Oh -- and shoes! Platform anything ... always! Even my flip-flops and sneakers have platforms.

I would love to hunt down and personally thank Lady Gaga for bringing back the ridiculously high platform shoe -- there are knockoff versions of her shoes available everywhere this year, inexpensively, and I want them all!!

(I actually have a huge fetish for the designer Alexander McQueen, who designed most of the shoes Gaga actually wears. )

I saw on the red-hots thread where you are considering a fast day or two, Cheryl -- if you plan them in advance, I will fast with you. It is good to have a fasting buddy, and I would love to get in a couple of fasting days before I hit goal.

I'm doing a round of the OxyCleanse right now (not fasted, just taking it in the evening, and only eating in the mornings) -- but would benefit from a couple days of that fully fasted, I'm sure.

This is my twice-yearly (or so) cleanse -- which always makes me feel better on the whole. Since I will be getting into truly virgin weight (as in, many years since I've been that weight) soon, it is definitely a good time for cleansing.

Mini I'll never forget the outfit my mother wore at least weekly in the 70s at home. Thick (1/3 inch at least) polyester yellow fabric. Overalls kind of that stopped at the knee gaucho fashion. With 6-inch blue dots and green pinstripes running thru the dots. That outfit is still burned on my retinas...but in a good way.

My formative years were in the 80s...such a preppy pro-establishment era. You had to have your izods and your guess & jordache jeans. Penny loafers and ballerina flats. This lack of fashion variety still makes me overly cautious.

aaaargh! You're making me feel old! The 60s were my high school and college years! (graduated college in '66) I really thought my pedal pushers with a tied-under-the-bust white shirt was an absolutely cool outfit

And I LIKE waistbands (that hit the waist!) on pants - have never gotten comfortable with the low-riding pants, can't seem to figure out where they're supposed to hang (and I keep pulling them up to my waist, which creates a real disaster!). My current problem is finding underpants that don't show above my pants - think I probably pull them up too high, too

Mini-skirts hit it big when I was pregnant with my first child (she was born 1970), so I never really had any - but I do remember pleated skirts rolled up at the waist (and unrolled in a hurry when we girls had to kneel on the floor and our skirts had to touch...) - we actually showed our (gasp!) knees - along with knee socks.

And tight jeans? We weren't allowed to wear pants, let alone jeans, to high school. The boys had to wear regular pants (with shirts buttoned and tucked in, and a belt) - and we girls had to wear dresses/skirts ...

I really like high waists too. But I have more of a boyish figure rather than the hourglass I had in my 20s. So low rise means jiggle on the waist, loose in the rear. I like to wear boy short style underwear. Not as low as bikinis and with some horizontal coverage that covers my problem areas.

You're younger than my mama. I've got some cute pictures of her in pencil skirts when she was dating my dad - those came back in fashion in my high school years as well. She told me she had a poodle skirt and I WISH there was a picture of her in it!

She also told me jeans were for wearing in the morning while doing your farm chores. No one would have dared wear farm clothing to school!

I remember the rule that got broken the most during my junior high...not wearing socks or hose with shoes. Boys & girls got busted for it.

LOL... Paula, you and I must be almost exactly the same age -- I remember the whole "Preppy Handbook" era of dressing, and we took it very seriously! That was junior high and high school for me.... but I also ventured into the tight jeans with stiletto heels/Madonna inspired fashion stuff a bit later on. Oh, the blue sparkly eye shadow, and the pink blush! Horrid good fun.

I actually bought a copy of the "Preppy Handbook" a few years ago -- it's a hoot! I think most of the irony was lost on me when I was 13...lol! I went through an ironic-preppy phase a while ago, complete with the knee socks and the penny loafers (I found platform penny loafers!) -- and I still love to rock the argyle and plaid from time to time.

The low rise jeans/underwear peek is really a problem! I wear a long shirt or tank top, tucked in, when wearing low rise. If I am wearing a shorter top or sweater, I wear the tank top underneath.

Even if I get my six pack in time for the summer, I still have no desire to show my stomach in public (except maybe on the beach) -- and I certainly don't want anyone seeing my undies -- or worse yet, a plumbers butt!

I have some pictures of my mom when she was younger (she was born in '33) -- wow, what a stunner she was! She was a total style maven all through the years -- there are some rockin' pics of her in the craziest outfits in the 70s, when I was little.

My grandma lived with us, and sewed most of our clothes -- she was always game for making something in the latest hot style or polyester print ... how I wish I had my mom's clothes from that era now! I'd wear them in a hot second!

I find post-90s fashion really dull. Seriously, dull. Every year it is the same variations on the same themes, and they bore me.

The only real exceptions come in some of the really wacky couture designs, and the clothes that the subcultures pick up and appropriate -- I'm thinking a lot about this right now, since I am writing my thesis on Steampunk fashion (specifically, the corset) -- so I will be pretty steeped in fashion history and theory for the next few months.

There are definitely days that I wish I had gone for the MFA in fashion design rather than studio art ... but done is done.

If I go on for a Ph.D. ( a long shot, but not out of the realm of possibility) it will probably be in cultural studies with an emphasis on fashion theory. My thesis advisor is finishing her doctorate in that right now, and I love the things she is reading and studying.

You ladies are cracking me up! I don't know about anyone else, but money was an issue in our family. I was the youngest of 5 girls and I didn't wear a pair of jeans until I was 12 or 13. They would always get cut off into shorts before they came anywhere near my size. I was so not cool in school.

We tended to wear whatever we had. I do remember wearing T'Shirts and tank tops that said things like, "I'll try anything once, maybe twice." My closest friend wore a similar shirt that said, "You can take away my gusto, but don't touch my Busch."

We wore tube tops (once we went swimming in Rhode Island and the wave took it down to my waist. I was so busy fighting for air that I didn't notice!) The "clogs" (platforms with closed toes) were big. I still kind of fancy them and snatch them up when I see them at Goodwill. I will someday be rocking those again.

I still to this day miss high-top white tennis shoes. If they ever come back around, I'm buying myself a life-time's worth.

I will probably never be into the low-rise jeans or pants. I find things that don't actually go up to my waist very annoying. If I feel like I continually have to tug and adjust something, it's going in the heap of clothes that will never again see the light of day.

Other than that, there isn't much that I can remember of the 70's and early 80's. Hehehe.

I still love clogs, Cheryl! I have two pairs at the moment, but am still looking for that perfect, really comfortable pair.

I'm calling it a day, eating wise, at about 750 cals today -- not hungry, so why not?

I think I am going in for another higher protein day tomorrow, and then will play it by ear from there... I may do a fast day, or maybe I will just go right back to the fat fast. Or, if the scale is moving, I may just stick to the higher protein and slightly lower calories.

I do fancy the idea of getting in a couple of good fasted days of this cleanse though, so I will probably be doing that in the very near future.

I'm doing some body "tune up" stuff right now anyhow...lol. I need to stay out of the sun (and want to stay out of the public!) while this facial peel heals -- and doing the cleanse, and so forth. I'm about to dye my roots and do some dread maintenance too.

I think it is hair, and then some alterations, for the rest of the day. It feels good to be getting around to doing some of these tasks that have been sitting unfinished forever.

I hope to get back to doing my wellbox (home endermologie system) soon, and also do a good dermaroll all over, starting with the body. I may actually roll my legs today -- I can't do the face until the peel is completely healed, which will be a couple of weeks.

This last ten lbs is going to leave me with some saggy skin for a while, so I want to minimize that as much as I can.

Oh, you aren't the only one! My twin & I were the youngest of 4 girls. So it was hand-me downs till I was 12 or so, when we seemed to suddenly have more money. I think that's when my eldest sister moved out My first pair of jeans (actually my first pair of pants I remember being bought for me and not handed down) was in 78 when I was in 3rd grade. Light denim flairs, with 3 satin stripes down the side. Oh, how I loved wearing those jeans and ditching the dresses! And yes, half the dresses were the ones my mom sewed. Too bad I didn't appreciate it at the time.

I still love flares...they are excellent at helping a short woman look just an inch or two taller! Also great when a trouser makes you look like a squat pencil.

I'd love to do a day or 2 as well with you guys. I go to NY in a week and really want to stay in the mindset I'm in now. Fasting ALWAYS helps with that.

Only up .4... I can live with that, so clean eating today for me. My LDW was 149.6 so I'm good.

Mini...I was laughing out load reading your post on the retro clothes. That's cool for you but I love all the new styles. I just started wearing low rise jeans cause they don't give me a muffin top (much)! LOL.

Oh, don't get me wrong, Alaska -- not everyone appreciates my sense of "style" -- lol. I have polyester shirts that can send my sweetie running for cover Pull out my huge, glam starlet glasses with frames from the 60s, and it is enough to give most people a headache -- or a hernia! Sometimes the uglier and the more out of style a garment is, the more I love it. (There are some BIG exceptions to that rule, though... )

Glad for the small gain Alaska -- makes that evil dessert you mention seem pretty worthwhile in my book

I admit to liking the lowrise jeans myself -- get just the right cut, and they can be really flattering.

I also love flares and bellbottoms, Paula -- worn with big shoes, they really lengthen my legs visually. I also have a couple pairs of skinny jeans I really like -- the key is to get just the right cut, fit, etc. I find that the placement and slant of the back pockets can either make a butt look a lot bigger, or a lot smaller -- (and I like the ones that make it look smaller, generally speaking. )

I'm in a weird, but excellent, groove right now -- very little hunger, no desire at all to cheat (even with all the goodies around the house) -- and I just want to ride it out for all its worth.

I'm certain that I can return to school at goal (neither art school nor teaching begins until mid-January) and it will be so nice to be focusing on maintaining rather than losing more.

Tay -- I hear you on the not wanting to wait to restart -- and I say do what feels best to you. There are definite advantages to a proper p3 -- and a lot of people seem to have more success long-term doing it that way -- but I am also a very impatient person!

Either way, you'll get going soon enough, and I know you will be a big success on this next round as well!

Not me! They make me look like a Clydesdale! It really sucked having hand-me-downs all the time growing up, didn't it? I remember getting mercilessly teased with my plaid polyester pants and out-dated tops. It was not a good start in life.

WOW!! You all are cracking me up with the clothing talk! I went to private school for most of my schooling and had to wear uniforms. And then I remember jeans and t-shirts of the 90s. Still a bit of big hair and scrunchies. And then we had the banana clips for the hair. Those things were terrible.

I really like stylish clothes now though I really can't afford them. If I can wear low rise jeans again, I will, but I think my babies made that impossible for me. I like a good pair of boots-tall with a high heel or a nice pair of high heels. DH is 13" taller than me, so I like a shoe with a nice high heel. And I LOVE shoes. Before kids I know I had well over 100 pairs!

Anyway, am starting to feel a little better. The swelling has gone down, but the pain is still there. I am sick of eating soup, yogurt and ice cream. I really want a burger! I made some coconut flour cheddar biscuits and i hope they are soft enough to eat. I can only open my mouth so much.

I don't think I am losing any weight which is a little annoying. I am not concerned about it, but I haven't eaten much in 4 days. How can I not lose any weight??

Our body's are maddeningly efficient energy using and storing machines! They defy all logic and mathematics. I'm sorry you are still in pain. I hope the cheddar biscuits are soft enough! Just put a little piece at a time in your mouth and let them dissolve.

I used to think that if I had gone to a school that required uniforms, it would have put all the kids on an "even playing field." I think it's a good idea. I wish more schools would require uniforms. It would take much of the peer pressure off of kids who can't afford to "keep up with the Jone's."

I'm thinking a high protein day for me tomorrow, and then maybe a fast day on Saturday and maybe part of Sunday too ... how does that sound for you?
Weekends won't work for me because we always do breakfast as a family. Dinner I can miss, but not breakfast I'm probably going to shoot for Monday and tuesday instead, or I can do tomorrow, though I don't know if I'm mentally prepared for a day so soon

UGH! I could barely taste the biscuit and it was just too much work. So I will just stick with soup, yogurt and ice cream until I can really chew.

Funny you say that about the uniforms. I didn't like it as a kid, but now as a parent, I wish my kids wore uniforms. So much easier to decide what they will wear to school. And it does take the pressure off of the kids.

Yup, we wore uniforms. I hated it at the time but once I hit high school I realized they weren't so bad

I can do Monday and Tuesday, Disney -- no worries! I think I need another day of protein before a fast, since I've been so low protein for about a week... and I am not mentally prepared for tomorrow, either.

Monday is great, since everyone is out of the house that day, and no one will be on my case about it, too It is nobody's business what I eat, but my roommate (being eating disordered herself) is totally preoccupied with what everyone around her eats and doesn't. I'd rather keep the fasting private, so there aren't any attempts to sabotage, or constant questions, etc.

I understand. With my Ed history my Dh never says anything about what I eat/don't eat but when he notices I don't eat for long periods he questions me. It's more annoying than anything!

So Monday and Tuesday it is

Gremom -- my sweetie is a full foot taller than I am, too -- hence the love of platforms...lol! Actually, my love of platforms predates this relationship, but I'm sure it does have to do with being short.

I'm sorry you are in so much pain! The body tends to hang on to weight when it is healing from an injury -- plus, antibiotics are notorious stallers, and you are dealing with TOM.... I bet you get a nice drop once the healing is further along and your TOM is gone.

For clothing... do you ever shop second hand? It is totally astounding what I can get at my local Salvation Army for almost nothing (and I get to support a really good cause in the process) ! I rarely buy new clothing, actually -- and when I do it is from somewhere like Ross/Marshall's/TJ Maxx..... once in a great while I will treat myself to something special that I really like from somewhere else, but that is by far the exception.

Dude, Cheryl -- I have a pair of huge, clunky, furry platform boots that really DO make me look like a Clydesdale! I happen to like that look

I was always glad I didn't have to wear a uniform to school. I see the merit of them now, but as a kid... no way!

Kids will always find reasons to be mean to other kids, sadly ... if it isn't clothing, it's appearance, or athletic ability, or an accent, etc. etc. I wonder sometimes how we learn to be so savage at such a young age?

And it's starting even younger now and it's MUCH worse.
