HCG & Fatty Liver - ???
I am sorry to suddenly burst onto this thread... and I don't want to be an alarmist... but I have a serious question -
Has anyone been diagnosed with fatty liver and is doing hcg and low cal? I recently had blood work done and my liver enzymes were elevated... doctor wants me to go in for additional blood work and ultrasound... (I do think I drink too much )Any info please... I'm freakin' out! |

to you for going through something scary right now. Are you asking if hcg causes fatty liver? I'm not aware of any links to hcg, but I do know that fatty liver is linked with alcohol, but I think that the doctors can tell the difference between alcohol and non-alcohol fatty liver, right? I think the non-alcohol type is often linked to obesity and/or diabetes. Are you diabetic? I hope that they find out the cause and get you on the road to recovery quickly! Keep us posted. |

This is just a guess on my part, but......If anything, I would think that hcg would help with fatty liver, due to the very low calories and the nearly zero fat diet -- that is pretty similar to some plans that are prescribed to help get rid of fat in the liver.
Elevated liver enzymes can be caused by a number of things, so I'd suggest waiting for your test results before getting too panicked.... and I am really hoping it is nothing serious. And if you can cut back on drinking, or stop entirely, your body will love you for it! Hugs and wishes for an easy solution to this for you!

I have had slightly elevated liver enzymes a few times before, I also freaked and thought it might be from the med. I do take some medicine that can cause it and they think that is what it is. I recently had my checked and it was fine.

thanks so much for the responses...
I am stopping all drinking! I have been on hcg for 22 vlcd days lost almost 17 pounds... mistakenly I forgot to inject yesterday morning and then got the call from the physicians office regarding the elevated liver enzymes...I started searching info on that and there were a few articles listing that with fatty liver disease (that is what the nurse said they were going to be testing for, blood and ultrasound) you should only lose 1 -2 lbs per week because the body wants to hold onto fat if lost too quickly... (they put the hcg diet in this category) - yesterday was no hcg/vlcd and today will be as well... I don't think/know if this doctor is someone I could 'talk to' about using hcg - (didn't tell...) thanks again - ![]()

Hi WorkingMom!
I was diagnosed with fatty liver disease some 6-7 years ago, but that was by ultrasound and I have never had any abnormal liver tests until the HCG diet. I had elevated liver enzymes while on rx injection HCG. After I completed my round and moved on to P3/P4, my enzymes became normal. I suspect it has something to do with our bodies metabolizing the fat. My liver enzymes are still normal. I have more blood work coming up in the next few weeks, and I expect it to be normal then, too. None of my doctors know that I have used the HCG diet to lose weight.

I had an ultrasound earlier this year and was told I have fatty liver. I was told to lose weight or it could become something serious down the line. I wasn't told that it was serious NOW. Now that I think about it, I didn't get a whole lot of info from my doc about it at all. I don't drink at all, so mine is obesity related I assume.

I have a fatty liver as well, it's very common. They did a biopsy which hurt something fierce, and then said lose weight and it will go away. My doctor was alarmed at my bloodwork and thats what got the ball rolling initially. I'm sure that it was the hcg that triggered abnormal fat in my blood, but the doctor dismissed my explanation and that was that. It all makes sense to me regarding hcg I mean the liver does filter fat and with fat being released from the bloodstream in gets filtered thru the liver...
On a good note the doc said to switch to the "caveman diet" which is exactly what we would all be on in P4 so we are all on the right track. Protein veggies fruit nuts etc..Don't let it scare you but do get it checked just to be safe. Fatty liver is not associated with drinking btw.

I am also getting an ultrasound to determine if I have fatty liver. My doc was concerned when he learned that my brother passed away at 54 after a two year battle with liver disease. My brother was overweight but overweight for only a few years.
The doctor said that fatty liver can run in families and that it's because of a gene that does not process fats. That's what I remember about the explanation. Hope all goes well with you. When the doctor wanted the ultrasound, I was upset also. I'll keep you posted. |

Thanks
Since yesterday was my 22nd vlcd and 24th injection day - 17lbs down I decided to go onto P3 (must read up) Today will be my second vlcd day w/o an injection...
I picked up my tests (and with honesty here) the alt & ast were HIGH! There were two other test areas that also tested high mcv & mch... I investigated and apparently those two (mcv/mch) test high when food is substituted for alcohol.... (and that would have to be a yes during the holiday weekend of the 4th) - So I do think the combo (low cal/hcg/high alcohol and the quick weight loss) got me the readings - and that they are accurate... I originally made an appt. to get the blood work/ultrasound next Tuesday - but I am going to reschedule that until the end of the month (the doctor specified end of month)- and will try and keep the weight off. I am going to try and actually lose... I know that is a no-no on P3 but I just was really so focused on getting there until I received the phone call yesterday - depending on how the results are (which I would imagine I will know by first week of August) I do not plan on disclosing the hcg to this doctor...(not a good bedside manner AT ALL!) If they want to do a biopsy or refer to a specialist...then I'll fess up to the specialist... If all good I will be going back on.... I'm totally off the alcohol... (no excuses... but I've had a very tough year, my Mom passed May 29th and I definitely was escaping into the bottle...). I'll keep you all posted and please let me know if you or your doctors have suggested anything differently... or how things work out...milk thistle? Thanks so much! ![]() |

[QUOTE=
I'll keep you all posted and please let me know if you or your doctors have suggested anything differently... or how things work out...milk thistle? Thanks so much! [/QUOTE]![]() I can understand how you feel--I started my weightloss journey after I lost my brother (heatstroke), my aunt and uncle (type II diabetes) and nephew (lost on the Deepwater Horizon) within the span of a year. It was too much death, so I had to do something LIFE AFFIRMING, ya know? as for the fatty liver worries--by all means, cut out the alcohol--it's not healthy for too many reasons I'm also a firm believer in milk thistle---it's suppose to help detox your liver and enable it to better metabolize fat--it's also pretty cheap and easy to find I don't know about the hcg itself, but the lower fat, lower carb diet should be a relief to your liver also, if you do it right, the Simeons protocol diet is very paleo--if you stick to chicken and fish-it's right in sync with the liver-cleanse diet as well especially if you try to eat your veggies raw I don't think the little breadsticks, if you eat them, should be much of an issue, but if they are--eat celery instead good luck, and let us know what else you find our ![]()

Fatty liver is an epidemic in this country. Just losing weight will usually help it. Even being what they call "overweight" can lead to fatty liver. Just losing weight by changing to a healthy diet is usually enough to correct the situation. If your liver was "fatty" from alcohol, that is a totally different thing and doctors can tell by your blood work if that's it. I think if your doctor suspected alcohol abuse he'd have hinted at that
By all means, stop drinking as that will definitely give your liver a break. Meds are a big time liver stressor (even Tylenol). Milk thistle works to bind to certain factors in the liver which my swiss cheese brain can't remember what they were exactly But, it helps. Drs. Eades have a chapter about it in "The Cure for the Middle Aged Middle". Which is also a diet that will fix up that fatty liver in about two weeks. It's a good detox and they mentioned some other supplements that help. Doing the shakes gets expensive though and for me money is a huge issue. I have read a lot of "horrible" wives tales about HCG; this was not one of them. The only one that I read that had any credibility was that if you took it in huge doses, like they use for fertility, that you could have some problems. Huge doses of anything usually leads to a problem, even good things. You're on the road to good health by trying to get your weight under control and to control your alcohol intake. Be kind to your body, it does wonderful things for you!

Try a supplement for Liver support, if you go to a vitamin shop and ask for a lipotropic (fat burner) they typically go hand in hand. As the supplement is made more for liver support and actually dosen't "burn fat". The liver is what metabolizes your fat. If it's not functioning properly it will slow down weight loss.
