0 calorie butter sprays

I have been searching, but can't find anything about using the 0 calorie butter sprays such as I can't believe it's not butter spray. They have 0 calories, 0 carbs, 0 sodium--as near as I can figure it is wet air with taste on it.
Is anyone using them? It would really be great to spray my veggies with it.

Thanks,

Chris

No advice I can offer, but I seriously just SOL'd (snorted out loud) at work over "wet air with taste on it."

Well, this is certainly not gospel when you hear the source. I remember being at a Pampered Chef party years ago and they were selling a pump and spray thing for oil.
The sales person said that it's the same as the store bought canned sprays like PAM. The only reason they can say 0 is that a "serving size" is like a part of a second. Essentially - it's just a very small dab of oil. My guess is you could get the same effect from wiping regular veggie oil on a pan with a paper towel. I'm not sure how much fat/cals to attribute to it.

I'll let someone more experienced andwer about whether it's "allowed" or not.

It seems like it should be--as long as it's 0 calories (and carb.) I used it Low Carbing to save calories and it does taste good.
Hope someone knows.

Chris

Are you talking about using it on P2? I would not, could not use any Pam. I could not, would not ....oh...nevermind.

On P3? Well then I want the real stuff!

I mean - what are the ingredients? Oil, right?

It depends on what plan you are following. The Omaha Weight Loss plan (OWL) allows Pam and "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray, and I THINK also powders like Molly McButter. Simmeons does not. HTH.

What Doxie Said.

Essentially they are just oils. As opposed to something like Walden Farms dressing with is mostly water and flavor, non oil based, these oil sprays are still oil.

I used the butter spray during last round doing Omaha, but it's very iffy the spray, it's not a nice spray but more of a squirt. So if you don't aim well, you may have to squirt several times.

What do you think you might use it on? I found I didn't really need it for most cooking and only used it for snacks like I'd spray the Wasa Light Cracker then sprinkle cinnamon and splenda for a treat. but other than that I was not very useful to me for cooking. I used McCormick imitation butter flavor extract for any cooking recipes. That is truly zero cal cause it's not really anything except flavor in water/alcohol base.

Thanks, I will look for the McCormack butter flavor. I'm glad I fould out, and you are all right--it is olive oil based. Durn!:(

I use "ICBINB" spray sometimes. I followed OWL hcg plan for R1 and then R2 I kind of went a little more out of the box. Anyway, when I use the butter spray, I count it as either 10 or 20 calories on ******, depending on how much I use. No biggee.

metqa 07-14-2011 09:25 PM

cheryl, what did you use them on?

LaraSuzz 07-15-2011 08:08 AM

Forgive me low carb friends for I have sinned!!

:aprayer:I used Pam on all my roasted meat, the whole time I was aon my last round and did fine. I didnt go overboard, used it sparingly.

Balance101 07-15-2011 08:09 AM

I use Pam for cooking. :dunno:

metqa 07-15-2011 08:40 AM

I understand the use of Pam, it's easy to just spray a little and it makes cooking so much easier to not stick. I actually have regular and butter flavored pam spray also. I've had to use it when sauteeing vegetables to keep them from burning and sticking.

But I'm curious about what one would use the Butter spray on. That product comes in a pump bottle, that's not necessarily marketed for heat cooking. I think the picture on the package has an illustration of an ear of corn...

amylou 07-15-2011 08:47 AM

I've used the butter spray a few times on cooked veggies...grilled asparagus mostly. Otherwise I haven't needed it.

BigBravesGirl 07-15-2011 09:13 AM

If you want to add butter flavor to your foods, use McCormick, Watkins or Wilton butter flavoring / extract. I know you can find the McCormick in regular grocery stores. (Might be able to find a store brand, too.) I order Watkins online. You can find Wilton in WalMart, Hobby Lobby or Michael's with the cake decorating supplies.

HTH

I've always used the McCormick imitation butter flavor extract until last round when I tried the butter spray.

I just thought of something, The McC butter extract is difficult to pour just a little bit from the bottle. and the butter spray gave me the idea , maybe I could take the whole bottle of butter extract and add it to a spray bottle with distilled water to make my own butter flavor spray. I think it would spray better than the oil spray, which sorta spurts instead of spraying. If I try this I'll let you know how it works out.

TerriMM 07-15-2011 02:57 PM

I use olive oil (garlic and plain) in a contraption called "misto". Used it very sparingly on P2 with no problem. If it beaded up, I whipped out the excess with a paper towel. On P3 I use it more liberally in the pan and on my roasted meat. Just olive oil, no chemicals.

Missouri_Librarian 07-15-2011 05:09 PM

I also on the omaha plan used the spray butter on my cooked veggies such as my mashed cauliflower, green beans and broc,,,

I also sprayed it on my 100 cal bag of popcorn i got to have as a snack...loved it

metqa 07-15-2011 06:34 PM

I did that with the popcorn a couple of times. It was neat. but I got out of doing it as I started taking my snack along on road trips. much cleaner without the oil.

Also Orville Brand Kettle corn flavor is a neat treat cause it has a touch of splenda and a touch of salt. a very clean taste. I find the butter popcorn sometimes makes me want butter in general, but I'll have to get over that as all I have left are butter flavors.

Missouri_Librarian 07-15-2011 06:43 PM

Yeah, I saw on another thread about you loving the kettle corn flavor and i started getting it also, ty for that hint, I loved it also...now i am on P3, so no more popcorn..:0(
