Anyone have a VitaMix?

Contemplating getting one as a prize once I reach my goal but want to know if they're really worth the price.

I bought one last year and I don't regret it. I got it at Costco. I use it every day in P2 for my smoothies. I don't use it that much in P3/P4 though it seems.

Love it!! I got mine from q v c when it was a today's special value and have not regretted it at all. I used the easy pay so I wouldn't have to fork out the money all at once too. They are pretty pricy. I too use it for my spinach smoothie on P2. Really pulverizes that spinach. My DS uses is almost daily for smoothies as well. I have not branched out yet and done other things with it, but hear it is fabulous for making almond flour, almond butter, and soups and so many things. You will not regret getting one too!!

I just got the model that they sell at costco. There was no choice in the matter. I did get the extra dry-blender-top to mix dry stuff but I have never taken it out of the box. I have made smoothies galore with it and it does really mix everything together well. I have a pretty good quality blender and definitely the vitamix is more thorough. I have made soups too, but remember any meat you add has to be already cooked, as it doesn't get that hot. I made some raw ground chicken breast with italian spices for one of my P2's and cooked that mixture inside cabbage rolls and that was a treat also. I was never able to successfully make "ice cream" like they show in the videos online. I couldn't get the hang of that, exactly *how* frozen things were supposed to be to come out like they show. So I settle for smoothies. LOL

Next I'd like to learn how to make real blended coffee drinks. I never know how much of anything to mix with anything else

Dang, I forgot to mention that costco only sells them when they do the demonstration things for them. You can check online for the area you are in and it will tell you the dates they're scheduled for. If you got someone savvy at the front desk when you go in, they can tell you as well.

they have a model at our store now on the shelf. There wasn't a demo going on, but the booth thingie looks like they're going to have one. It is the no-frills 5200 package (no extra containers, knives, spatulas etc) It's black. I'm going to talk over with Chef DS and see what he thinks. We may want the grey one since our appliances are all stainless steel. Or red. Red might be fun. I may just go ahead and order one with the extra containers since he'll probably use it a lot.

I have a Vita-Mix and I just love it! I used to make green smoothies for breakfast and my former blender just couldn't take the daily use, or get the greens blended as well as this one (and it was way louder).

I think it's a great investment for someone like myself, who is using it daily. I use it in P2 to blend ice, water, a whole peeled orange with vanilla stevia to make a frozen orange drink, as well as mock frappucinos. Sometimes, if I just can't eat the vegetable I will add it to a fruit and make a smoothie so I can drink the veggie.

I don't know which model I have, but I use it everday.

I use it for my lemonade in P2 also. Take a whole lemon and peel it. Throw in the VitaMix with ice and water and stevia---viola!! Lemonade No bits and pieces in it with the Vitamix too.

I just ordered one. I'm excited. My kids will use it a lot as well. I think it will help me stay focused on preparing good food at home after I'm done with P2 and P3. I am determined to keep eating as well I have been, even when I can eat more. Can't wait to get it!

My new machine arrived this afternoon. I just made a smooooooooooothie....and boy...is it ever! I am really looking forward to my upcoming P3. I have a recipe I love for broccoli/stilton soup that I think will work perfectly in it. I'm a real soup person...so this machine is going to make me happy that way. The kids are going to enjoy it for coffee drinks and smoothies.

I am SO glad I listened to Miss Dawn and the rest of y'all! This is an amazing device!

Love mine -- after hating my previous blender forever because it wasn't strong enough, I begged Mr. Porkfat to get me one for Christmas. After having me sign some paperwork that I wouldn't punish him for giving me an APPLIANCE for Christmas, he gingerly bought me the basic model --

It's really fantastic -- handles tough things like crushing ice, frozen stuff, etc. The motor is as powerful as the one in my car.

Definitely worth the investment!

Diva, there is an entire vitamix thread over on the LCF recipe folder. I'll see if I can come up with a link.

Charski, one of our resident cooking gurus and a lovely lady, has one and posts lots of recipes.

Oh my gosh YES they are worth the price!

I have been wanting one for about a year but my hubbie has been saying no way to a $500 blender! My walking buddy got hers about a month ago and has been estatic about it. She was gone last weekend and said I could borrow it while she was gone.

I pulled out all the stops to show how much we NEED a Vitamix. When my hubbie had great tasting meals in front of him all weekend he was singing a different tune.

Yesterday I got the thumbs up to buy one.
I was able to get a great deal on a reconditioned with this Vitamix promotion code and not pay shipping.

Now I am so excited to get it I just might lose some sleep over it while I wait! Fingers crossed that it won't take too long.

Well, after A LOT of thought and comparisons, I decided to go with the Blendtec Wildside with the 4 inch blade. If it had been between the Vitamix and the older Blendtec model with the 3 inch blade I would have definitely chosen the Vitamix but this new 3 quart container with the 4 inch blade is really amazing. Watched a few demos of Vitamix vs Blendtec and this is the one that kinda sealed it for me-
I got mine for $379 with a full 7 year warranty for all parts and it came with the older pitcher but she threw in the new 3oz one for free...so all-in-all it was a really good deal. I'm not totally closing my mind to the Vitamix though--I figure I'll use the Blendtec for at least a month and then make a decision about whether or not to keep it (Costco will take it back after any amount of time if you're not completely satisfied).

This sounds delicious, but I didn't think cottage cheese and cocoa powder were on P2 protocol. How many of you have had this and successfully lost weight?

congrats on your machine, Nichole! I bet you'll love it. I looked long and hard (because my cheffing son uses Blendtech at work) and we decided the other way, but they are both awesome machines. I haven't stopped using mine! It's so easy to clean that it's just not even worth thinking about doing stuff another way. I think I'll be using my Cuisinart for slicing and grating, and very likely for kneading dough because it's really good at that, but will probably use the Vitamix for everything else. I can hardly wait to get to P3 and do some stuff with it that I can't have quite yet. It's pretty hilarious how exciting a countertop appliance can be!!!

I have many times!! And I lose just fine while incorporating it in my diet. And yes, cottage cheese is on the list of P2 foods. It was an alternative to meat when Dr S says you cannot stomach meat anymore. He includes eggs on that list as well as the cottage cheese. The cocoa powder is a spice and therefore P2 friendly. We have had these discussions about these issues many times on this board and as always, your mileage may vary!!!! But I am a total protocol girl---if it is not on the food list I don't eat it, and I do this shake at times. It is a nice change when you tire of chicken, chicken, chicken LOL.
