What exactly is HCG?

So my dad heard about this great new diet where his friend lost 20 lbs on it, and thinking of me he asked if I wanted to do a 6 week round with him. From what I could tell by the attachment name it was the HCG diet. I've seen some of us forumers on it and it's clearly working for some of us, so I want more information. I hit Google... and... there were so many sites, all selling products, that I couldn't tell which information to trust.

Does anyone have any links to a GOOD information source, preferably one that isn't shilling anything, that will explain concisely what HCG is? I'll be going to my doctor's in a few hours so if this is something that needs doc supervision I'll be able to ask him about starting it. Also, I have PCOS - is this contrandicated for women with PCOS? Or is it a therapy for them?

There's sticky at the top of the forum with all the info. about the program. Here's a link that was given to me when I began the protocol.

I think there are ladies here with PCOS that have had excellent success.

Also, if you decide to go for it, you can order drops or pellets here at Netriton.
Fast and affordable shipping

A lot of us use the Intermountain Brand.

Intermountain HCG Pellets

This web site forum has a lot of good threads, links, posts about the plan without the peddling

To summarize:

P2: You have 2 loading days (while taking your HCG or hHCG) followed by 21-? days of eating the the vlcd (in P&I - see above) and then 48 hours for hHCG and 72 hrs for HCG while following the same vlcd menu while the HCG leaves your body.

P3: 3 weeks (for first round anyway) of eating whatever you would like except sugar and starches. Your goal is stabilize your weigh in this phase which means you want to remain in the "window" (2 lbs +/- of your last dosing weight)

P4: 3 weeks (for first round anyway) Eat whatever you would like and slowly add sugars and starches. You are to stay within your window and if you go above it you will need to do a correction day.

Thank you, both for the links and the information. I wasn't sure what posts actually had starting information (I thought P2 meant phase 2 - and I wanted to start at the beginning not halfway through). I'll speak to my doc about this when I see him in a half hour.

P2 does mean Phase 2 -- weird, huh? Dr. Simeons doesn't have phase names -- he just lists the details of the protocol. Kevin Trudeau's book gave them names, and everyone uses them as a convenient shorthand. Phase 1 is a detox phase, getting you ready to start the protocol -- almost nobody does it. So, P2 is really the first step!
