Shrimp vs other meats
Ok so I know we are supposed to have 3.5 oz of protein with our meals but there is no way that 3.5 oz of lean beef are anywhere near as low cal as shrimp (11 cals each). So instead of weighing them, I just have however many I can for my calorie allotment for that meal (within reason of course). The two days I ate my shrimp like this (8-12 medium shrimp), I had losses the next day. Anyone else do this with shrimp?

I haven't yet, but I was just thinking the same thing--100 gr. of shrimp is NOT going to be filling enough to get me through till morning.

I always weighed them. They are a lot less calories then beef. Which is a good thing to balance a day down. I.e. the P2 chili is 250 cal. If you have 90 calories of shrimp on lettuce for lunch it's much easier to keep the day in the 500 calorie range.

A lot of peeps, myself included, bump up the amount to about 4 oz. with shrimp since it's so low cal.

I found with a one pound bag of jumbos at Trader Joes, after I clean them and remove the tails they weigh 12 oz. Stir fry with a big bunch of asparagus and whatever seasonings, divide in four parts and your good to go.

Oh, Terri, you will LOVE it!
I've made them twice so far (I divvied up the package into 4 servings in ziplocks in the freezer). The first time I just heated them up in a pan with a tiny spray of Pam and had a salad on the side. It was so good. It seriously tastes like lobster for a lot less $. The second time I simmered them with a little chicken broth for a couple of minutes, then added in some cabbage, a little S&P, also delicious, and really satisfying. I still have 2 servings of it left, and I think I'll go back to the first way I made them -- they stand on their own really well and don't need to be mixed with the broth -- they actually taste kind of buttery. Yum.

I saute my shrimp in the Muir Glen fire roasted tomatoes with green chilis and then throw in spinach at the end....SOOOO good! (when I do this I use the tomato as a fruit and don't eat my apple that day--even though I'm only using 1/3 of the can for each serving).

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it's crazy you mention this today b/c I had shrimp last night and was savoring over what I made, but mad that it was such a small portion. And yes, my losses were great this morning and that's probably due to how low calorie the shrimp and kelp noodles meal was. Probably 130 cals for the whole meal. IF that.
I did notice this about shrimp. Very weird, but I will be making my shrimp very much more often ![]() Last edited by Millenia98; 07-16-2011 at 05:04 PM.. |

Um, just in case no one noticed, the weight of shrimp with the shell on is significantly MORE than the weight with the shell off.
I weighed out 100g of whole shrimp, then removed the shells, still raw, then reweighed. I was able to add 3 more shrimp to the scale to get it back up to 100g. I'm not eating the shell so why should it count toward my food weight? eta: plus you you can take the removed shells and simmer them in a cup of water with a pinch of salt and make shrimp broth.
