HAPPY NEW YEAR
I hope everyone's New Year was great. I am still weight training and exercising. Does anyone know if weight training makes a person gain weight? Is this a myth or actually factual?

Hi team,
I have been lurking around for the past month today is my first day of VLC R1P2. The loading went well. I gained 4 pounds, hoping it will come off quickly. I decided to do more of a rouge program I workout 5 days a week and don't want to stop. I'm eating around 700-800 calories. just upping my protein to 5 oz 3 times a day and 2 cups of veggies for lunch and dinner. |

Thank God you took his temperature! I hate those tympanic thermometers, too. They use them because they're the fastest and easiest and they can be on their way to go do something else that much quicker. I'm really glad he responded well to the antibiotics and that they are postponing the chemo a bit. That white count sure went up fast, didn't it? Poor little guy. Quote:

Another newbie! We knew our clan would grow come January and here you all are! Looking forward to getting to know each of you. As for me, I woke before the sun and then decided I didn't want to stay awake. Took all my morning meds and pellets and went back to sleep. Woke later on and weighed. Same as this morning. Milk of Mag (that I took early this morning) is working (like a charm or with a vengeance, depending on your point of view) and I'm keeping the food intake light. Need to do a couple loads of laundry and do a few other things around here. Hope everyone is well today! |

Violet -- your losses are insane, woman!!!!!!!!!! You must feel so incredibly great!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!
Just curious -- with your losses being that fast, how is your skin? Is it saggy, or has it tightened up? I am struggling with loose skin after a MUCH smaller loss, which is why I ask.... |

I'm back finally time to re-start
I knew with company coming here ( my son and his wife first time in years) during xmas I was well going to be off plan, I cooked up a storm for 4 days, i tried, but was weak, I literally was loading for 4 to 5 days, was up 9 pounds, yep I know hanging head some, already lost 2.5 pounds, today threw all non p2 friendly foods out. So back on track 100 percent tomarrow. Although I have been good all this last week, but to many goodies left in house and I was sneaking. Man I feel Like I am at a confessional but its a huge weight lifted. I will be starting to walk on my treadmill which I have not done in a year. I know my body needs to move, its getting to rickity, but have been worried about not losing weight, my new plan is 600 calories a day, more like the nuviva, where I get 100 calorie choice of ezekiel bread or 100 calorie popcorn, 2 fruits and rest same as p2. Wish my luck, hoping to get the extra xmas muffin top off in a week or 2

Dazy -- wow, that sounds scary with Noah! Glad he is feeling better - hope that continues!
Cathy -- I hear you about the appetite -- I struggled with that for a lot of this round, though the last part of it my appetite finally diminished, which was a huge blessing. I hope you find a groove where you aren't starving all the time! Paula -- whooohooo on stability, and on bras that fit!! |

Hexa -- yes, Cheryl is right about the weight training, lol! Muscle is a lot more dense than fat, and weighs more by volume, so as you gain muscle you will get heavier, unless you lose a lot of fat to compensate. Sore muscles also retain water which can make the scale go up temporarily.
The good part, though, is that more muscle looks better, and you can end up weighing more and still being a much smaller size than before |

Welcome back, MaryMouse!!!
Sorry if I missed anyone with the personals -- I am having a hectic morning. Scale is down again today -- .4 down, which is more than fine since I am really quite sore from yesterday's workout! Doing another higher fat day, and hoping to keep the losses rolling. I still don't know what caused that weird jump up -- TOM has not arrived -- and I am really wondering if I am getting one this month.... if not, maybe that little hormonal blip was it, and the gain was due to that. Whatever -- it's going the right direction, and that is what matters.

Cheryl -- I love your attitude -- let's all adopt that! Let the past season go, and start clean and fresh now.
There's no use fretting about what has gone by, in any event -- so moving forward is the only sane option |

Trisha! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I know how those Capricorn birthdays are -- as if we don't get enough merry making with all the holidays, we have to have birthdays, too????
Mine was the 28th, and my mom's is tomorrow, so I completely understand that one. Enjoy your birthday meal with no regrets!!!! |

as for "is it working". with his type it's not really an is it or isn't type of situation....since they removed nearly all the tumor, there is really nothing to watch shrink or whatever. it's more a matter, this was a malignant tumor therefore, you will receive 43 weeks of chemo and since there was evidence of retained tumor on the path report you will also need radiation, then we monitor with MRI's for the next how many years. there is no measure of is it working other than looking for any growth/re-growth of the tumor despite treatment. after treatment is complete, they will monitor his prostate. if anything starts to look "bigger", ie: tumor re-growing, then they re-evaluate...we have never actually talked about this part.... soooo, still a ways to go. Oh, dude. I hope so!!!!!!!! I'd be super thrilled to see it take a bow, pick up the roses from the stage, and go far, far into retirement
I may be aiding the process along a little by dropping to a low percentage of body fat, but at this stage of my life, that is JUST FINE by me. |

Carrie, thanks for that clarification. All will be well. I forgot about the removal of the tumor part, and that they got it all, which is spectacular. So they are just being cautious really with extra treatment. He will be just great after its all over!! Now, he just has to put up with the next several months to come!! Cathy -- there are actually some health risks with losing TOM due to low body fat/weight -- I lost mine for a couple of years in high school when I was way too thin ... but at this age, I figure the end of the line is near anyhow, so I won't be sorry to see it go.
These things seem to work on their own timeline, sadly. I may yet get mine -- my cycle is bizarre, to say the least. I'd definitely prefer to see it cease altogether than to go back to the 4 week endless periods, though! That was NO fun. |

hmpf!! I am now (with my december flob ups) about 26 lbs from goal... But I am still hopeful some of that is water weight and bloat from TOM... but who knows at this point.
Edit to say... I can get to a certain point okay and then it just stops and I flounder around. Right now is bad eating/water weight and extra holiday pounds, but I know that once I get rid of that, it will start the same process of floundering again... cathy....not cautious per se, just this is what treatment will be simply b/c of the path report. and they didn't get it 100%....if they had found any healthy prostate cells it would have been declared a complete resection and he would not have needed radiation, just chemo. as it turned out they did NOT find any healthy cells, so his was called a complete resection with residual disease....in other words they resected all they could see, but not enough to call it a 100% complete resection. also, even if they had had a 100% complete resection he would have still had to have the 43 weeks of chemo b/c it was malignant tumor, no if's, and's or but's.

Wow -- that's not too bad, really, Cathy -- and I am sure at least some of it is TOM weight.. it has to be.
Once that goes, you can have a good sense of how much you really need/want to lose. |

Just to put it out there -- I would SO love to see goal sometime in the foreseeable future!
Maybe after that weird little jump up goes away completely, I will see some new lows.... oh, please??? Please??? |

Helllloooooo ladies! I will be joining you this week - I'm loading right now and tomorrow (I'll spare you the details since I know how hard it is to hear loading stories while on P2). I'll be VLCD1 as of Wednesday. I did Simeon's Protocol by the book last round, but had symptoms of protein deficiency. This round I'll be doing Simeon's Protocol veggies and fruit, gluten-free pretzels (because wheat defeats me), and upping my protein to 150g a meal instead of 100, for a total of 300g a day. We will see what the results are.
