Whitefish

Can you tell me which fish are considered whitefish? I know it says frest whitefish, but I bought some frozen tilapia. Do you think that will be o.k.? I've already made the mistake of eating turkey (thought it was protocol), so I don't want to stall things anymore by eating the wrong types of fish.

Thanks~Lyn

Tilapia is fine as is cod, haddock, halibut, sea bass, and snapper. I also really enjoy swai aka white roughy because it is very mild tasting and not fishy at all. It is a very flaky whitefish. It is a type of catfish but is very low in calories and fat. Some people say you shouldn't eat it because it is catfish (which is NOT protocol) but I consider myself pretty strict protocol and ate it through both of my rounds. (I lost ~50 pounds in two rounds.) Welcome and good luck!

Thanks so much for all your help! First, I find out I've been eating turkey, which is not on protocol, and then, I ate Mahi Mahi, which none of you mentioned, so I'm assuming it's not a whitefish. It's no wonder I have had very slow weight loss the last part of week 1 and the first part of week 2. In the last 2 days I have lost 1.8 lbs. THAT is inspiring!

I had some tilapia (frozen, not fresh) tonight for dinner and found it to be delicious. I'm so excited about the next few weeks and want to finish this strong and maintain. I've done 1 round of injections (last August), lost about 30 lbs, but gained 20 back. I'm NOT going to do that this time! I have osteoarthritis and am only 45. My girls are 14 and 11 and I really want to be able to dance @ their weddings, so I MUST lose the weight! Also, I'm tired of not wanting to go out because I don't want people to see how heavy I've gotten. In high school, I weighed about 100 lbs and my highest now was 205. Not good for a 5'3" frame.
Thanks again~ Lyn

I've gotten mixed answers about the mahi mahi. I had it a few times during my first round and didn't have any trouble with it. I also like cod, tilapia, and haddok. And I always use frozen fish.

My husband was VP of a big seafood company for many years. (He spent lots of time on Dutch Harbor, Alaska, where Deadliest Catch was filmed.) Trust me on this--most "fresh" fish you buy at a grocery store counter, if you look at the small letters on the sign, is "fresh from frozen." Frozen fish is actually fresher. Commercial fisherman typically clean and flash-freeze the fish right on the boats, so that fish has only been out of the water for minutes when it's frozen.

The exception to this would be high end restaurants and gourmet grocers who actually fly in fresh fish on ice that hasn't been frozen yet. But really, frozen fish is generally of very high quality, as far as "freshness" goes.

I LOVE when Kroger has those deals! I'll have to watch for them in the ads. Another .8 loss lastnight and I'm feeling good. Tomorrow will end my 2nd week and I've almost lost 11 lbs. Hoping for another good loss tonight! Thanks all! I'm so glad I found y'all! ~Lyn
