Milk Thistle?

Does anyone take this? I've read a few posts where some individuals had elevated liver enzymes and it doesn't sound like it was from hcg.

Edited to add: I'm thinking of coming clean with my doctor about hcg. I'm not due for a physical until next year, but may check in with her later this year to get my blood work checked out. She is absolutely clueless about hcg.

On R1 (April) I took Milk Thistle as a preventative. I have high BP & BS, so didn't want my body to work harder than it does already. I often use herbs and they work very well. Burdock for kidney or urinary problems, cinnamon for blood sugar, etc. - NOT a doctor here! Just giving my experiences with herbs.

Yes, I take milk thistle. It helped get my elevated liver enzymes (pre-hcg) back to where they belonged. It's also great as a hangover preventative!

I take it sometimes for its detox effects. I feel it helps my liver function better at burning fat and cleansing.

I am not a doctor and I don't play one on t.v.

My meds sometimes cause my liver numbers to be high so i've started to take it and my numbers have been normal since.

I read somewhere on the net that it can harm the liver when I typed "dangers of milk thistle." I need to stop doing that because I've read nothing but positive things and just about everything has some danger to it.

Do you take this every day? I heard something about there were no effects when taken up to 41 months.

Heck no. I take nothing every day. I take some things for awhile, maybe a week at a time or two to get over stuff then I forget.

I'm a vitamin-rebel. I had healthfoody type parents and I hate to take pills.

Do you two ladies take this every day? If so, how long have you been taking it?

TIA

I take 2000mg of milk thistle extract every day, more if I have been drinking (sometimes up to 10,000) or if I am taking a lot of meds. I have gone on and off milk thistle over the years (I am a supplement junkie) but this is one where I can tell the difference if I stop taking it. I'd say that I have been on it steadily (mostly aside from here or there daily) for about a year now. No issues that I know of or can see unless I STOP taking it.

I've been taking it for about a year now, maybe 3 times a week just b/c I forget to take it every day. You can get a great deal on it online from the company that manufactures it, Puritan. If you Google it you might get a better discount thru a parnership. I got 5 bottles of 90 count 1000 mg tablets for $20. =)
Trader Joes makes it too.

In all serious, this. I take it every day, even when not on HCG. My husband takes it every day because I want to make sure that the medications he takes for his epilepsy do not damage his liver. So far, so good. I can't remember what brand I take, but I believe it is Jarrows, and about 150mg.

I'm sorry to hear of your husband's epilepsy. Is the medication helping? A little over two years ago, I had a grand mal seizure while I was at work (thank God I wasn't driving and there were people around). When I went to the neurologist, he told me I'm not epileptic and he doesn't know why it happened to me. He said it can pretty much happen to anyone. WTH?

I've been taking a generic brand of Dilantin ever since and I just bought some milk thistle today. That was an experience that completely changed my life.
