Hello. I need some advice please
Hi,
I've learned a lot from reading the posts here. Thanks to all of you for your wisdom and humor. I just started an HCG protocol. I'm doing well with it and experiencing little/no hunger. I'm on day 12 and am down 10 lbs. I am going on a week's trip out of town week after next. We are staying in an apartment for most of the week in a place where we will enjoy scenery and nice walks, and I will have no trouble cooking for myself while I'm in that place. I have a plan for the outbound travel day (we're driving) so I don't anticipate any deviation that day. The way home involves two days of travel and no kitchen. I need some ideas. The doctor who is supervising my program said that the EAS Myoplex low carb shakes would probably be ok and I'm not averse to trying that (at 150 calories, they can't hurt *that* much). But I just thought I'd ask you more experienced folks if there is an obvious easy answer I'm missing. I am seriously committed to this thing. My husband is extremely supportive and will help me accomplish my goal of staying on plan during our short break. I don't need food to enjoy the time away from my normal (ridiculous) routine. thanks for any suggestions you can offer, and very nice to 'meet' y'all! You're doing great, Diva! 10 lbs. in 12 days is awesome!
I don't have a lot of suggestions for you, but I'm sure others will. My only real idea is, can you bring a little cooler? Since you'll be able to cook in your little kitchen, can you just cook up a couple of extra servings of chicken and shrimp and put those in the cooler for your way home? Actually, if you buy frozen pre-cooked shrimp, you can just toss those into the cooler and as they thaw out you can eat them (they could be your "ice" for the cooler even). Then you can just toss in some fruit and veggies and be 100% on plan. I don't know if that will work for you or not, but I think that's what I'd do. Keep up the great work!

We are planning on having the coolers with us, so yes! I didn't think about frozen shrimp. What a good idea. Thanks Zbunny. And thanks for the welcome

![]() Welcome Diva! What are the constraints of your doctor's meal allowances? That would give us some guide lines for ideas. For instance a friend of mine who allowed herself 100 calories of grain a day did a successful away day with a whole grain pita with lean meat and veggies. Add a fruit and you're dialed. On Simeon's protocol you could do meat rolls with thinly sliced meat rolled around cucumber sticks. Diced apple makes a great "munchie" snack. Dr. Simeon's also allows eggs and cottage cheese on occasion. Boiled eggs make great take alongs as well as cottage cheese (you can usually find 1/2 cup four packs in the grocery. Also if you clean chop and prepackage fresh veggies they'll be easy to grab & go. Hope that helps! Get up the great work, you're doing terrific ![]()

Terri, thanks so much! My doc's deal includes no grain at all. Since I've had some GI troubles with gluten over the years, I'm going to stick with that for the time being, but the meat roll/cucumber stick deal is a GREAT idea. I don't anticipate having any difficulties toting around my fruits and vegetables since we're driving, and maybe that trip would be the perfect opportunity to treat myself to the eggs. They aren't on my dr's plan, but I'm fine with a slight deviation as long as the nutritional values end up about the same. I do love eggs, so that might really make it seem like a vacation!
I also think I might have just one of those Myoplex shakes, since chocolate is the only "food group" I have consciously missed since I started the diet. I appreciate the welcome and the tips! |
