QUESTION: Is it the 500 low calories or the drops?

I am really freaking out after losing 9lbs in four days. I have lost 2.6lbs the first two days and on yesterday I lost 2.8lbs in one day. This is truly unheard of for me. I am not a fan of pills or drops, but this seems to really be working for me. I have never been on a diet that you only eat 500 calories per day. So am I getting these amazing results from the low calories or from the drops? Can anyone give me some insight? Also, I don't want to get bored, can you please share with me a typical breakfast, lunch and dinner meal. THANK U!!!!

Hi sails,

Did you read the book? (Pounds and Inches? All about the HCG diet?) It's all in the book!!! That rapid rate of loss will not last. You'll slow down to one pound a day, or half pound a day. Also, if you read the P2 sticky threads - and recipes, it's all in there!!

Glad to have you here!

It's not just the 500 calories--take it from someone with blood sugar issues. 500 calories by itself would (and HAS) made me crazy. On hcg I am not hungry and don't have any low blood sugar issues. The minute I am off the drops, I start getting blood sugar issues if I don't eat.

As far as boredom goes, maybe these will help...

Salad dressings:

Start with...
2T broth (beef, chicken or veggie)
2T apple cider or red wine vinegar
1/4t salt
1/4t pepper

For Italian add...
1t Italian seasoning
1/4t garlic powder
1/4t onion powder

For honey mustard add...
1T mustard (yellow or brown but check ingredients for sugar)
5 drops plain stevia or 1/2 packet Splenda or Sweet 'n Low

For a creamier dressing use...
2T Walden Farms Caesar, Ranch or Blue Cheese dressing in place of one T of broth and one T vinegar

For a different taste use...
2T orange juice, lemon juice or lime juice in place of the vinegar

Switch up spices. I like...
1t curry or
1t shallot pepper or
1t dill or
1t sage
1t cumin

"Skillet" meals
(if you are NOT eating the grissini/melba, increase your evening veggie portion to 200g/7oz)

Broth 1/4-1/2c, depending on how saucy you like it
Chicken
Beef
Veggie

Protein 100g/3.5oz raw
chicken breast
lean ground beef
shrimp
crab meat
langostino tails

Veggie 100g/3.5oz raw
Belgian endive
Cabbage
Bok choy
Celery
Chinese cabbage

Spices
Onion powder
Garlic powder
Salt
Pepper

plus...
Italian - 1T Italian seasoning (works best with chicken or beef plus endive or cabbage)
Mexican - 1T chili powder, 1t cumin, couple of dashes tobasco or tapatio (works best with chicken or beef plus cabbage or endive)
Asian - 1T soy sauce or Braggs liquid aminos (works with all)
Lemon pepper - 1t lemon pepper, 1T fresh lemon juice (work best with chicken or seafood plus any veggie)

Add broth to skillet. Add veggie and spices and cook to just before desired doneness. Add raw protein and cook until done (the protein cooks so fast that it's best to add it at the end). Optional: sprinkle with Guar or Xanthan gum (available at most healthfood stores) in a salt shaker for a thicker sauce--a little goes a VERY long way so sprinkle with caution! **DO NOT OVERDO AS IT IS A STARCH AND COULD STALL YOU.

Panfried White Roughy or Swai

Sprinkle a filet of Swai (white roughy--available at Ralph's and TJ's), cod, or orange roughy with salt and pepper. Heat skillet until hot. Add fish. Cook on one side for 3 mins. Flip and cook until fish flakes easily--about 2 more minutes. Serve with salad or stirfried veggies.

500 calories alone would result in substantial loss of weight from your muscle, other tissues, and organs -- it's the protective work of HCG that allows your body to pull it from fat (and keeps you from feeling completely crummy along the way!)

It is most certainly NOT the 500 measly calories. It IS the hcg. I has to be. That is what it is supposed to do. I hear it all the time. I can lose on 500 calories, it has to be the low calories. But it isn't. I have heard from almost everyone that they can do 500 calories and even GAIN weight. So it IS the hcg. Yeah for hcg

the HCG the is produced by the placenta in pregnant women triggers the thyroid and other organs involved in homeostasis.

Some people who are hypothyroid have reported that they did not suffer from symptoms of Hypo while on HCG. The purpose of HCG is to tell the body to rev up it's use of food and fat as energy, to give MORE energy, because it's important that the fetus never be without a constant supply of nutrients for growth. That's why in some areas of poverty, starving women can give birth to "healthy" babies despite lack of adequate food. The body is using up it's stores of energy regardless of lack of food intake.

If you have adequate food, then you can gain more than the baby weight even though the baby is using some of it. That is what women typically experience.

a non pregnant person using HCG could also gain weight on a standard diet because the body is both using energy and storing extra energy at the same time.

by lowering the calories, it's effectively creating a similar situation as having to feed another entity. The body will pull its resources to make up the deficit and keep you running. It (believes it) has no option to slow down the metabolism ( for the sake of the imaginary baby) and so the thyroid doesn't slow the metabolism despite the low calories. Therefore you have the opportunity to "use up" all the reserves without the consequences of low calorie starvation.

Yay.
