I need help from the fashionistas!
So, I've lost a little weight, but I still have a lot to lose. I never wear dresses but feel like I might want to get one for an upcoming trip. I'm 5'3" and a dreaded apple shape.
Would a maxi dress look ok on me? I usually try to disguise my fat in trapeze style or empire waists and end up looking pregnant. I have decent legs though, so don't mind shorter, and I love high sexy shoes of all kinds. Any suggestions on what might be flattering? |

This is the dress I had in mine. It's kimono style. (Yes, I still love black!)
![]() What do you think? I love this one too, but I would need something to wear over it. ![]() Or this one: ![]() Last edited by Balance101; 08-17-2011 at 07:49 AM.. |

I like the kimono style, and how about getting it shortened a little? I agree on empire style.

I like the bottom one too. Maybe it's because it's shorter.

Love the bottom one for you. Plus, the cinched waist is the best kind.

I vote bottom one too. May I ask the nature of the trip? I mean, hiking, museums, dinners out to nice restaurants, National Park? If you want to buy it for a trip, the theme of the trip may have a bearing on that.

Red your post number is #666!
![]() Sure, we are going to a casino the first night and I was hoping to wear it there, and we are staying at a small country Inn the next night, and would like to wear it out to dinner that night. (Is that bad? :blush |

Heck no that's not bad? Really then, any of those dresses would be fine, but I still prefer the bottom one. And you can wear some cool silver jewelry with it!
Ok. Wait. I know I'm a little slow. Is that ACTUALLY you in all 3 pictures? Wow! |

Oh. LOL. I saw the signature under it and I was in a hurry. Maybe it's the lack of calories clouding my thinking.

Definitely the last one. If you've got decent legs (which I don't!!) go w/ the shorter one!! The longer dresses might not be as flattering on your petite frame!
Have a great time!! I'm off to look for a dress to wear to my BIL and brother's weddings this Fall. Taking my dd's (11 and 8) who have STRONG opinions along. Should be a blast! ![]() |

I love all three--is there ANYTHING sexier than a black dress, I ask you?
I guess I'm alone in preferring the middle one. I think that halter or cut-away shoulders just create a long, narrow look--a vertical line rather than a horizontal one--that is so flattering. Truly, though--all three are beautiful! |

They're all cute. But if you have nice legs, flaunt em! Try black tights, black heels or boots, and a swingy above-the-knee black dress (which could be a halter or kimono style, but not a cinched waist if you're going above the knee). Miniskirts with tights and boots look amazing on women even if they're heavy in the bottom or belly.
So this kimono dress would look great on you, especially if you wore black tights or stocking: Mossimo Supply Co. Juniors Kimono Sleeve Dress - Assorted Colors : Target This dress would look even better: Xhilaration Juniors Skater Dress - Black : Target |

I like the bottom one best as well. The top one is cute, but @ 5'3", you might need to hem it (coming from a 5'4"-er who has hem some maxi dresses). The bottom dress can carry you into fall as well, just add some tights, boots and a cardi (my winter wardrobe).
