I don't have one for weight loss; I just go look at my belly in the mirror. It usually does the trick.

For tasks, like tiling my own bathrooms, or doing plumbing around the house, or applying for a job that's not "within" my experience range...

I say to myself, "Are you at least as smart as that guy?" thinking of the last guy I paid $85/hour to do something in my house. YES, I am.!

I absolutely love one I read here on LCF once:

I WILL PERSIST UNTIL I SUCCEED.

I like it so much, it's taped to various surfaces all over my house!

"I can have that later"

is pretty much my mantra now

Just as a life motto:

"Enjoy the process" is my favorite. I'm trying to make that fit this situation. I am enjoying some aspects of this process. It is quite fun and wonderful to visit with you great folks...and I would never have come across you were it not for the "process" I'm going through. I have enjoyed the flavor of food quite a bit more since I started eating so little of it. Apples are flat out miraculous, aren't they? I like Jonagold...so crisp, sweet, and juicy. I was running around today getting ready to leave on our trip tomorrow. I had a nail apt around my lunch time. I wrapped my cold chicken breast, which my devoted hubs grilled for me last night, in a piece of waxed paper and ate it like a hot dog in the car Goofy...but I did enjoy it!

My brother was a plumber--
this always puzzled me, because he had an IQ of 160--so one time I asked him how he managed working in a job where he spent so much time up to his knees in poop (had to change this word because I got asterisks..), he looked philosophical for a moment, then he told me that there are two things I should always remember about poop...
first----it always runs downhill
second----it wipes off

Never try to teach a pig to sing
It wastes your time
And annoys the pig

Every time I think of it, it applies to something or someone else

For when I quit smoking 16 years ago:

The craving will pass whether you have the cigarette or not.

This one REALLY helped me. I guess you can relate it to food cravings too.

I read a diet book years ago and found this gem:

What you eat in private shows in public.

So true!

Red, this thread idea!

An oldie but goodie:

"Being fat is hard, losing weight is hard, keeping it off is hard. Pick your hard."

And I love quotes, so I know I'll be back with more, but right now, I need coffee!

Lack of planning on your part, doesn't constitute an emergency on my part.
There are many variations of this. I have used this from one of my personalities to the other, especially 2 days before an event planned 3 months ago and nothing in my closet fits

This has been my sig in every internet forum I've ever joined (cept this one coz I can't figure out how to have a sig). I teach singing for a living, so this has always been a personal favorite. I even have a cross-stitch thing of it that used to hang in my studio.

This isn't inspirational, but I think it's cute:

Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside a dog, it is too dark to read.
-Groucho Marx

My personal favorite, when I am up to my eyeballs in work or whatever, is from Finding Nemo:

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming. Swimming, swimming, Just keep swimming.
-Dorie the Ellen DeGeneras fish with no short-term memory

I wanted to play, but couldn't think of any good ones, so I googled a few:

-Bigger snacks = bigger slacks.
-Little pickers wear bigger knickers.
-Let your head be more than a funnel to your stomach.
-You get whatever you settle for.
-Discipline is remembering what you want. (This is my favorite!)
-If we defend our habits, we have no intentions of quitting them.
-My world is expanding as my butt is shrinking.

Several I have run across...

"If it taste good...spit it out!"

"If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the solution."

"Dieting is wishful shrinking."

"You can't lose weight by talking about it. You have to keep your mouth shut."

"I have a great diet. You're allowed to eat anything you want, but you must eat it with naked fat people."

"Your body is a temple, not a drive-thru."

"My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four. Unless there are three other people"

"Fat is not a moral problem. It's an oral problem."

"A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips."

"I've decided that perhaps I am bulimic and just keep forgetting to purge."

"If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got."
