Well, we are so glad that you aren't debilitated with Lyme anymore! We like you much better this way! I never heard of the leak you mentioned from the 40's to the 70's. I wouldn't be surprised, though. Stuff is always happening on the QT. (Or is that "the down low"?)

WOE: one day at a time!! LC!
Start Date: July 14, 2003 - every day!!
Hi Roguers!! I'm back for my 4th (and hopefully final) P2 round!! I've had a great time this summer which has involved way too much indulging. I'm up a LOT and ready to re-lose this gain!!! I knew I'd be doing another round, so my last trip I didn't reign it in at all and loaded well. I even had pizza yesterday for the first time in months and my tummy was not happy!! I'm actually releived to be on P2 today!!

My understanding is that during P3 we are still avoiding carbs, so how do I go about reducing carb sensitivity? Does that happen in P4?

I'm only on VLCD5, so I have time to figure this out, but I am curious.
I too was stuck in the mid 170's on Atkins and was overall happy there. I always wished to get down to a size 8 and smaller weight and didn't think I ever could. I am happy to say that hcg worked well for me and if I followed the maintenance better, and didn't have back to back to back celebrations, indulgences and trips this summer suspect I could have maintained it nicely.
I did find I could tolerate more carbs in P4 than I had previously enjoyed and was really encouraged by that.

As for carbs and thyroid -- I did some reading on that last night. Apparently low carb does decrease T3 (or, more accurately, conversion of T4 to T3) , but there is a lot of disagreement as to whether this actually decreases metabolism or not.

Ketosis seems to somehow counter balance the down regulation, according to some sources.

There is a fair amount of anecdotal evidence that some hypothyroid people seem to do better on low carb, however... they can lose weight for the first time, etc. I suspect it has to do with leptin and cortisol and other hormones, and not just thyroid.

For those who are stalling out on low carb, it seems a connection that is worth following up on....
The Thyroid info is interesting. There is so little true research on it, a lot of conjecture (imho). I have low thyroid and it's not treated (we tried, failed and I gave up!) and I was only able to lose weight on LC. Nothing else worked for me. Hcg has worked too, but low fat, WW, etc were failures for me. Many here on LCF are hypo and have lost weight on LC. So, even if the conversion suffers, something seems to work.

I agree w. Paula - all diets fail eventually. Our bodies are smart and figure out what we're trying to do . I like the calorie cycling idea and plan to implement it in P4 this time around. I'd like to increase my weight training and know I won't be able to until P3/P4. I'm gonna' keep doing light cardio and the weights I'm currently doing until then.

one and all!! I'm cooking up a storm today so I'm set for the week. Mildly hungry, but not too bad. Drinking a coke zero right now, which I really need to stop. I'm gonna' try for a closer to protocol round since the last 2 weren't as successful. Wishing you all great success!!

Uggg. Tom is here and I feel nasty

It's a good thing I ran 13 miles yesterday and over 6 today because I've eaten a LOT. I'm thinking of doing a day or 2 of water fasting to get some control back and drop some of this bloat. I've done it before, it isn't pleasant but it helps. I'm going to do some reading, journaling, and thinking and I'll decide in the morning

This week my runs are going to be toned down a lot and I may even take a bunch of days off as I will officially start training for the marathon a week from Tuesday. I did find out yesterday that our gym has a toddler room for children 2+. DS is 3 months shy but plays well alone and with other kids and the room is attached to the weight room so I can watch him. I'll be starting back Wednesday
