Kelp noodles

Anyone eat these? I want to go buy some today, and since they're made of kelp vegetable (and not yam flour or tofu) - they might be safer than shirataki.

Not to mention, when boiled well, I've heard they're better tasting and not fishy like shirataki. I used too much soy sauce to mask the shirataki flavor and texture, and it seems to slightly stall me ?

Just wondering if anyone likes them (or doesn’t) before I go pick them up :kicking:

The reviews say that they're not fishy tasting at all. That's what keeps me away from shiratakis. Let us know how they are! :)

They're very good, I must say.

You have to soak them in water with lots of lemon for about 45 mins and they get soft. They have absolutely *no* flavor. Honestly. People that say shirataki has no flavor have a different opinion than me. The smell in combination w/the texture is off-putting.

But these kelp noodles really help you get the noodle feel (when soft) - so that you can have a no-calorie side. I like them and will keep making them as long as I don't see a stall tomorrow.

Millenia, where do you get them? Do they soak up sauce? What is the texture like? I can't stand the shirataki but am still looking for a good non-wheat pasta sub... Thanks!

I got them at a raw food health store High Vibe Health and Healing: Raw Foods, Raw Lifestyle. They also have them in the asian markets here in downtown Manhattan.

The texture is almost like a thin and crispy version of lo-mein. NO flavor. Honestly. And no odor out of the bag (although you still wash them).

You can also soak them in sauce, yes - but I'd cook them in the sauce for 45 mins. There is no way around that. You can soak them in lemon water in the morning - and 45 mins later, when they're soft, you can take them out and have them for lunch in whatever sauce you'd like.

I don't like shirataki anymore, but I'm keeping these. They're more expensive than the shirataki though :(

I have never heard of them; when I read the title, all I could think of is Spongebob! LOL!
