Stress

I like (a lot) the quote: Adversity is inevitable, stress is optional.

If we define adversity as what the world does to us, and stress as what we do to ourselves as a result of that adversity, then in most cases, our response to adversity is a choice...a difficult one if we choose to rise above it and seek some immediately stability and peace. Somewhat "easier" is the choice to go with the adversity...sort of wallow in it and take our time picking ourselves out of the grody goo to get back to a sense of more smooth sailing. But we've all seen those people (they are my heroes) who are able to remain cool, calm and competent under terrible pressures, whether they are short term dangerous situations or long, debilitating disease processes.

So...what the heck am I talking about this for?

Because my doctor brought some really important research to my attention when he was initially explaining this diet to me. He wanted me to understand fully the importance of remaining rested and relaxed. (I'm not famous for either of those things) So he had me read up on the steroid hormonal cascade stress response in humans. Bottom line...even the little frustrations we experience because we aren't losing as much as we like, or we post a gain, if allowed to escalate, can cause a whole slew of hormonal response ("cascade" is a pretty impressive word!) that causes my body to hold onto everything it currently sees as an asset (including its fat stores) with all its might! NOOOOOoooooooo.....that's exactly what I don't want, is to scare my bod into thinking it needs to hang on by fretting over the scale.

My doctor's thoughts were, if you can be relaxed with it, you can weigh every day. If not, weigh once a week. If that is not great, put the scale in your garage, do the diet, and come into the office to weigh at the end of the month.

P3 and P4 are different...you need to weigh to learn what you can eat and not. But be careful with your feelings with daily weigh-ins in P2. If you get upset when the daily number isn't stellar, you may really shoot yourself in the foot. I'm in the midst of menopause, so TOM is more like Time of the Whenever for me these days, but for you younger, regular ladies...you might consider not weighing that week. If you're staying on plan and doing your deal, the scale may be an unnecessary impediment to your progress if it aggravates you to see numbers do what you don't want them to do.

All of which is to say...y'all have a lovely day. Do something nice for yourself...an ice cold wine glass of cucumber lemon water and lit candle in the bathtub...or sumpin'. Whatever makes you go "Aaahhhh" and exhale. You're the most beautiful (inside and out) and special group of women I've ever come into contact with in years on the web. Find the peace in the little moments, relax and thanks for being my buddies during this journey.

You're welcome!

Hope you're all off to a nice start this morning! I'm going to tackle the "big picture" in my closet (think Fibber McGee). For a woman who, up until one month ago had pretty much been wearing the same six outfits for a couple of years (would NOT buy clothes to accommodate that body I couldn't stand being in), I have a ridiculous amount of stuff in my closet! I've made my bed and collected my big garbage bags to sort and separate and haul away. Ready, set....Wheeeeeeethisisgonnabefun!

Stress is a killer

This is so very true, in fact I was watching a very interesting show last night on PBS on the effects of stress on animals and how the body reacts, and the research showed that stress cloggs your ateries! Amazing study. It made me rethink how I handle stress in my daily life.

Please take a look at this link and the corresponding videos, it starts off slow but is very interesting and I got a lot out of it....

PDiva,
I wanted to tell you I like your siggy..."I can have that later"...reminds me of an excellent book, The Thin Commandments. Another good quote is " I know what that tastes like".
