Coconut Oil on P3

What kind of coconut oil do you use on P3? I bought one in a health food store that is called Dr. Bronner's Magic "All -One" fresh pressed virgin coconut oil - whole kernel unrefined. I honestly do not have any idea what that means but can I assume that it will be ok to use. Am I correct in thinking that the body does not digest coconut oil or is that some other type of oil that I read about. And does it really taste like coconut if using it while baking?

I only have 4 more days to go until I am entering P3 territory (9/24) and I am actually excited to start. I have been through several rounds before but did not complete any properly (either cheated on P2 or flubbed up P3).

This time around I started the VLCD part of P2 on 9/1 and have not had many deviations with the exception of a diet soda once in a while and having a little cheese on my salad the other day when we went out for dinner! I did ask them to eliminate the french fries on it and I picked off the carrots. Eventhough that is not strict protocol, I am extremely happy that I did not cave in to 3 different family "pizza nights" or snacking on junk food.

I am doing a short round, planning on doing the 3 weeks or longer of P3 and then jumping back on to P2. I lost 12 lbs and have 2 more effective protocol days to lose. It won't take me down much further but maybe I will at least hit 13 lbs lost this round.

Sorry to ramble on about my P2 round but I didn't feel like posting that information in another thread.

Kelly, I have been using coconut oil in P3--I made "cocoa crack" which is nice when I feel like I want something chocolatey, and I made (unsuccessfully) lemon truffles--the oil and lemon juice separated and the resulting concoction just didn't work.

I have had an estimate of 2 to 4 Tbsp daily.

I bought Spectrum coconut oil refined, organic and it has no flavor, which I like. I also purchased an unrefined variety which is supposed to have coconut flavor to try in my next batch of chocolate.

I haven't educated myself about any benefits of coconut oil, but I sure like cocoa crack!

I also planned on "cycling"--doing a round of P3 after a short round of P2 and then re-entering P2 to lose "that last 10 pounds", but I have a good number of pants that fit me right now, and I'm curious to see if I can stabilize adding back in some starches in P4, so I've decided to do a full 3 weeks of P3, then a full 3 weeks of P4 to see what happens.

I have this fear that I will be repeating hCG to lose that last 10 over and over again. I really want to make sure maintaining for me is "livable" and that I can sustain this present weight before I lose any more.

Best of luck in your P3!

Thanks Garnet, good luck to you too!

So, the refined coconut oil doesn't have a coconut flavor. I will have to see if I can purchase some of that. I am excited to make some "cocoa crack" in the next few days.

I am undecided on if I want to do weeks of P4 or just go right back to P2 after P3. I guess, I will just have to see how I feel and how things are going in the next couple of weeks.

I also fear of having to do HCG repeatedly to get and keep the last 10 lbs off as well.

Do not consume refined coconut oil. You always want "Virgin" Refined means it has been processed. (Heated)

Here is a little article from a website comparing the two:

What are its advantages over Refined Coconut Oil? Well! Let’s check them one by one;

Taste: Unrefined Coconut Oil is tastier than the Refined Coconut Oil as it is neither bleached nor refined.
Flavour: Again, Unrefined Coconut Oil has a beautiful flavour of that of fresh coconuts which is absent in Refined Coconut Oil, since it is deodorized.
Nutrients: It is more nutritious than the refined one, being least process and subjected to least heat. It is richer in proteins (this is almost absent in refined oil), vitamins and anti oxidants.
Natural: It does not undergo any chemical processing, unlike Refined Coconut Oil which is treated with Sodium Hydroxide and bleached. So, it has that more natural touch.
Wholeness: It is wholesome coconut oil.

Thank you Emerald. I have no idea there was such a difference! So, then I did good with my choice!

I made some "cocoa crack" with the unrefined coconut oil today, and if you like the taste of coconut, it's really good!

I think I'm going to alternate between the unrefined (coconut flavor) oil and the refined (neutral flavor) oil to make my cocoa crack for variety.

I've also read where people added nuts to their cocoa crack, so I tried one with a salted roasted almond and it was quite good! I kind of like that salty flavor in my chocolate.

Now I just have to limit myself to how many I can eat in one day!

I made some yesterday too and OMG it was delicious. I ate WAY too many of them and then today didn't turn out too well either as I mentioned in my other post. So back to P2 tomorrow!
