Family Reunion Tomorrow

Hey Everyone,

I will be on R1P2D4 tomorrow and we have a family reunion to attend at my parents house. My parents are having a BBQ w/ brats, hot dogs and hamburgers. Everyone is supposed to bring a dish to pass. I'm supposed to bring a dessert, which will be totally off plan for me and I will not be eating. I want to bring something I can eat though to pass around just in case there is nothing else I can eat....

So far I've come up w/:
A ring of shrimp cocktail(I would just eat the shrimp)
A salad w/ chicken mixed in and have dressing on the side
A fruit salad(strawberries, melon, etc)

any other ideas that would work and that I can pass around?

Hmmm if your supposed to bring a dessert you could do strawberry shortcake and eat the strawberries yourself. If you are going to veer from that the shrimp is a great idea. You can make your own p2 friendly cocktail sauce and no one would know the difference. If you arent strict protocol you could do kabobs and use an approved meat, marinaded and skewered with peppers or zuccini then grilled. You could also go in a different direction and do an the thai wraps in steamed cabbage. I hope one of those sounded good

Good luck

Personally, I'd go buy a dessert to take, and pack myself a nice hcg lunch box, all weighed and measured and 100% legal. And I'd resolve to myself that other than water, nothing else but what was in that lunch box was going in my mouth.

Then I'd walk around carrying a drink of water, perhaps with a lemon or lime so it looks like a cocktail, and if anyone questioned me, I'd say "me? yeah, I'm going to eat in a little while--not hungry yet."

And then I'd eat my lunch when I jolly well felt like it!

i agree with verbqueen. you're so early into the protocol that i wouldn't suggest jumping ship already. i know it's a challenge but remember the long-term goal and happy you will be with your loss the next day, if you stick to plan. i know it's not easy. i have been in p2 and have attended a dear friend's wedding/reception, gone to a conference for work, and gone out of town for a surprise graduation party. i did not like having my special little meal (or eating a handful of strawberries for the wedding) but after the big event, i was very glad that i did it. really think hard as to why you're willing to stray right now. i'm in p2d3 and think about jumping ship but i want this to be my last round. plus, i noticed that after i've strayed, i realize that food never really tasted as good as i was imagining it would (e.g., too sweet, processed, etc.). you can do this!!

anyway, whatever your choice, i hope you have an amazing time with your loved ones and that you come back to us rarin' to go! :-) Hugs!!

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestion....
I do plan on sticking to plan and that's why I want to take something that I can eat but also serve as a dish for everyone else so it doesn't look so obvious that I'm dieting....hope that makes sense?

I really want to make this work for me. I'm already down 8.8 lbs in 4 days, so I don't want to mess it up now!

I think I'm going to bring a shrimp cocktail ring, strawberries and lots of water... that's what I'll eat and share and hopefully no one notices. I'm there to spend time w/ family anyways....not eat!

Have a great weekend!!

Even when not dieting, I have brought dishes to events lots of times without actually partaking in the dish. And if it obviously looks like you're dieting... so what? You don't have to offer any explanation other than, "No thanks, I'm not that hungry."

How about a fresh fruit plate, arranged nicely? That way you can nibble on strawberries!

That's beautiful and exactly the type of thing I was thinking of....but unfortunately....well, maybe not so much for me, I don't have to worry about it now because they had to cancel it due to some issues they are having w/ they well(water). I will keep this all in mind though since I'm sure there will be other situations like this.

Thanks everyone- you're all great!!
