Advice on possible trouble.
I have some girlfriends coming into town that want me to take them to Napa. I am going to my very best to keep to protocol while they are here, but was wondering if I get stuck...is it better to try to stick to fruit options, or meat options?
For example, if I have a choice at lunch of either lunch meat or fruit (say melon and pineapple) which do you think I should choose? I don't drink so that's not a problem (can't stand the taste of it - yes, I'm weird). ![]() Like I said, I am going to do my very best to be good, but I am panicking a bit. These are some of my skinny (never been on a diet in their lives) friends and there is NO way I am sharing what I am doing. ![]() Thanks for any input!! |

Obviously I can't give diet advice because so far, I am a complete failure on this thing (4 lbs in 10 days!). I just wanted to say you're not the only one who doesn't drink - I can't stand the taste of alcohol! Everyone invites me along so I can be the designated driver! lol

I would guess the lunchmeat. Especially if you can get something like 98% fat free turkey breast or something like that. A lot of times lunch meat is fairly lean. I think I'd stay away from the high sugar fruits like pineapple (though I do love pineapple!).

Absolutely the protein! I missed it - you are not doing any veggies?
As someone who travels for a living, I can tell you that the best way to go is the leanest meat on the menu- and ask them to prepare it without any oil. (This usually bears repeating to the server). Then, (and especially if this is not routine) - ask for EXTRA VEGGIES - also prepared with no oil. (If they have asparagus on the menu - you're set) A really easy option is a Chicken Caesar Salad minus cheese and croutons, and lemon wedges on the side. And listen, be PROUD that you are being assertive and proactive with your weight. LET YOUR WEIGHT LOSS WAR FLAG FLY!! High and proud!! Oh - and a giant water bottle. A lot of this is hand to mouth stuff. In restaurants I often order club soda with lime. (PS: I used to live in Santa Rosa) |

I'd stick to lean proteins and veggies! You don't have to tell them about hcg, but there's nothing wrong with saying you want to lose a few pounds for your trip in October. And remember... We're watching you....LoL!
Have fun sweetie! |

If we go to a regular restaurant I shouldn't have any problem. It's the delis at the wineries where we may have lunch that had me worried. Thanks for the input!!

Deli - Quarter pound of lean turkey sliced, served with extra lettuce. (can substitute any lean meat)
Diet coke, or water, or unsweetened tea Next question? :-) ![]() Oh, and the big Weight Watchers principle here would be to try to do all this withOUT being really hungry. We used to advise people that were stressed about pigging out at a party to have a baked potato or big orange before they went so they would not be operating on an empty stomach. Sort of like how it's a bad idea to shop when you are hungry. When I was doing drops - I'd have a couple extra on a day like that. |

First, can I come?
I've lived in Southern CA, Northern CA, and now in Central CA and I've never been to Napa. Wine tasting, yes...yummmmm love me some wine ![]() If we're talking deli's, surely they could muster up a salad for you. They have lettuce, they have tomatoes...they have meat. And we're talking Napa here...famous for fresh veggies and food. Maybe talk w/ your friends and compromise that you're taking them there...you get to decide on where to eat! |

Why not research and see what each restaurant / deli offers and pick the best one or two options for your eating style, then suggest them to your friends. Surely they can find something to eat at one of those places you choose.
