wish I was tiny with weight loss, making TOM disappear would make me soooo happy!!! Unfortunately, the darn bugger showed up at my door this morning... booo hisss!!!

Carrie, thanks for that clarification. All will be well. I forgot about the removal of the tumor part, and that they got it all, which is spectacular. So they are just being cautious really with extra treatment. He will be just great after its all over!! Now, he just has to put up with the next several months to come!!

Cathy -- there are actually some health risks with losing TOM due to low body fat/weight -- I lost mine for a couple of years in high school when I was way too thin ... but at this age, I figure the end of the line is near anyhow, so I won't be sorry to see it go.

These things seem to work on their own timeline, sadly. I may yet get mine -- my cycle is bizarre, to say the least. I'd definitely prefer to see it cease altogether than to go back to the 4 week endless periods, though! That was NO fun.

Oh I know... i just hate them with a passion...and with PMS and TOM here, makes me more adamant about it! LOL, I will just have to wait the slow course for menopause anyway, I cant get to goal, let alone to a low enough body fat to lose it..

How far are you from goal at this point, Cathy? (If you don't mind saying, that is...)

hmpf!! I am now (with my december flob ups) about 26 lbs from goal... But I am still hopeful some of that is water weight and bloat from TOM... but who knows at this point.

Edit to say... I can get to a certain point okay and then it just stops and I flounder around. Right now is bad eating/water weight and extra holiday pounds, but I know that once I get rid of that, it will start the same process of floundering again...

cathy....not cautious per se, just this is what treatment will be simply b/c of the path report. and they didn't get it 100%....if they had found any healthy prostate cells it would have been declared a complete resection and he would not have needed radiation, just chemo. as it turned out they did NOT find any healthy cells, so his was called a complete resection with residual disease....in other words they resected all they could see, but not enough to call it a 100% complete resection. also, even if they had had a 100% complete resection he would have still had to have the 43 weeks of chemo b/c it was malignant tumor, no if's, and's or but's.

Wow -- that's not too bad, really, Cathy -- and I am sure at least some of it is TOM weight.. it has to be.

Once that goes, you can have a good sense of how much you really need/want to lose.

Just to put it out there -- I would SO love to see goal sometime in the foreseeable future!

Maybe after that weird little jump up goes away completely, I will see some new lows.... oh, please??? Please???

Helllloooooo ladies! I will be joining you this week - I'm loading right now and tomorrow (I'll spare you the details since I know how hard it is to hear loading stories while on P2). I'll be VLCD1 as of Wednesday. I did Simeon's Protocol by the book last round, but had symptoms of protein deficiency. This round I'll be doing Simeon's Protocol veggies and fruit, gluten-free pretzels (because wheat defeats me), and upping my protein to 150g a meal instead of 100, for a total of 300g a day. We will see what the results are.
