To rogue or not to rogue...that is the question
I have done the diet twice. The first time was strictly P & I protocol, and I lost 13 lbs, in 21 days. As is typical for me, I let life get in the way and I gained it all back. 2nd time I did P & I but also used Walden Farms dressings and allowed myself 1 to 2 diet Dr. Peppers per day; lost the same amount of weight. Gained it back and then some. I have made several false attempts since then, always using drops or pellets, let hunger (always hungry) and emotions take over and quitting after a day or two. After a long illness, I lost my dad in March and I finally have my mom settled into a new place and most of all that crazy insurance/pension/social security paperwork (so stressful!) behind me and I'm ready to get serious. This time I am going to do the injections - not because I necessarily think they may be better than homeopathic but the fact that the cost is so much more may serve as motivation for me. I have read with great interest all the threads, both strict and rogue, and need help trying to decide which way to go. I am a type 2 diabetic, so the thought of going rogue by skipping grains and fruit and adding extra protein in very appealing to me, as is eating more beef or eggs because I won't eat seafood of any kind. On the other hand, what if I do that and don't lose? Then I am out all the money I paid for the injections. UGH...thoughts, please? PS - I should add that both times I did the stricter protocol I felt horrible - tired, weak, upper back pain...always went away after stopping the diet so it must be related somehow.

First off, so sorry for your recent loss.
![]() Second, I am doing the program for the first time and have tried very hard to stick to protocol. I wanted to do that at least for the first round. I would think if I were to attempt a rogue round at some point, I would add one rougish thing at a time for a few days and see how it, on its own affects my progress. If you add a bunch of things and you don't have success, you may not know what is the cause. Best wishes! |

Doxielove- So sorry about your dad. I can totally relate to your parent issues. My mom is in advanced stage alzheimers and we lost dad 3 years ago. I also can relate to how it all impacts your own woe committments and dieting, etc. I let myself gain back 20 lbs this last year whilst going through similar stuff. Grrrr.
Anyway, I am VERY curious as to the input you receive here in answer to your question. I have a lot of issues with the whole concept of sticking to a 50+ year old diet protocol that seems, to me, to have some odd inconsistancies and useless rules. Again, just my opinion, and possibly my own issue. I have no problem sticking to the 500 cal a day, but the no mixing of veggies and levels of carbs do concern me a bit. I would way rather have more veggies than fruit or breadsticks. For example, I wonder what the avg weight loss per day is for OWL folks vs. strict protocol folks? Or those who do it more low carb, but still at 500 cal?? Please chime in rogue folks and let us know what you do, and more importantly, how it has worked (or not worked?) for you. Thanks so much! |

I am on my second round and I went rogue from the start. Rogue for me means measured out cream in my coffee and a bit more protein. I also never adjusted my make up or lotions, just kept using my regular stuff. I have eaten a ton of P2 chili with beef, cabbage and Rotel. I must have hit my tolerance, 'cos I don't want it anymore!

I am sorry for your loss.
![]() I do not see where you did P3 and P4 on your other rounds. Is that why you gained all the weight back? |

I did do P3 but obviously not very well! lol. I went up and down on P3 and finally just threw in the towel. Big mistake. With my diabetes and yo-yo diet history, I will have to always be on a P3 type WOE when/if I ever get to goal.

I'm sorry about your dad, doxie.
Mine passed away last October and I'll tell ya, the time of his illness (emphysema) really threw me into a tailspin as far as smart food choices. I understand that stressful time.Lots of people do great with OWL, which seems pretty rogue compared to the original plan. It allows for so much more flexibility! |
