Had my doc visit today!
I just got back from my doctor's office. I might be wrong, but I think he is still working on picking his jaw up off the floor.
![]() Aside from his complete and utter amazement at my weight loss (I logged in at exactly 55 lbs less than I did on 4/4/11), we went over my blood work and other stuff. My blood pressure (which has been a tad high for about 5 years) was completely normal. He could not stop raving about my A1C and get this - HE TOLD ME I COULD STOP TAKING MY DIABETES MEDS COMPLETELY! ![]() Everything else was great... until we got to my cholesterol. Now, given that my total cholesterol was 285 on 4/4, it did not increase a great deal. It was 317. Still, a huge number is a huge number and all the other things - LDL, HDL, triglycerides, were all worse than back in April. I explained to him how it was explained in Simeon's protocol that elevated cholesterol was normal while doing this diet but he didn't want to hear it. When I told him I had been eating shrimp he wrote on my papers DO NOT EAT SHRIMP. ![]() He told me that the conference he had attended on hcg only raised one negative aspect - the obtaining of contaminated hcg from overseas. Other than that, he said that all the doctors who attended the conference were in agreement that there was, and I quote, "NO DISPUTING THAT HCG WORKS!" We discussed maintenance, how I've learned that my BMR is low and how that will translate into my new woe moving forward. My next visit is in 3 months to re-test my cholesterol and glucose. He "expects" me to be at the same weight or lower. ![]() I am really happy. I mean, on a much deeper level than just the weight loss. Knowing that I am improving my health means SO much to me, and knowing that the way I am losing the weight is not having a negative impact - but rather the exact opposite, except for those pesky shrimp - really means a lot to me.

Lilac - I am SOOOOO happy for you! I can't even really say how much. Uber congrats! (And I bet you dollars to...er...low-carb donuts?...that your cholesterol will be totally normal when you next have blood tests. I would not worry one iota about eating shrimp if you enjoy it.)

That's amazing! Fabulous news -- this is what it's all about (well, that AND fitting into those smaller pants . . . ) but getting off meds is like getting a gold medal. Sorry about the cholesterol, but give it some time -- as you lose weight, I bet it'll come down! And, if you take blood during P3 next time, maybe you'll get a better reading.
(You may have seen my other post this morning -- I had stellar bloodwork, including a great cholesterol reading, from bloodwork taken during P2. I got to stop taking my Lipitor! We can have a med-flushing party together! "Medications? We don't need no steenkin' medications!")

CONGRATS, Lilac! Woohoo!
Hopefully your cholesterol numbers will look much better next time, but for now, I'm thrilled for you to go off your meds. Just LOOK at what you're doing for yourself! YOU are doing this. Not meds, not docs, just lil' Lilac ![]() |

I probably ate over 5 lbs of shrimp in the month of June. I KNOW it is high in cholesterol, but just couldn't stomach chicken breast any more and was trying to keep my fat down because I was eating too much ground beef. Doc told me that just like there are certain triggers for diabetes (like the mango margarita that I had on my 1st day of loading that spiked my glucose to an all time high of 318), shrimp is a notorious trigger for people with high cholesterol. It's just so funny to see that he actually had it down on my papers I got sent home with. NO MORE SHRIMP IN YOUR DIET. Makes me chuckle. I feel like a scolded school kid. ![]() |

Thanks everyone.
It's kinda hard to describe how my doc's approval is something I've always wanted and have never gotten until yesterday. He's this skinny, young thing and sometimes it's been, well, embarrassing to deal with weight and health issues because I felt like I would disappoint him every visit. He's a GREAT doc because he's very involved and wants you to be healthy but every visit it seemed like I would leave with a long list of things to improve on. NOT THIS TIME! Just NO MORE SHRIMP IN MY DIET, lol. |
